Xuan Yang was roughly shoved by the villagers all the way to the central square of the village.
In the square, a large crowd had already gathered, all of them staring at Xuan Yang with eyes filled with anger and hatred.
At the front of the crowd stood the Old Village Chief and several unfamiliar elders.
The Old Village Chief looked at Xuan Yang, his eyes filled with helplessness and regret.
“Xuan Yang, why did you do this?” the Old Village Chief asked in a deep voice.
Xuan Yang looked bewildered. “What did I do?”
An elder stepped forward, pointing an accusing finger at Xuan Yang. “You dare to quibble! You trespassed into the ruined temple and stole the Sacred Relic. Your crime is unforgivable!”
Only then did Xuan Yang realize that the villagers had captured him because they suspected he had stolen something from the temple.
“I didn’t steal anything!” Xuan Yang protested loudly. “I just went in to take a look!”
“Still lying!” another elder snorted coldly. “We saw you come out of the ruined temple with our own eyes. Do you still want to deny it?”
Xuan Yang was filled with grievance and anger; he had done nothing wrong yet was being wrongfully accused of theft.
“I really didn’t steal anything!” Xuan Yang emphasized again. “You have to believe me!”
However, the villagers did not believe his words at all; they all thought he was the culprit.
The Old Village Chief sighed and said, “Xuan Yang, I know you didn’t steal anything, but now the evidence is conclusive, and you have no way to defend yourself.”
Despair washed over Xuan Yang as he looked at the Old Village Chief. He never expected that even he wouldn’t believe him.
“Village Chief, you can’t do this!” Xuan Yang cried out. “I am truly innocent!”
The Old Village Chief shook his head and replied, “Child, I know you are suffering, but this is the village’s rule, and I cannot go against it.”
“What rule?” Xuan Yang asked.
“Anyone who trespasses into the ruined temple must undergo the Guardian's Trial,” the Old Village Chief stated.
“Guardian's Trial?” Xuan Yang asked in confusion. “What is that?”
“The Guardian's Trial is a test set by the Guardian of the Temple himself. Only those who pass the trial can prove their innocence,” the Old Village Chief explained.
Xuan Yang looked at the Old Village Chief, a glimmer of hope igniting within him.
“If I pass the trial, will you believe me?” Xuan Yang asked.
The Old Village Chief nodded and said, “Exactly. As long as you pass the trial, you will be able to prove your innocence.”
Taking a deep breath, Xuan Yang declared, “Alright, I accept the trial!”
The Old Village Chief regarded Xuan Yang with a hint of admiration in his eyes.
“Very well, my child. I believe you can pass the trial,” the Old Village Chief said.
He then led Xuan Yang deep into the ruins of the temple.
In the depths of the ruins stood an ancient altar, covered in mysterious runes.
The Old Village Chief approached the altar and said, “Xuan Yang, this is the Guardian's Trial. You must pass the test of the altar to prove your innocence.”
Xuan Yang gazed at the altar, filled with both tension and anticipation.
He took another deep breath and stepped forward to the altar.
Suddenly, the runes on the altar began to glow, emitting a dazzling light.
Startled by the sudden brilliance, Xuan Yang quickly stepped back a few paces.
The light lasted for a moment before gradually dimming.
When the light completely faded, a black vortex appeared on the altar.
“Xuan Yang, this is the Guardian's Trial. You need to enter the vortex to pass the test,” the Old Village Chief instructed.
Xuan Yang looked at the black vortex, filled with fear and unease.
He had no idea what lay within the vortex or what he would have to face.
However, to prove his innocence, he had to enter the vortex.
Taking a deep breath, Xuan Yang stepped into the swirling darkness.
After a dizzying spin, he found himself in an unfamiliar space.
This space was pitch black, and he couldn't see his own hand in front of his face.
Suddenly, Xuan Yang felt a powerful force rushing toward him.
He quickly dodged, narrowly avoiding the attack.
As he focused, he realized that the one attacking him was a Black Shadow.
A shadow?
Xuan Yang's mind raced as he recalled his Golden Finger—Shadow Puppet.
Could this be the Guardian's Trial?
He silently recited the incantation and summoned his Shadow Puppet.
Once summoned, the Shadow Puppet immediately launched an attack on the Black Shadow.
The two shadows clashed fiercely in the air, creating a series of thunderous sounds.
While controlling his Shadow Puppet, Xuan Yang observed his surroundings.
He noticed that this space was fraught with danger, filled with traps and mechanisms.
If he accidentally triggered a trap or mechanism, he would suffer fatal injuries.
Xuan Yang cautiously navigated through traps and mechanisms while controlling the Shadow Puppet to battle Black Shadow.
After an intense fight, Xuan Yang finally defeated Black Shadow.
As Black Shadow vanished, a beam of light appeared in the space.
The light illuminated the entire area, allowing Xuan Yang to see the full extent of his surroundings.
It was a vast underground labyrinth filled with various monsters and traps.
At the center of the labyrinth stood a tall stone tablet, inscribed with several large characters—Guardian's Trial.
Xuan Yang approached the tablet and carefully read the inscription.
The inscription detailed the rules of the Guardian's Trial.
The Guardian's Trial was divided into three stages.
The first stage was to defeat Black Shadow.
The second stage was to traverse the labyrinth and reach the top of the tablet.
The third stage was to solve the riddle inscribed on the tablet.
Only by completing these three stages could one pass the Guardian's Trial.
Having completed the first stage, Xuan Yang now needed to navigate through the labyrinth to reach the top of the tablet.
"It seems that the real test has only just begun," Xuan Yang muttered to himself.
He looked deep into the labyrinth with eyes filled with determination and resolve.
He knew he had to pass the Guardian's Trial to prove his innocence and save this village.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped into the depths of the labyrinth…
At that moment, the entrance to the maze suddenly closed.
Xuan Yang found himself trapped inside.
"What’s going on?" A jolt of fear surged through Xuan Yang.
He hurried to the entrance and pushed against the heavy door with all his might, but it wouldn’t budge.
"Damn it!" Xuan Yang cursed under his breath.
He was stuck in the maze, unsure of how to escape.
Just then, he heard a strange, eerie laughter echoing through the air.
"Hehehe..."
The laughter came from deep within the maze, sending chills down his spine.
"Who’s there?" Xuan Yang called out loudly.
Yet, no one answered him.
The laughter continued, growing closer and clearer with each passing moment.
Xuan Yang's heart raced with fear and unease.
He realized he was in danger.
Clenching his fists tightly, he braced himself for a fight.
