After Qin Si left with Luna, Lucius stood alone in the room, his brow furrowed. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was something hidden behind Luna's smile that he couldn't comprehend. Those clear eyes seemed to see right through him, stirring a sense of unease within him.
"Perhaps... I'm just overthinking it," Lucius muttered, shaking his head in an attempt to dispel his doubts. He walked to the window, gazing at the overcast sky, his mood growing increasingly restless.
Suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind. He turned abruptly and dashed out of the room.
"Luna! Luna!" Lucius shouted her name as he ran, unsure why he felt compelled to do so, but convinced that if he didn't find her now, he would regret it later.
However, when he reached the cellar door, two guards blocked his path.
"Third Young Master Lucius, no one is allowed to enter the cellar without Lord's orders," one guard said expressionlessly.
Lucius's heart sank. He knew that entering the cellar required his father's permission, but he didn't have time to seek his father's consent now.
"Step aside! I need to get in!" Lucius demanded fiercely, attempting to force his way through.
The guards immediately drew their weapons and stood firm in front of him.
"Third Young Master Lucius, please do not make this difficult for us," the guard replied coldly.
Lucius glared at the guards, filled with anger and helplessness. He realized he had no chance of breaking through their defense line.
"Damn it!" Lucius cursed under his breath as he turned away from the cellar door.
He wandered aimlessly through the Magic Castle, anxiety and unease swirling within him. He had no idea what Luna might encounter in the cellar or how he could help her.
Suddenly, an idea struck him, and his eyes lit up. He rushed back to his room and began rummaging through drawers and cabinets.
"Got it!" Lucius exclaimed as he pulled out a small magic bag from a drawer, a smile breaking across his face. This magic bag contained some of the magical artifacts and food he usually used. Perhaps these items could help Luna survive in the cellar.
With the magic bag in hand, Lucius returned to the cellar door once more. Taking a deep breath, he addressed the guards: "I have something to give to Luna; please pass it on to her."
The guard hesitated for a moment, but eventually nodded and took the Magic Bag, saying, "We will pass it on to her."
Lucius watched the guard walk into the Cellar, feeling a bit more at ease. He hoped Luna would be safe and that he could find a way to help her soon.
Inside the Cellar, it was dark and humid, filled with an unpleasant odor. After being brought here by Qin Si, Luna had been locked in a small room. The room contained nothing but a simple bed. She sat quietly on the bed, surveying her surroundings. Her expression was calm, with no trace of fear or anxiety in her eyes.
Before long, the door creaked open. Lucius stepped inside, holding a Magic Bag. "Luna, are you alright?" he asked with concern.
Luna looked up at Lucius and replied softly, "I'm fine."
"I brought you these; they might help," Lucius said as he handed her the Magic Bag.
Luna accepted the Magic Bag and opened it slightly, discovering it contained some food and Magic Artifacts. "Thank you, Third Brother," she said quietly.
Lucius observed Luna's serene expression, filled with confusion. He couldn't understand why she was so calm or what she was thinking.
"Luna, aren't you... afraid?" Lucius asked cautiously.
Luna shook her head and replied, "I'm not afraid."
"But... this place is dangerous," Lucius insisted. "You might encounter bad people; you could get hurt."
"I know," Luna said, "but I'm not afraid."
Lucius looked into Luna's determined eyes and felt a surge of admiration. He couldn't fathom where she found such courage.
"Luna, don't worry; I will definitely get you out of here," Lucius declared firmly.
Luna gazed at Lucius and smiled slightly. "I believe in you."
Just then, a voice suddenly interrupted them.
"Well, well, if it isn't our esteemed Third Young Master Lucius! What brings you here to indulge in some pity for your little pet?"
A tall boy approached with a mocking smile on his face.
"Leonard, what are you doing here?" Lucius frowned as he asked.
"I'm just here to see you," Leonard replied with a grin. "And to check on your little pet."
He walked up to Luna and reached out his hand, wanting to touch her face.
Seeing this, Lucius immediately stepped in front of Luna, glaring at Leonard.
"Don't you dare touch her!" Lucius growled.
Leonard looked at Lucius's angry expression and burst into laughter.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling protective? You wouldn't have fallen for this Little One, would you?" Leonard teased.
"Get away!" Lucius shouted, swinging his fist at Leonard.
Leonard easily dodged Lucius's attack and kicked him down to the ground.
"With your skills, you think you can challenge me?" Leonard scoffed.
Lucius struggled to get back on his feet and charged at Leonard again.
The two of them grappled with each other, neither willing to back down.
Luna quietly watched the scene unfold, her face devoid of any expression.
Her gaze was cold, as if she were watching two clowns perform.
Suddenly, she felt a wave of drowsiness wash over her and couldn't help but yawn.
"I'm so tired..." Luna murmured to herself before collapsing onto the bed, falling into a deep sleep.
When Lucius finally broke free from Leonard and returned to Luna's side, he found her peacefully asleep.
He was taken aback, filled with confusion and uncertainty.
"How... how did she fall asleep?" Lucius muttered to himself.
He looked at Luna's serene sleeping face, a surge of inexplicable emotions rising within him.
He didn't understand why Luna was so calm or what she was thinking.
Perhaps she was just an ignorant child who understood nothing.
Or perhaps she was a strong girl capable of enduring everything.
Or maybe... she was a mysterious young woman with unknown powers.
"Third Brother, your hands are so cold..."
At that moment, a weak voice came from the corner.
Lucius turned sharply to see a frail boy lying there, looking at him with longing eyes.
The boy's arms were covered in scars, his face pale, and his lips cracked.
"Are... are you okay?" Lucius asked with concern.
The boy shook his head weakly and said, "I'm... I'm hungry..."
Upon hearing this, Lucius immediately took out a piece of Magic Bread from his Magic Bag and handed it to the boy.
The boy took the Magic Bread and devoured it hungrily. Lucius watched the boy's messy eating with a heart full of sympathy. He knew that there were many like him in the Cellar. They were imprisoned here, suffering inhuman treatment, with no hope in sight.
"Third Brother... thank you..." the boy said gratefully after finishing the Magic Bread.
"You're welcome," Lucius replied. "I will come to see you often."
Upon hearing this, the boy's eyes brightened, and a hopeful smile appeared on his face. Lucius felt a slight sense of calm wash over him as he looked at the boy's smile. He knew that even in the Cellar, there were those who needed his help. He resolved to do everything he could to assist these poor children, to show them hope, and to let them know that warmth still existed in this world.
"You all... how did you end up here?" Lucius asked softly, breaking the suffocating silence of the Cellar.
A slightly older boy timidly spoke up, "I... I was sold by my uncle. He said he could get a lot of money..."
Another girl named Luna added, "I... I got separated from my parents, and then those people caught me..."
"I... I was mortgaged here because my family owed money..." said a boy with a deep voice, filled with despair.
As Lucius listened to these tragic stories, his anger grew stronger. Those child traffickers were utterly despicable and deserved nothing less than death!
"Third Brother, how did you end up here?" one child asked curiously.
Lucius paused for a moment, unsure how to respond. He couldn't very well say he came to this dreadful place to save a stranger girl, could he?
"I... I'm here looking for someone," Lucius said vaguely.
"Looking for someone? Who?" the children pressed on with curiosity.
Lucius glanced at the sleeping Luna and softly replied, "I'm looking for someone very important."
"Third Brother, you're really nice to her..." one girl said enviously.
"Yeah, Third Brother, you must like her!" another boy teased.
At this remark, Lucius felt his cheeks heat up slightly as he glanced at Luna, unsure how to explain. He didn't even know what he felt for her; he just sensed that she was someone who needed protection.
"Third Brother, do you see her as your sister?" a child suddenly asked.
Lucius was taken aback by this question. He looked at the sleeping Luna, and an inexplicable emotion surged within him.
He indeed had a sister, but she had gone missing when she was very young. He had been searching for her all this time, yet there was no news. Perhaps he truly had come to regard Luna as his sister. As this thought crossed his mind, Lucius felt a surge of guilt and sadness within him. He knew he could not replace Luna's family, but he would do everything in his power to protect her, care for her, and ensure she would not suffer any harm.
“Third Brother, are you cold?” a child asked softly.
Lucius then realized that the temperature in the cellar was very low, and he was starting to feel chilly. He glanced at the sleeping Luna, hesitated for a moment, then took off his coat and gently draped it over her. The coat was made from special magical materials that provided some warmth. He hoped it would help keep Luna warm and prevent her from getting sick.
“Third Brother, what about you? Aren't you cold?” the children asked with concern.
Lucius shook his head and replied, “I’m not cold.”
He moved to a corner, leaned against the wall, and closed his eyes. He felt increasingly cold, yet sleep eluded him. His heart was filled with worry and unease; he didn’t know what to do next or how Luna's destiny would unfold.
Suddenly, he caught a faint scent in the air. He opened his eyes to see Luna eating a piece of magic bread.
“You're awake?” Lucius asked.
Luna nodded and offered the magic bread to Lucius, saying, “You should eat too.”
Lucius shook his head and replied, “I’m not hungry.”
“Just eat; it’s really good,” Luna insisted.
After a moment of hesitation, Lucius took the magic bread from her and took a bite. The taste was unique, with a subtle sweetness and a hint of magical energy. He felt a warm current surge through his body, dispelling the cold and fatigue.
“Is it good?” Luna asked.
Lucius nodded and said, “Yes, it’s good.”
Looking at Luna’s smile warmed his heart. He realized that although she appeared calm on the surface, her inner self was filled with kindness and gentleness.
“Third Brother, why do those bad people want to capture us?” Luna suddenly asked.
Lucius fell silent for a moment before saying, "Because they are wicked; they want to use us and harm us."
"Why would they do that?" Luna asked, confused.
"Because they are greedy; they want to gain more wealth and power," Lucius replied. "They don't care about the suffering of others, only their own interests."
"They're truly despicable!" Luna exclaimed angrily.
Seeing the anger on Luna's face brought a flicker of comfort to Lucius's heart. He hoped she would remember this hatred and seek revenge when the opportunity arose.
"Third Brother, will you protect me in the future?" Luna asked.
Lucius nodded firmly, saying, "I will. I will always protect you and ensure you come to no harm."
Upon hearing this, a radiant smile spread across Luna's face. She walked over to Lucius and gently hugged him.
Lucius was taken aback; he hadn't expected Luna to embrace him. A warm current surged through his heart, dispelling all his worries and troubles. He gently patted Luna's back and said, "No need to thank me; I will always be by your side."
"Well, Third Young Master Lucius, what a lovely scene we have here, getting cozy with the little beauty," a boy dressed in finery approached with a mocking smile.
"Luke, what are you doing here?" Lucius asked with a frown.
"I came to see you," Luke replied with a grin, "and to check out your new little pet."
Seeing this, Lucius immediately stepped in front of Luna, glaring at Luke.
Luke laughed heartily at Lucius's furious expression. "What's wrong? Are you feeling protective? You wouldn't have fallen for this little one, would you?"
"Get lost!" Lucius shouted, throwing a punch at Luke.
Luke easily dodged Lucius's attack and kicked him down to the ground. "You think you can fight me?" Luke scoffed.
Lucius struggled to get back up and charged at Luke again.
"Please... don't fight..." a child cried out.
"Yeah, stop fighting; we're scared..." another child added.
Hearing the children's voices filled Lucius with sadness. He realized that his actions had frightened them. He halted his movements and took a step back, saying, "I won't fight anymore."
Luke paused his actions, coldly gazing at Lucius.
"You've got some sense," Luke said. "But do you really think this will protect her? Hmph, I tell you, she will eventually fall into my hands."
With that, he turned and left the Cellar.
Lucius watched Luke's retreating figure, filled with anger and helplessness.
He knew he could never compete with Luke; all he could do was watch as Luna was threatened.
"Third Brother, are you okay?" Luna asked with concern.
Lucius shook his head and replied, "I'm fine."
He walked over to Luna and gently embraced her.
"I'm sorry, Luna. I couldn't protect you," Lucius choked out.
Luna softly patted Lucius's back and said, "It's okay, Third Brother. I know you've done your best."
Lucius held Luna tightly, tears streaming down his face uncontrollably.
He felt an overwhelming sense of grievance and helplessness; he didn't know what to do to protect Luna or how to help those poor Children escape their plight.
Silently crying, Lucius's body trembled slightly, like an injured Little Beast.
In the Cellar, there was a deathly silence.
Only Lucius's suppressed sobs echoed clearly in the darkness...
In the distance, a low sobbing sound could be heard.
Chilly, humid, and with an unshakeable moldy smell—this was the first impression the Glorious Demon Fortress's Cellar left on me.
To be honest, this place was a hundred times worse than the storage room of my previous life’s laboratory!
I—Luna—was currently viewing this place, akin to a small concentration camp, from the perspective of an infant.
I honestly had no idea how I ended up here.
One moment I was enjoying afternoon tea in Lady Aelia's arms, and the next moment everything went black; when I woke up, I found myself in this dreadful place.
It would be a lie to say I wasn't anxious; after all, I had crossed over from a book and knew there wasn't a single good person in this Magic Castle.
"Little One, you're awake?"
A timid voice came from beside me.
I strained to turn my head and saw a boy around ten years old cautiously looking at me.
He wore a dirty linen robe, his hair was messy, but his eyes were clear.
This kid must be Lucius, right?
"Don't be afraid, my name is Lucius. They... they won't hurt you," Lucius clumsily comforted me, trying to gently pat my swaddling with his small palm.
I rolled my eyes internally.
Not hurt me? They brought me to a place like this and said they wouldn't hurt me? Did they think I was foolish?
But on the surface, I still pretended to be harmless, making a few cooing sounds.
There was no choice; my current persona was that of an innocent baby who knew nothing.
The cellar was quiet, with only the occasional sobbing of a few children and the sound of mice scurrying along the walls.
I glanced around and noticed that there were about twenty or thirty children locked up here, the older ones in their teens, while the younger ones, like me, were still in swaddles.
They all looked pale and emaciated, their eyes hollow as if they had lost all hope in life.
Strangely enough, I felt little emotional response to all of this.
Logically speaking, as a modern woman from the twenty-first century, I should have been shocked and outraged by such a scene.
Yet I felt unusually calm, even slightly amused.
Perhaps it was because I already knew this would happen; perhaps it was due to having experienced too much and becoming numb.
Or maybe... it was because the remnants of the Great Mage's soul within me made me indifferent to the suffering of these mortals.
The next day, I began to run a fever.
Children's bodies are troublesome; they easily fall ill at the slightest change in their environment.
Lying on the cold stone slab, I felt my awareness fading away.
"Luna! Luna! What's wrong?"
Lucius's anxious voice rang in my ears.
He touched my forehead and then ran out in a panic.
"Someone! Help! Luna is sick!"
Watching his retreating figure, a warmth suddenly surged in my heart.
Perhaps there were still some things worth looking forward to in this Magic Castle.
I thought drowsily before completely losing consciousness.
