"Hello, Brother Bao, I'm Xiao Chen, Chen Chaoyue. We had dinner together the day before yesterday," Chen Chaoyue said in a low voice.
"I have some impression of you, Xiao Chen. What’s the matter?" Brother Bao's tone was somewhat impatient.
"Well, I’ve run into some trouble and I’d like to borrow some brothers from you," Chen Chaoyue replied.
"Heh, I’m afraid I can’t help you with that. I’ve washed my hands of this business for years now; I don’t want to get involved in any fighting or killing," Brother Bao said lightly.
Chen Chaoyue was taken aback. He thought Brother Bao was afraid of getting into trouble or lacked sufficient benefits, so he quickly explained, "Brother Bao, the other party is just a loser from my middle school days. Today is our class reunion, and he actually stole my girlfriend and even crashed my sports car. Of course, if you call your brothers over, I won’t let them go without compensation."
"Xiao Chen, you can’t handle a loser? Really?" Brother Bao’s tone was clearly mocking. He guessed Chen Chaoyue's intentions—he just wanted to leverage Brother Bao's reputation to show off.
A few years ago, he would have readily agreed, but now he wanted to be a good person. He couldn’t dare to bully someone like that; if that big boss found out, he would probably be in deep trouble.
"He really is a loser; I’ve never heard of him before. But he’s quite bold—riding an electric bike as if he were driving a luxury car, acting all high and mighty," Chen Chaoyue scoffed.
Hearing Chen Chaoyue's remarks stirred something in Brother Bao, and an ominous premonition rose in his heart.
"What's that guy's name?" Brother Bao asked cautiously. It was rare to find someone so arrogant; could it really be him?
"His name is Jiang Chen," Chen Chaoyue casually replied.
"What did you say?" Brother Bao suddenly jumped up from his chair, exclaiming in shock.
"I said Jiang Chen! Brother Bao, do you know him?" Chen Chaoyue was startled.
"Are you looking for death? You dared to clash with Mr. Jiang? You must not want to live anymore! How many lives do you think you have? Damn it, don’t say you’re related to me," Brother Bao scolded furiously.
Chen Chaoyue was left dumbfounded by the scolding, but fortunately, before Brother Bao hung up the phone, he came back to his senses.
"Brother Bao, who exactly is he?"
"Someone you can’t afford to mess with, Xiao Chen. Considering that you're somewhat sensible, let me give you a piece of advice: it’s lucky for you to be alive right now. Not just you—even Third Master Lu wouldn’t be able to handle Mr. Jiang without consequences. Alright, that’s all I have to say; you can figure it out yourself." With that, Brother Bao hung up the phone and began contemplating whether he should prepare some gifts to visit Jiang Chen since he had returned home for the New Year.
Listening to the busy tone on the phone, Chen Chaoyue turned pale as if all blood had drained from his face.
Not even Third Master Lu could be provoked? That was terrifying! Third Master Lu, Lu Zhengjian, was the Underground Boss of Qingcheng City. Lu Zhengjian knew about Jiang Chen because Hu Sanxiong had told him. After all, they were both cut from the same cloth. When Hu Sanxiong learned that Jiang Chen was from Qingcheng County, he once mentioned Jiang Chen's affairs in Songnan to Lu Zhengjian and later spoke about matters in the Southwest.
Upon hearing about such a formidable person, Lu Zhengjian committed Jiang Chen's name to memory and warned his subordinates. Considering this was Jiang Chen's hometown and that he would eventually return there, Lu Zhengjian instructed his men to keep a low profile and do some good deeds when necessary. Otherwise, attracting Jiang Chen's attention would lead to dire consequences.
