Fifteen minutes later, in the restaurant on the second floor of the hotel, Jiang Chen invited Xiong Sumei to dinner, but she felt a bit awkward.
"How about we eat together?" Xiong Sumei suggested.
"Forget it, I'll just eat alone," Jiang Chen replied, not wanting to sit with Qian Wenwu and his group. He found a spot for himself and began to eat.
Xiong Sumei felt helpless; she decided not to bother with Jiang Chen anymore and sat down at Qian Wenwu's table, while the bodyguards took seats at two other tables.
"Sumei, you can't be really interested in that guy, can you? He’s just putting on a show, trying to save face while suffering. You should keep your distance; make sure he doesn't catch a ride tomorrow," Chen Shuifeng said.
"It's fine; we might as well help him out. There’s no airport here, so let him go back to Tianfu City to catch a flight. He said he’s staying in Shanghai," Xiong Sumei replied, her impression of Jiang Chen surprisingly positive now.
"Does he really live in Shanghai? Ha!" Chen Shuifeng scoffed.
"That's what he said. Don't overthink it. Since I promised to take him to Tianfu City, I’ll keep my word," Xiong Sumei insisted firmly.
"Alright then, if you want to play the good Samaritan, go ahead. Just remember that being nice doesn’t always pay off. That guy who tried to scam you earlier targeted you because of him; he's a jinx," Chen Shuifeng remarked.
"He's not a jinx; his luck is actually quite extraordinary," Xiong Sumei laughed, recalling the snowfall earlier that day with a sense of wonder.
While they were chatting, several people suddenly walked into the restaurant. Leading them was a burly man in his fifties wearing a coat and sporting a necklace with a celestial bead. His rough appearance immediately suggested he was someone formidable.
The middle-aged man who had attempted to scam them earlier was beside this man, likely the boss he had mentioned.
As soon as they entered, their eyes scanned the room and landed on Qian Wenwu's table. They strode over confidently.
Qian Wenwu and his companions remained seated, calm and unafraid. They had expected a larger group but were relieved to see only a few individuals—hardly worth worrying about.
The leading boss looked at Qian Wenwu with a fierce expression that softened into a cold smile as he said, "I am Jin Shengkai. I heard you damaged one of my antiques and refused to compensate me. Is that true?"
"Brother Wu, who is Jin Shengkai? Have you heard of him?" Li Chengdu asked with a grin as he leaned back in his chair.
"Do we even need to say? Brother Wu definitely doesn’t know him—a small-time boss like him could never catch our attention," Sun Rong added with laughter.
Qian Wenwu also displayed disdain, crossing his legs and holding his wine glass as he sipped red wine while chuckling, "Boss Jin, there was indeed an incident involving your antique, but it wasn’t my friend who damaged it; rather, your subordinate crashed into my friend's car. We’re not even asking for compensation from you—how dare you come here demanding it?"
Jin Shengkai's facial muscles twitched slightly; he didn’t seem angry but instead scanned Qian Wenwu and his companions before smiling faintly and saying, "It doesn’t matter if you don’t know me; as long as you can read."
As he spoke, Jin Shengkai gave a signal to someone beside him, who then tossed a stack of documents onto the table.
"This is the appraisal certificate for my antique, along with the auction certificate and receipt from when I purchased it," Jin Shengkai stated calmly.
Qian Wenwu and the others picked up these so-called pieces of evidence and examined them; indeed, the Blue and White Porcelain Plate was valued at ten million.
