Xuan Yang felt a sudden darkness envelop him, as if all his strength had been drained away. He staggered a few steps, nearly collapsing to the ground.
Qu Si Yang reacted quickly, catching him with urgency written all over his delicate face. "Xuan Yang, what’s wrong? Is it backlash from your power? I told you not to act impulsively! Why won’t you listen?"
Xuan Yang could only feel his blood surging violently, as if his internal organs were about to explode. A wild force rampaged within him, threatening to tear him apart at any moment. He gritted his teeth, the sound echoing in the silence, enduring the excruciating pain as he squeezed out a few words through clenched jaws. "I... I'm fine, just... a bit exhausted..."
Before he could finish, a figure suddenly appeared before everyone, without warning, as if materializing from thin air, sending chills down their spines.
It was a man dressed in a blue robe, tall and upright, with long hair cascading over his shoulders. His handsome face and ethereal demeanor made him seem like a celestial being descended to earth. His deep-set eyes seemed capable of seeing through everything, and every movement exuded an inexplicable pressure that made one instinctively want to submit.
"Xuan Qing!" Lu Zhiyuan's expression changed dramatically upon seeing the newcomer; fear flashed in his eyes as he instinctively took a step back, clearly wary of Xuan Qing.
"Dad? What are you doing here?" Xuan Yang asked in a hoarse voice, forcing himself to endure the discomfort.
Qu Si Yang explained, "Xuan Yang, are you confused? He’s not your dad; he’s the most mysterious ability user in this village, possessing the power of foresight and rarely showing himself. It’s said he can see past and future, understanding all secrets of heaven. However, he usually remains elusive; even the Village Chief finds it hard to meet him."
Xuan Qing approached Xuan Yang and scrutinized him with those penetrating eyes before gently placing a hand on his forehead.
A cool sensation surged into Xuan Yang's body instantly, like a refreshing spring flowing into a parched riverbed, revitalizing his nearly exhausted form. He felt the turbulent energy within him gradually calm down, and the intense pain began to subside.
"The heart of the Puppet Master within you is too powerful; it’s like a wild horse that has broken free from its reins, capable of consuming you at any moment. You need to learn to control it; otherwise, it will eventually turn against you," Xuan Qing said calmly as he withdrew his hand, as if stating an established fact.
Xuan Yang was taken aback. The heart of the Puppet Master? Could this be the source of the violent force within him? What exactly was it? Why was it inside him?
"Dad, what is the heart of the Puppet Master?" he asked urgently, anxiety creeping into his voice.
Xuan Qing did not answer directly but instead extended his finger and lightly tapped in the air with graceful composure.
A light screen appeared out of nowhere, displaying a blurry image reminiscent of an old film reel with a hazy sense of nostalgia.
In the image, Xuan Yang was shrouded in black mist so thick it nearly enveloped him entirely. His eyes glowed crimson like those of a beast driven mad with rage as he ruthlessly attacked everything around him. The gaze and movements were entirely unlike his usual self.
Qu Si Yang, Lu Zhiyuan, and many villagers fell victim to his merciless onslaught; their deaths were brutal beyond imagination, leaving one horrified.
Blood stained the earth, transforming the once peaceful village into a hell on earth, shrouded in an atmosphere of terror.
Xuan Yang was struck with horror at this scene. Could this... be a glimpse of the future? He could hardly believe his eyes. Was that demon in the vision truly him?
"This... this is..." His voice trembled, nearly unable to form complete words.
"This is one possible outcome for your future. If you cannot control the heart of the Puppet Master, you will become a merciless demon, destroying everything you wish to protect," Xuan Qing's voice echoed like a demonic whisper from hell, sending chills down Xuan Yang's spine. The tone was cold and cruel, devoid of any emotion.
Xuan Yang stood frozen, as if struck by lightning. He could not fathom that he might become such a creature, a bloodthirsty monster who would kill his friends and family with his own hands.
He took a deep breath, striving to calm himself. He could not be ruled by fear; he had to find a way to control the heart of the Puppet Master. He could not allow such a future to unfold!
"What... what should I do?" he asked in a low voice, trembling slightly but filled with determination.
Xuan Qing said nothing, merely gestured again in the air, his movements still calm and unhurried.
The scene shifted once more. This time, Xuan Yang saw himself standing amidst ruins, surrounded by the bodies of the shadow forces. The corpses were mangled and gruesome, a testament to the ferocity of battle.
He radiated golden light, like a deity descended from the heavens, imposing and majestic. The brilliance was pure and powerful, starkly contrasting with the dark aura from before.
"In another path, you will defeat the shadow forces and become the true Puppet Master, safeguarding all that you wish to protect," Xuan Qing's voice resonated again, this time laced with hope as if he glimpsed a bright future.
As Xuan Yang gazed at his image in the vision, a spark of hope ignited within him. He could overcome the heart of the Puppet Master and protect everything he cherished! He clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging into his palms without feeling any pain.
"To control the heart of the Puppet Master, you must uncover the secret of the stone tablet," Xuan Qing continued. "Only by unraveling its mystery can you truly master your power and avoid destruction."
The stone tablet? Again with the stone tablet!
Xuan Yang felt puzzled. What secret did this stone tablet hold? Why did everyone urge him to seek its mystery? What kind of power lay hidden within that enigmatic stone tablet?
He turned to look for Lu Zhiyuan to inquire about it but found that Lu Zhiyuan had vanished without a trace, as if he had disappeared into thin air.
"Where is the Village Chief?" he asked, a sense of foreboding rising within him.
"He... he has left," Qu Si Yang replied softly, her voice tinged with disappointment and unease. "He said he had matters to attend to and needed to be away for a while."
Xuan Yang furrowed his brow, a wave of anxiety washing over him. He felt that Lu Zhiyuan was hiding something significant from him. The sudden departure of Lu Zhiyuan only deepened his suspicions.
"Xuan Qing, do you know who Lu Zhiyuan really is? What secrets is he hiding?" he pressed again, urgency lacing his tone as he desperately sought the truth.
Xuan Qing gazed deeply at him, her eyes seeming to pierce through his very soul, causing his heart to race.
"You don't need to know," Xuan Qing spoke slowly, her voice low and mysterious. "You only need to uncover the secret of the stone tablet; that is what you should focus on now."
With that, she turned and vanished into the night, as if she had never been there at all, leaving behind a faint azure glow that slowly dissipated into the air.
Xuan Yang stared in the direction where Xuan Qing had disappeared, filled with confusion and bewilderment. It felt as if a thick fog enveloped his heart, obscuring the path ahead.
Why wouldn’t Xuan Qing reveal Lu Zhiyuan's true identity?
Why did everyone urge him to seek out the secret of the stone tablet?
What secrets did that stone tablet conceal?
He felt like a person trapped in a labyrinth, unable to find an exit or direction. This sensation left him feeling utterly lost and helpless.
"Xuan Yang, what should we do next?" Qu Si Yang approached him and asked softly, her voice breaking the silence.
Taking a deep breath, Xuan Yang replied with determination in his eyes, "We will find the stone tablet!"
No matter what secrets it held, he was determined to uncover them and solve all the mysteries! He needed to know the truth; he had to take control of his own destiny!
He must seize the heart of the Puppet Master and protect everything he cherished! He could not allow that terrifying future to unfold; he would change his fate and safeguard all that was dear to him!
Suddenly, he felt a pang of anxiety, a strong sense of unease as if some danger was approaching. He looked around; the night was deep and quiet, eerily so, as if something was lurking in the darkness, quietly watching them.
“Si Yang, be careful!” Xuan Yang whispered, his voice laced with caution.
Qu Si Yang also sensed the unusual atmosphere. She nodded, gripping her weapon tightly, her eyes scanning the surroundings vigilantly.
The night wind rustled through the leaves, the sound crisp and clear in the stillness of the night.
Xuan Yang felt the dangerous presence drawing nearer; his heartbeat quickened. He knew that a new challenge was about to unfold.
He had no idea what would happen next, but he understood that he had to face it bravely because he had no other choice. He needed to find the stone tablet and unravel all the mysteries to take control of his destiny and protect everything he held dear.
He clenched his fists, his gaze resolute. He was ready to embrace the challenges ahead.
He lifted his head and looked into the distance, where the stone tablet lay, the place where his hopes resided.
He stepped forward, heading toward the direction of the stone tablet with determined and powerful strides.
Qu Si Yang followed closely behind. She knew this path was fraught with danger and uncertainty, but she was willing to accompany Xuan Yang on this journey because she believed in him and in their ability to overcome any obstacles and find their future together.
The night grew darker, yet their hearts were filled with hope because they knew that as long as they did not give up, they would surely find the light.
Their figures gradually faded into the night, but their story was just beginning…
