The night enveloped the village like thick ink, wrapping it tightly in darkness.
The dense night seemed almost alive, pressing down heavily and creating an indescribable sense of oppression and weight.
At that moment, the air felt as if it had solidified, and the tense atmosphere spread rapidly like a plague, infiltrating every corner without exception.
Standing at the village entrance, Xuan Yang took a deep breath, feeling a powerful force surging within him, like the tumultuous waters of a mighty river.
This force filled him with both excitement and a hint of unease, for he knew that the real test was about to begin—the trial was about to start!
To the northwest of the village lay an expansive and mysterious ancient forest known as the Misty Forest.
This forest was shrouded in thick mist year-round, resembling a giant draped in a mysterious veil, lost in slumber.
Legends about it were countless; some said it hid numerous unknown dangerous creatures, while others claimed that deep within the forest lay magical treasures capable of changing one's fate. Yet, no one had been able to verify the truth of these tales.
Even experienced practitioners approached the Misty Forest with caution, wary of venturing too deep inside.
However, the destination for this trial was precisely this perilous Misty Forest.
Xuan Yang and Qu Si Yang, along with several other equally spirited practitioners, formed a trial team together.
Leading the group was an elderly man with graying hair yet a vigorous spirit. His face was stern and unsmiling, but he exuded a powerful aura that instilled fear in those around him.
This seasoned practitioner willingly took on the role of leader, guiding the young team resolutely into the mist-laden forest…
The mist was thick, obscuring all visibility, as if one were engulfed in chaos.
The forest was eerily silent, broken only by the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot and the hurried breaths of the group echoing in the air.
The trees around them loomed like lurking beasts in the darkness, sending chills down their spines.
"Everyone, be careful. This place is dangerous," the leader, an ability user, said in a low voice, his tone heavy with concern.
The group nodded, gripping their weapons tightly, their eyes scanning the surroundings with heightened vigilance, nerves taut as if ready to face an unexpected attack at any moment.
Suddenly, a sharp, piercing scream erupted, as if it could tear through the night sky.
"Ah!" Accompanying this scream was the sight of an ability user collapsing to the ground without warning. His body shook violently as if struck by lightning, and he emitted agonizing groans. In the blink of an eye, his previously normal face turned pale as paper, devoid of any color.
"What on earth happened?"
Panic spread among the others as they gasped in shock and rushed over in a frenzy.
The ability user at the front of the group, acting as the leader, wasted no time and dashed forward to assess the situation.
He pushed aside the thick mist with determination. When he finally saw what was happening to the fallen ability user, he couldn't help but gasp in horror.
It turned out that countless black vines were crawling all over the fallen user’s body. These vines resembled sinister snakes, tightly coiling around him.
They intertwined closely without leaving any gaps and were greedily sucking away the life force from this ability user.
"This is bad! It's the man-eating vines from the Misty Forest!"
The leader, an ability user, instantly recognized the terrifying plant and couldn't help but exclaim in shock.
The Carnivorous Vine is a peculiar plant that only grows in this mysterious and enigmatic Misty Forest.
It possesses an extremely horrifying ability to silently approach its prey, ensnaring living beings with its long, flexible tendrils, and then slowly draining their life force until the victim is reduced to a withered, desiccated corpse.
Upon closer inspection, one can see that these Carnivorous Vines are entirely black, resembling ink stains.
Moreover, their surfaces are covered with countless tiny barbs that glimmer ominously in the dim light, sending chills down one's spine at just a glance.
"Everyone, move quickly! Find a way to cut these damned vines!"
Realizing the dire situation, the leader shouted at the top of his lungs. His voice echoed around them, filled with unprecedented urgency and desperation.
The group hurriedly swung their weapons, hacking at the vines that coiled around the ability user.
Blades flashed in the mist like flickering lights but struck as if against hard steel, leaving only shallow marks.
"Damn it! What the hell is this? Why can't we cut it?" one of the ability users cursed, panic and fear etched on his face.
At that moment, more Carnivorous Vines surged from the mist like a black tide, sweeping toward them with an overwhelming sense of suffocation.
"Run!" the leader shouted decisively.
The group scattered in all directions, fleeing through the mist like startled birds.
Behind them, the Carnivorous Vines pursued relentlessly, making a chilling rustling sound.
Xuan Yang grasped Qu Si Yang's hand, racing through the mist, his heart pounding violently as if it were about to leap from his chest.
"What should we do, Xuan Yang?" Qu Si Yang asked anxiously, her voice trembling and breath quickening.
Xuan Yang furrowed his brow, rapidly contemplating a strategy. The surrounding mist thickened, nearly obscuring all visibility and making it difficult to discern their direction.
Suddenly, a thought flashed through Xuan Yang's mind like lightning—he suddenly remembered his mysterious and powerful Shadow Puppets!
"Ha ha, I've got a plan!" Xuan Yang exclaimed with a surge of excitement.
Without hesitation, he closed his eyes tightly, murmuring incantations while his hands moved in a dazzling flurry to form seals.
In an instant, a torrent of powerful energy surged from within him, crashing forth like tumultuous waves.
At that moment, five shadowy figures appeared out of nowhere in the misty space like phantoms.
These Shadow Puppets were as light as swallows and exceptionally agile, resembling ghosts in the night, exuding a chilling aura.
They darted forward like bolts of black lightning, launching themselves at the clawing man-eating vines with astonishing speed.
The man-eating vines clearly did not anticipate such a fierce attack and were momentarily caught off guard.
Before long, they became fixated on the aggressive Shadow Puppets, wildly swinging their thick tendrils as if they were greedy pythons wrapping tightly around the bodies of the Shadow Puppets.
With their attention completely diverted by the Shadow Puppets, the man-eating vines could no longer focus on anything else, granting everyone an invaluable opportunity to escape.
"Wow! This move is simply incredible!"
"Isn't that just the spinning kick of the Blind Monk from the COS game?" A man with special abilities in the crowd couldn't help but exclaim.
His words were filled with unmistakable excitement and surprise.
Hearing this, Xuan Yang felt a surge of joy. He dared not slack off for a moment and continued to concentrate on chanting his spell, continuously summoning new Shadow Puppets to firmly restrain the increasingly aggressive man-eating vines, thus successfully opening a path to safety for everyone.
At that moment, he suddenly noticed a faint golden light emanating from Qu Si Yang, resembling a protective shield that neutralized all attacks from the man-eating vines.
The vines that attempted to approach recoiled as if shocked, making a sizzling sound upon contact with the golden light.
"Qu Si Yang, your protective shield..." Xuan Yang said in surprise, his eyes filled with confusion and curiosity.
Qu Si Yang was also taken aback. She looked down at the golden light surrounding her, her eyes filled with bewilderment.
"I don't know what's happening either..." she replied softly, her tone tinged with uncertainty.
Suddenly, the team leader shouted, "Everyone, come over here! It's safe!"
The group hurriedly ran toward the team leader, seeking refuge behind a massive ancient tree.
This ancient tree towered into the clouds, its trunk thick and its canopy dense, forming a natural barrier that blocked the attacks of the man-eating vines.
Everyone let out a sigh of relief, collapsing onto the ground and gasping for breath, still shaken from their ordeal.
"That was close!" one of the ability users said, his voice trembling and fear still evident on his face.
"Thanks to Xuan Yang and Qu Si Yang, we escaped this disaster," another ability user said, his tone filled with gratitude.
Xuan Yang and Qu Si Yang exchanged a glance, both smiling.
At that moment, a loud crash echoed through the air, and the ancient trees began to shake violently, as if an earthquake had struck.
"What’s happening?" the crowd gasped, rising to their feet and watching their surroundings with heightened alertness.
The leader of the abilities users turned pale, exclaiming, "Not good! It's the Guardian Beast of the Misty Forest!"
The Guardian Beast of the Misty Forest was a colossal monster with immense power, reigning as the overlord of the misty woods.
"Everyone, prepare for battle!" the leader shouted, his voice booming and resolute.
The group quickly stood up, gripping their weapons tightly, ready to face the beast's assault.
As the mist swirled, a massive figure slowly emerged from within, resembling a demon rising from the depths of hell.
The Guardian Beast had appeared!
It let out a deafening roar and charged toward the crowd…
