The night enveloped the village like thick ink, wrapping it tightly in darkness.
The dense night seemed almost alive, pressing down heavily and creating an indescribable sense of oppression and weight.
At that moment, the air felt as if it had solidified, and the tense atmosphere spread rapidly like a plague, seeping into every corner without exception.
Standing at the entrance of the village, Xuan Yang took a deep breath, clearly sensing a powerful force surging within him, like the tumultuous waters of a mighty river.
This force filled him with both excitement and a hint of unease, for he knew that the real test was about to begin—the trial was about to start!
To the northwest of the village lay an expansive and enigmatic ancient forest known as the Misty Forest.
This forest was shrouded in thick mist year-round, resembling a giant draped in a mysterious veil, lost in slumber.
Countless legends surrounded it; some said it hid numerous unknown dangerous creatures, while others claimed that deep within the forest lay magical treasures capable of changing one's fate. Yet, no one had ever been able to verify the truth of these tales.
Even the most experienced Ability users approached the Misty Forest with caution, unwilling to venture recklessly inside.
However, the destination for this trial was precisely this forest filled with danger.
Xuan Yang and Qu Si Yang, along with several other equally youthful Ability users, formed a trial team together.
Leading the group was an elderly man with graying hair yet a spirited demeanor. His face was stern and unsmiling, but he exuded a powerful aura that instilled fear in those around him.
This seasoned Ability user took on the role of leader voluntarily, guiding the young team resolutely into the mist-laden forest…
The mist was thick, obscuring all vision as if one were engulfed in chaos.
The forest was eerily silent, broken only by the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot and the hurried breaths of the group echoing in the air.
The trees loomed around them, shadowy figures resembling lurking beasts in the darkness, sending chills down their spines.
"Everyone be careful; this place is dangerous," the leader, an Ability user, said in a low voice, his tone laced with gravity.
The others nodded, gripping their weapons tightly, their eyes scanning the surroundings with heightened alertness, as if ready to confront an unexpected attack at any moment.
Suddenly, a sharp, piercing scream erupted, one that seemed capable of tearing through the night sky.
"Ah!" Along with this scream, one of the Ability users collapsed to the ground without warning. His body shook violently as if struck by lightning, and he emitted groans of extreme pain. In an instant, his previously normal face turned as pale as paper, devoid of any color.
"What on earth happened?"
Panic spread among the group as they gasped in shock and rushed toward him in a frenzy.
The leader at the front dared not hesitate for a moment and dashed forward to assess the situation.
He pushed aside the dense fog with urgency. When he finally saw what was happening to the fallen Ability user, he couldn't help but gasp in horror.
It turned out that countless black vines were crawling all over the fallen Ability user’s body. These vines resembled sinister and terrifying snakes, tightly coiling around him.
They intertwined closely without leaving a single gap and were greedily sucking away the life force from within him.
"This is bad! It's the Man-Eating Vine from the Misty Forest!"
The leader of the group, an Ability user, immediately recognized the terrifying plant and couldn't help but exclaim in shock.
The Man-Eating Vine is a peculiar plant that only grows in the mysterious Misty Forest.
It possesses an extremely frightening ability to silently approach its prey, ensnaring living beings with its long, flexible vines, gradually draining their life force until the victim is reduced to a withered, desiccated corpse.
Upon closer inspection, one can see that these Man-Eating Vines are entirely black, resembling ink-stained tendrils.
Moreover, their surfaces are covered with countless tiny barbs that glimmer ominously in the dim light, sending chills down one’s spine at just a glance.
"Everyone, move quickly! Find a way to cut these damned vines!"
Realizing the dire situation, the leader of the Ability users shouted at the top of his lungs. His voice echoed around them, filled with unprecedented urgency and desperation.
The group hurriedly swung their weapons at the vines wrapping around the Ability user.
The flashes of blades sparkled in the mist but felt as if they were striking hard steel, leaving only shallow marks.
"Damn it! What the hell is this? Why can't we cut through?" one of the Ability users cursed, panic and fear etched on his face.
At that moment, more Man-Eating Vines surged from the fog like a black tide, sweeping toward them with an overwhelming sense of suffocation.
"Run!" the leader of the Ability users shouted decisively.
The group scattered in all directions, fleeing through the mist like startled birds.
Behind them, the Man-Eating Vines pursued relentlessly, making a chilling rustling sound.
Xuan Yang grasped Qu Si Yang's hand, running wildly through the mist, his heart pounding as if it would leap from his chest.
"What should we do, Xuan Yang?" Qu Si Yang asked anxiously, her voice trembling and breath quickening.
Xuan Yang furrowed his brow, rapidly contemplating a strategy. The surrounding fog thickened, nearly obscuring all visibility and making it difficult to discern direction.
Suddenly, a thought flashed through Xuan Yang's mind like lightning—he remembered his mysterious and powerful Shadow Puppets!
"Ha ha! I've got a plan!" Xuan Yang exclaimed with a surge of excitement.
Without hesitation, he closed his eyes tightly, murmuring incantations while his hands moved in a dazzling flurry to form seals.
In an instant, a torrent of overwhelming energy surged from within him, like crashing waves.
At that moment, five shadowy figures appeared out of nowhere in the fog-laden space, as if they were phantoms.
These Shadow Puppets were light as a feather and exceptionally agile, resembling ghosts in the night, exuding an eerie aura.
They darted forward like bolts of black lightning, launching themselves at the clawing Man-Eating Vines with astonishing speed.
The Man-Eating Vines clearly did not anticipate such a fierce attack and were momentarily taken aback.
Soon enough, they became captivated by the onslaught of the Shadow Puppets, swinging their thick vines like greedy pythons wrapping tightly around the bodies of the Shadow Puppets.
With their attention completely diverted by the Shadow Puppets, the Man-Eating Vines could no longer focus on anything else, granting everyone a precious opportunity to escape.
"Wow! This move is simply amazing!"
"Isn't that the spinning kick of the Blind Monk from the COS game?" A man with Ability in the crowd couldn't help but exclaim.
His words were filled with unmistakable excitement and surprise.
Hearing this, Xuan Yang felt a surge of joy. He dared not slack off for a moment and continued to focus on chanting spells, summoning new Shadow Puppets one after another to firmly restrain the increasing number of Man-Eating Vines, thus successfully opening a path to safety for everyone.
At that moment, he suddenly noticed a faint golden light emanating from Qu Si Yang, resembling a protective shield that neutralized all attacks from the Man-Eating Vines.
Those Man-Eating Vines that attempted to approach recoiled as if electrocuted upon contact with the golden light, emitting a sizzling sound.
"Qu Si Yang, your protective shield..." Xuan Yang said in astonishment, his eyes filled with confusion and curiosity.
Qu Si Yang was also taken aback. She looked down at the golden light surrounding her, her eyes filled with uncertainty.
"I don't know what's happening either..." she replied softly, her tone tinged with bewilderment.
Suddenly, the team leader, an Ability user, shouted, "Everyone, come over here! It's safe!"
The group hurried towards the team leader's location and took refuge behind a massive ancient tree.
This ancient tree towered into the clouds, its trunk thick and its canopy dense, forming a natural barrier that blocked the attacks of the Man-Eating Vines.
Everyone let out a sigh of relief, collapsing onto the ground and gasping for breath, still shaken from their ordeal.
"That was close!" one Ability user said, his voice trembling and his face still showing signs of fear.
"Thanks to Xuan Yang and Qu Si Yang, we managed to escape this disaster," another Ability user said, his tone filled with gratitude.
Xuan Yang and Qu Si Yang exchanged a glance, both revealing a smile.
At that moment, a loud crash echoed, and the ancient tree shook violently, as if an earthquake had struck.
"What’s happening?" everyone exclaimed, rising to their feet and warily observing their surroundings.
The leader of the Ability users turned pale and shouted, "Not good! It's the Guardian Beast of the Misty Forest!"
The Guardian Beast of the Misty Forest was a colossal creature with immense strength, reigning as the overlord of the Misty Forest.
"Everyone, prepare for battle!" the leader of the Ability users called out, his voice booming and resolute.
The group quickly stood up, gripping their weapons tightly, ready to face the Guardian Beast's assault.
The mist swirled as a massive figure slowly emerged from it, like a demon rising from the depths of hell.
The Guardian Beast had arrived!
It let out a deafening roar and lunged toward the group…
