The ground shook violently, and countless cracks appeared on the walls of the dilapidated temple, with debris tumbling down like a rain of stones, as if an invisible giant hand was about to tear this crumbling structure apart completely.
Lu Zhiyuan shielded Xuan Yang behind him, his gaze heavy and resolute, as if it were molten iron frozen in place. The sudden turn of events set alarm bells ringing in his mind.
"It seems the secrets of this broken temple are more complex than we imagined," he said in a low voice, a hint of unease creeping into his tone. Damn it, what kind of place is this? Could it really be haunted?
No sooner had he spoken than the ground erupted with a deafening crack, revealing a massive, bottomless black hole right before them, like a monstrous beast opening its gaping maw to devour them.
A powerful suction surged from the black hole, as if countless invisible hands were frantically pulling everything around them into the endless abyss. The remnants of the temple—scattered rubble, broken beams, and even the dust on the ground—were swept up by this overwhelming force, swirling into the black hole like a whirlwind.
Lu Zhiyuan gritted his teeth, his legs rooted to the ground as he fought against the nearly overwhelming pull that threatened to tear him apart. One arm held Xuan Yang tightly, while the other clung desperately to a protruding rock, his knuckles turning white from the strain.
"Hold on!" he shouted to Xuan Yang in his arms, his voice hoarse from tension. Damn it, this suction is too strong; I can barely hold on!
Xuan Yang clung tightly to Lu Zhiyuan, his face pale but his eyes shining with determination. He knew he couldn't give in; he had to survive—for his father, for his village.
At that critical moment, a figure shot out from the black hole like lightning and landed firmly before them, blocking the terrifying suction.
It was a middle-aged man, tall and imposing like an unyielding Qing Song tree. His face was stern, with chiseled features that exuded an aura of authority even without anger. His deep-set eyes were filled with the weariness of years gone by, as if he had weathered countless storms. He wore a long black robe adorned with intricate golden patterns that shimmered faintly in the dim light, adding an air of mystery and nobility.
"Dad?" Xuan Yang exclaimed in disbelief, a mix of surprise and joy flooding over him.
The newcomer was none other than Xuan Yang's father, Xuan Qing.
Xuan Qing's gaze fell upon Xuan Yang, and a flicker of pain crossed his eyes. He gently patted Xuan Yang's shoulder, his tone laced with guilt. "Yang'er, you’ve suffered."
Before he finished speaking, he struck out with one hand, unleashing a torrent of inner strength that surged toward the all-consuming black hole. With a resounding crash, that terrifying suction was forcefully dissipated!
"Dad, how did you get here?" Xuan Yang asked excitedly, confusion swirling in his heart.
Xuan Qing's gaze was deep and distant, as if it pierced through time and space to glimpse the future. "I have come to save you," he said calmly. "I know you are in danger here."
"Dad, how do you know I'm here?" Xuan Yang asked, more confused than ever.
"I have been protecting you from the shadows," Xuan Qing explained. "I know you have awakened the powers of the Puppet Master, and I am aware that you encountered the Shadow here."
"Dad, are you also an Ability user?" Xuan Yang asked in surprise, having always thought of his father as just an ordinary villager.
Xuan Qing nodded, a flicker of something unnoticeable flashing in his eyes. "My Ability is Precognition," he said slowly, a hint of resignation in his tone. "I knew you would face danger here, so I came to save you in advance."
"Dad, what about the Shadow..." Worry filled Xuan Yang's heart.
"He has already escaped," Xuan Qing replied, a cold edge to his voice. "However, he will not give up easily."
"Dad, what should we do?" Xuan Yang asked, feeling like a lost lamb in need of his father's guidance.
"We need to leave this place," Xuan Qing said decisively. "It is no longer safe here."
With that, he picked up Xuan Yang and headed toward the exit of the dilapidated temple.
Lu Zhiyuan silently followed behind them, his eyes filled with awe. He knew that Xuan Qing's strength was unfathomable; in his presence, he felt as insignificant as an ant.
They left the broken temple and entered a grove outside the village. The night enveloped the earth, shadows danced among the trees, and moonlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled spots of light like scattered stars.
Xuan Qing gently set Xuan Yang down on the ground and then said with a serious expression, "Yang'er, I am going to tell you a secret now."
"What secret?" Xuan Yang asked curiously, sensing that this secret was extraordinary.
"Under the dilapidated temple lies a powerful demon sealed away," Xuan Qing said gravely. "The Shadow seeks to break this seal and unleash the demon."
"A demon?" Xuan Yang exclaimed, his eyes widening in surprise. "What kind of demon?"
"It is a creature known as the Shadow Demon," Xuan Qing replied, enunciating each word carefully. "It possesses immense power and can devour everything."
"What should we do?" Xuan Yang asked anxiously.
"We must stop the Shadow from breaking the seal," Xuan Qing stated firmly. "Otherwise, the entire village will be destroyed."
"Father, I understand," Xuan Yang said, determination filling his gaze. "I will do everything I can to stop the Shadow."
"Yang'er, I believe in you," Xuan Qing encouraged. "You are the Puppet Master; you possess great power. You can surely stop the Shadow."
Xuan Yang nodded vigorously, his eyes burning with fierce resolve. He knew he bore a heavy responsibility; he had to protect the village and his family. He must prevent the Shadow and the arrival of the Shadow Demon.
"Father, let's go to the temple now," Xuan Yang urged eagerly. "We must stop the Shadow as soon as possible."
"Alright," Xuan Qing replied. "Let's go."
They headed toward the dilapidated temple once more, this time with the goal of stopping the Shadow and preventing the emergence of the Shadow Demon.
Lu Zhiyuan watched their retreating figures, filled with hope. He knew that Xuan Yang would succeed; he believed that Xuan Yang was the one who could save the village.
Just as Xuan Yang and his father prepared to re-enter the temple, a deafening explosion echoed from within, as if something had detonated.
Immediately afterward, a powerful wave of energy surged from the temple, sweeping across the entire village like an unexpected storm.
Xuan Qing's expression changed drastically as he spoke urgently, "This is bad, the Shadow has already begun to break the seal!"
As he said this, he quickened his pace and rushed toward the dilapidated temple.
Xuan Yang followed closely behind, filled with anxiety and unease.
They had to stop the Shadow as soon as possible; otherwise, it would be too late.
Inside the ruined temple, the Shadow stood before the altar, murmuring incantations in a low and eerie voice.
On the altar, a black rune flickered with an ominous glow, resembling an evil eye.
With each word of the Shadow's spell, the rune's light grew more intense, as if it were about to consume the entire temple.
Suddenly, the rune shattered, and a surge of Black Energy erupted from the altar like a volcanic explosion, shooting into the sky and turning the entire night into darkness.
The Shadow laughed maniacally, his voice filled with arrogance and triumph. "Ha ha! Shadow Demon, I have finally released you!"
At that moment, Xuan Qing and Xuan Yang arrived.
"Shadow, stop!" Xuan Yang shouted.
