When I opened my eyes again, the surroundings were engulfed in flames, and the thick smoke made it nearly impossible for me to breathe. A wall had partially collapsed, exposing the terrifying steel rebar within. 0

I staggered to my feet and then saw two people lying not far away. Pei Nana was lucky; she only had a few minor scratches. But Lu Mingze was not so fortunate; a massive slab of stone was pinning his leg down, rendering him completely immobile. 0

Pei Nana, upon waking, was solely focused on escaping and didn’t even spare a glance at Lu Mingze. I looked at the complex expression on Lu Mingze's face, and a wave of pity washed over me. The feeling of being abandoned by others is never pleasant. 0

Well then, I might as well do my best to help. I took a deep breath, mustered all my strength, and tried to lift the stone slab. However, after several failed attempts, I was still unable to budge it. 0

Watching Lu Mingze's pale face and the beads of sweat forming on his forehead made my heart ache. Gritting my teeth, I exerted every last ounce of energy I had left and finally managed to create a slight gap beneath the slab. Lu Mingze seized the opportunity and struggled to pull his leg free. 0

However, his leg was broken; he couldn't stand up at all. Pei Nana cried out in despair, "I'm still so young! I don't want to die..." 0

I dialed 119 repeatedly, but the line was always busy. Lu Mingze managed to prop himself up slightly and weakly said, "Call... Shen Mo..." 0

Hesitating at the mention of Shen Mo's name, I took a moment before forcing myself to make the call. But the phone rang only once before being hung up. 0

In the next moment, Pei Nana seemed to grasp at a lifeline as she shouted into her phone, "Xiao Mo! Save me! I don't want to die..." 0

I stared at the screen and let out a self-deprecating laugh. What was I expecting? That he would come to save me? 0

The flames grew larger, and the surroundings fell into a dead silence, broken only by the crackling of the fire, mingled with Pei Nana's increasingly desperate wails. 0

Perhaps this was the end. 0

Suddenly, the door was kicked open with a forceful bang, creating a narrow gap. Even though it was just a vague silhouette, I recognized him at once. 0

It was Shen Mo! 0

He rushed in recklessly, disheveled and in a panic, completely devoid of his usual composure and calm demeanor. My gaze followed him as he hurried toward Pei Nana without hesitation. 0

Pei Nana was crying like a rain-soaked pear blossom, clinging tightly to his neck, softly sobbing, "Xiao Mo, I'm so scared..." 0

In the next moment, she fainted in Shen Mo's arms. 0

He picked her up and dashed toward the door as if I didn’t exist at all. 0

Amidst the raging flames, I suddenly burst into laughter, tears streaming down my face. It turned out that when heartache reached its peak, one could truly laugh. 0

A dense pain spread through my hands as blood dripped from my fingertips. 0

Shen Mo wouldn’t come back... 0

"Xia Meng! Xia Meng! Pull yourself together; you still have a chance to escape..." 0

Lu Mingze's voice came through in broken fragments, but I felt my consciousness slipping away. Perhaps this really was the end. 0

I suddenly wanted to know if I died like this, would Shen Mo feel even a hint of guilt? 0

"Xia Meng! Wake up! Are you really going to throw your life away for someone like this?" Lu Mingze's angry shout pulled me back to reality. 0

I snapped back to attention. 0

The last shred of love I had for Shen Mo turned to ashes in that moment. I looked down at Lu Mingze and struggled to pull him up as we took slow steps toward the exit. 0

Just as I saw a group of firefighters break through the door, darkness engulfed me, and I fainted. 0
