The damned weather changed in an instant, as if the dark clouds were pressing down on her, heavy and suffocating. He Shuning could no longer contain her frustration; she had thought she was accustomed to it, that she could remain as calm as a statue, impervious to any sadness or embarrassment. 0

But now, it felt as if something was lodged in her throat, making it difficult even to swallow. 0

"Sister Ning, it's raining. We should head back. I've already brought the car around. Let's get in quickly; it looks like it's going to pour," Mimi said, observing the figure standing in the yard. He Shuning wore a loose, off-shoulder sweater, a large white knit that draped over her slender frame, with a fitted white camisole underneath. 0

The strong wind twisted the sweater out of shape, and she seemed so fragile that it felt like she might be swept away at any moment. 0

Mimi instinctively sensed her low mood and fidgeted with her fingers, unsure how to comfort her. She simply stood behind her. 0

"Sister Ning, let's hurry back; the rain is getting heavier." 0

It seemed only the figure ahead could hear her voice. He Shuning didn’t look up and walked straight towards the car. 0

"I need to go somewhere first; you head back." 0

"Sister Ning, where are you going? I'll come with you," Mimi said, watching as He Shuning hurried towards the vehicle. 0

He Shuning didn’t respond; she feared that if she spoke again, her voice would break into tears. 0

Mimi caught up with her just as she started the engine. The roar of the car was jarring as it merged into traffic. 0

A sense of panic washed over Mimi; her heart raced uncontrollably. She dashed to the roadside and waved her arms frantically. Thankfully, this area wasn't too remote. When a taxi arrived, it hadn't even come to a complete stop before she eagerly flung open the door, speaking so quickly that it was like pouring out beans—she wasn’t even sure if the driver understood her. 0

"Driver, please catch up to that red 8T7J car, hurry!" She clutched the back of the passenger seat with both hands, straining to lean forward and catch a glimpse, but all she could see was the blurred shadow of the vehicle ahead. At that moment, she felt like an ant on a hot pan, her heart racing in a way that only heightened her anxiety. 0

"That red car is going too fast; we might not be able to catch up," the driver seemed to be affected by her urgency, pressing down harder on the accelerator. 0

"You’d better contact your friend. Driving like this in such rain is too dangerous." 0

"I can't reach her, so please, I need your help." The driver heard the tremor in her voice, laced with an uncontrollable sob, and fell silent. He pressed the gas pedal harder and gripped the steering wheel tightly. 0

The blurred scenery outside rushed past as the roar of the engine filled her ears. It felt as if she were trapped in a sealed black box; the cacophony was deafening, and everything around her was indistinct. Her breath came in quick gasps, making her feel suffocated. She thought she might go insane. 0

He Shuning didn’t know where they were headed; all she wanted was to escape, as far away as possible. In that moment, all her composure crumbled. 0

The car drove aimlessly, leaving behind the bustling city streets and turning onto quiet, narrow country roads. Without the blaring horns of other vehicles, the sound of rain became even more pronounced. 0
