His words sounded as official as a government statement. His gaze did not particularly focus on anyone, yet it felt as if he were staring directly at you. In a fluster, you quickly averted your eyes, only to find yourself looking back at him in the next moment, and you shyly lowered your head again.
It felt as though a warning bell had rung in your heart, leaving you in a daze.
Fortunately, you could still take some solace in the fact that it was not you who had to give a report; it was mostly the agents speaking on behalf of their clients. There were whispers behind the scenes that no matter how experienced or silver-tongued an agent might be, they would spend the night before the annual report preparing their speeches, unable to sleep well.
"Such grandiloquence! I don't need you to repeat it to me; there are plenty of people saying it. What I want to hear is something else. You should know very well what I mean. I have said long ago that during your development process, whether it’s resources, packaging strategies, promotion, charting, or any advantageous methods, I will not hold back on any of them."
At this point, he set down his pen and fixed his sharp gaze on everyone present. The silence that followed was more powerful than words.
"Meeting adjourned."
"Phew! To put it dramatically, if I had to stay for another second, I would suffocate to death."
"Who says otherwise? After so many times, I still haven't built up an immunity." The artists let out a collective sigh of relief the moment he stepped out of the conference room. Their previously straight backs slumped as if they had just endured a form of torture.
"Every time I see Mo..."
"Don't say it! Just don’t! Assistant Chen, yes, yes... Assistant Chen, here we go again,"
The conference room door swung open once more, and all whispers abruptly ceased as they watched Assistant Chen walk directly toward the second seat on the right.
"Sister Ning, Mo is looking for you."
He Shuning was scrolling through the music notifications on her phone. Since she had followed the account, any related updates would be pushed to her device immediately, including interactions from fans.
One message caught her eye; it was a comment from a fan under their song, saying, "Finally saw your true selves at the Qincheng Music Festival! It was a delightful surprise, like hitting the jackpot while already in a state of happiness."
Below that, other fans chimed in with their responses, asking, "What? The Qincheng Music Festival? When was that? I feel like I missed out on a fortune," and "When did this happen? It was so low-key; not a single sound was released."
"Isn't it? You have no idea how much I've been imagining what they look like every day," another fan added.
Scrolling further down, she saw the first fan's reply again: "Tell everyone, Wilderness Brother Ye is super handsome! Even more than I imagined, with an extraordinary presence. I think he has more charm than those top male stars. Fans are totally winning here! ❤️❤️"
He Shuning casually tapped 'like' on that reply.
There were more fans asking questions below, but the original poster had not responded.
"Shuning, Shuning, Mo is looking for you," Sini said as she noticed He Shuning was engrossed in her phone. Assistant Chen spoke up beside her, but it seemed He Shuning didn't hear a word; her gaze remained fixed on the screen.
Sini gently tapped her shoulder to get her attention. When He Shuning finally looked up and met their eyes, the smile on her face faded to just a shadow.
"Let's go," Sini said with an apologetic smile towards Assistant Chen.
Mo Chenglin's office and the Executive Office occupy an entire floor at the top of the company. He rarely appears in public, using a private elevator that few employees have the chance to see him in.
His office is decorated in a style that mirrors his personality—always so gray and somber, with hardly a hint of color. The carpet is a French gray, and the overall decor is cold-toned, with even the lighting casting a cool white glow.
He Shuning dislikes coming here. The moment she steps inside, she feels an oppressive weight settle over her, making her feel heavy and her footsteps noticeably slower.
Sini did not follow her; Assistant Chen opened the door for her and then left.
Standing at the entrance, she squeezed her fingers nervously before stepping into this territory that belongs solely to him.
He stood with his back to her, holding a cup of tea as he gazed out at the distant view from the floor-to-ceiling window, resembling a statue.
