The night was as dark as ink, enveloping the Glorious Demon Fortress in a deep and tranquil silence.
After leaving Aelia's chamber, Leonard did not return to his own quarters as she had wished. Instead, he took a turn and slipped into a small courtyard located in a secluded corner of the castle.
Here lived his cherished Concubine—an enchanting woman named Selena.
Selena had been waiting for quite some time. Upon seeing Leonard enter, she immediately rushed to him, nestling against him with a soft sigh, "Lord of the Fortress, you finally came! I’ve missed you so much."
Leonard wrapped his arms around Selena's soft waist, inhaling the Cedar Fragrance that clung to her. Yet, his mind was still clouded by Aelia's cold demeanor.
He recalled how, over the years, he had to prioritize Aelia in everything to secure his position in the Magic Castle, even being cautious about stealing glances at Selena.
This oppression made his resentment towards Aelia grow like a venomous snake.
Selena was perceptive and quickly sensed Leonard's troubled thoughts.
With sultry eyes, she said softly, "Lord of the Fortress, are you still worried about Aelia? I’ve told you before that woman is cunning and far from simple. Now that she has caught wind of your affairs, she will surely harbor resentment towards you. Who knows when she might strike?"
"Enough!" Leonard's gaze sharpened as he snapped at her, though his tone betrayed a hint of weakness.
"Aelia is my wife; she is the Lady of the Fortress in the Magic Castle. She would never do such a thing!"
Selena, however, remained unfazed and even more audaciously twisted her body in his embrace. With a playful laugh, she replied, "Lord of the Fortress, you are so naive. Women can do anything when they are jealous. Moreover, Aelia is a powerful Mage; dealing with you would be a piece of cake for her. Just think about it—if she truly wished you harm, what would you do?"
Selena's words seeped into Leonard's heart like poison.
He already harbored dissatisfaction towards Aelia, and now with Selena’s instigation, his suspicions and resentment grew wildly like rampant weeds.
He began to recall all the grievances Aelia had expressed towards him over the years and found himself increasingly convinced that Selena was right.
“I can’t just sit here and wait for death!” Leonard suddenly pushed Selena away, a dangerous glint flashing in his eyes.
He paced back and forth, his expression shifting between hope and despair, as a wild idea began to take shape in his mind.
Seeing this, Selena knew her goal had been achieved, a smug smile curling at the corners of her lips.
She spoke softly, “Lord of the Fortress, what do you plan to do? I am willing to help you with your troubles.”
Leonard ignored Selena, his mind consumed with thoughts of how to eliminate Aelia.
He had to strike first; he could not give Aelia any chance!
At midnight, the moon was obscured by Wu Yun, plunging the entire Magic Castle into deep darkness.
Leonard held a sharp dagger in his hand and silently approached Aelia's chamber.
Taking a deep breath to calm his racing heart, he gently pushed the door open.
The room was pitch black, with only a faint starlight filtering through the window, barely illuminating the contours of the interior.
Aelia lay on the bed, sound asleep.
Leonard tiptoed to the bedside, raising the dagger in hand and aiming it at Aelia's chest.
His hand trembled, filled with fear and unease.
He knew he was doing something extremely dangerous; if exposed, he would face the Eternal Abyss.
Just as he was about to strike, Aelia suddenly awoke.
She opened her eyes wide and saw Leonard standing by the bed, holding a glinting dagger in his hand.
“Leonard, you…” Aelia's voice was filled with terror; she could hardly believe that her husband would turn against her like this.
Seeing Aelia awake, Leonard realized there was no turning back for him.
In that critical moment, a small figure appeared in the room like a ghost, standing protectively in front of Aelia.
An invisible magical barrier instantly unfolded, firmly blocking Leonard's dagger.
“Ah!” Leonard let out a scream as the dagger slipped from his grasp, and he was thrown back by a powerful force, crashing heavily against the wall.
“Luna!” Aelia exclaimed in surprise; she recognized the one who had saved her—her little daughter, Luna.
Luna stood at the foot of the bed, her small frame radiating a cold gaze directed at Leonard.
Having sensed the dangerous aura in the room moments earlier, she rushed over just in time to save Aelia.
“You… how are you here?” Leonard struggled to rise from the ground, shock and anger etched on his face as he looked at Luna.
He could not comprehend how a mere one-month-old infant could possess such formidable power.
Luna did not answer Leonard's question. Instead, she slowly raised her right hand, gathering a powerful magical energy in her palm.
“No, don’t!” Leonard shouted in terror as he felt the terrifying power emanating from Luna, realizing he was no match for her.
Aelia got off the bed and ran to Luna, wrapping her tightly in an embrace.
“Luna, thank you. You saved me once again,” Aelia said, her voice choked with emotion.
Luna turned her head and gave Aelia a sweet smile, then spoke in her innocent voice, “Mother, don’t be afraid. Luna is here; I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
“You…” Leonard wanted to say something more, but suddenly felt a powerful surge of Magical Energy rushing toward him.
He barely had time to let out a scream before the force struck him, sending him flying backward, unconscious on the floor.
The room fell silent again, with only Aelia holding Luna, silently shedding tears.
She didn’t understand what she had done wrong to provoke such violence from her husband.
She also didn’t know what path lay ahead.
Suddenly, Luna's face turned pale, and her small body began to tremble.
She clutched Aelia’s clothing tightly.
“Wah…” A loud cry suddenly pierced the stillness of the night as Luna burst into tears, as if she had been greatly frightened.
This cry was different from her usual playful whines; it was filled with fear and unease, evoking a deep sense of compassion in those who heard it.
