Shuiyue performed a bow and turned to leave Yuqing Palace. Dao Xuan watched her depart, but when he turned back, he found that Yun's gaze was still fixed in that direction. He couldn't help but frown and lightly cleared his throat.
Yun's body jolted, and he quickly turned around, revealing a hint of embarrassment on his face. "Senior Brother..."
Dao Xuan glanced at him and said, "Looking at you like this, do you have feelings for Shuiyue Junior Sister?"
Yun sighed and replied, "Shuiyue Senior Sister is exceptionally beautiful and possesses remarkable skills; she far surpasses me. Naturally, I admire her greatly. However, a woman like her likely wouldn't have any regard for someone like me."
Dao Xuan pondered for a moment, seemingly unsure of what to say. After a while, he spoke in a deep voice, "As far as I know, Shuiyue Junior Sister seems to already have someone she likes."
Yun instinctively asked, "Who is it?"
Dao Xuan replied calmly, "It should be Wan Shidi."
Yun's body trembled, his expression shifting as complex emotions crossed his face. After a moment, he let out a long sigh and said, "It's no wonder; only someone as talented as Wan Shixiong could catch the eye of Shuiyue Senior Sister. I truly feel inferior." He shook his head, bowed to Dao Xuan, and then turned to leave Yuqing Palace.

Dao Xuan watched Yun leave, shook his head, turned around, and walked into the back hall of Yuqing Palace. As he strolled slowly toward a row of Quiet Rooms, he noticed a Dao Child, Azure Maple, tidying up the place. He felt a stir in his heart and approached Azure Maple, calling out to him.
Upon hearing Dao Xuan's voice, Azure Maple hurried over to pay his respects. "Greetings, Daoxuan Shixiong. What can I do for you?"
Dao Xuan looked around and saw that there was indeed no one nearby. He said to Azure Maple, "Aren't you usually responsible for cleaning the courtyard while Baishi organizes the rooms? Why is it you today? Where is Baishi?"
Azure Maple replied, "Reporting to Senior Brother, earlier this morning, Zhu Feng's Su Ru Senior Sister came looking for you but couldn't find you right away. She asked me and Baishi about your whereabouts. Neither of us knew. However, since Baishi has some acquaintance with Sister Su, he told her that you often go to two places: one is Yuqing Hall, and the other is Back Mountain Ancestor Hall..."
Dao Xuan's expression suddenly changed.
Azure Maple did not notice Dao Xuan's change in expression and continued, saying, “Sister Su only couldn’t find you at Yuqing Palace, and she is in a bit of a hurry to locate you. Baishi saw her urgency and asked me to temporarily help him clean up, so I took Sister Su to look for you at the Back Mountain Ancestor Hall. Seeing Dao Xuan's gloomy expression, Azure Maple felt a bit scared for some reason and hurriedly bowed before stepping aside.
The muscles on Dao Xuan's face twitched slightly. Suddenly, he flicked his sleeves and strode forward, passing through the corridor outside the Quiet Room, making his way toward the back mountain.
The back mountain of Qingyun was dense with ancient trees, surrounded by lush greenery. As he walked along the mountain path, Dao Xuan's pace quickened. The wind generated by his flowing robe swept through, causing the wild grass and trees by the roadside to bend low, hinting at his sudden sense of urgency.
However, his face remained solemn. Before long, he arrived at the fork in the mountain path. He did not even glance at the side of the forbidden area of Illusory Moon Cave, but directly turned onto the path leading to Qiu Wangyu.
The heavy eaves and solemn halls emerged from behind the green branches. As Dao Xuan walked quickly, suddenly his body trembled violently, revealing a look of shock on his face. There lay a girl’s figure on the stone steps in front of the hall of Qiu Wangyu, and upon closer inspection, it was indeed Su Ru.
Dao Xuan was taken aback and almost shouted out loud. Fortunately, his usual cautious and calm nature helped him suppress it. He quickly leaped forward to Su Ru's side; his first reaction was to lift her body while reaching out to check her breath.
At that moment, a strange sound suddenly came from behind him—faint yet close—coming from within the hall of Qiu Wangyu. It sounded like a beast’s low growl or a ghostly wail, as if accompanied by a chilling wind.
With a cold glint in his eyes, Dao Xuan instantly stood up. His robe billowed without wind as his spiritual power surged forth, presenting an appearance as if facing a great enemy.
Turning around, he saw that in the dimly lit hall of Qiu Wangyu, the flickering candlelight had extinguished at some point, making it even darker. The intangible darkness seemed almost tangible as it coldly stared at him; gusts of sinister wind blew as if an evil beast was about to roar and pounce.
In an instant, Dao Xuan felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar; a bone-chilling cold penetrated him. Yet he still widened his eyes, staring intently into that darkness. It seemed he wanted to call out something but no sound escaped his lips.
Despair flickered in his eyes, mingled with sorrow and a hint of anger.
However, at that moment, suddenly, the girl in Dao Xuan's arms moved sharply. After a moment, Su Ru opened her eyes and looked a bit dazed as she said, "Ah... Dao Xuan Shixiong, why are you here... ah!"
Her voice suddenly rose as she realized she was being held by Dao Xuan, and her face turned bright red. She hurriedly struggled to break free and jumped aside like a startled rabbit.
This sudden turn of events left Dao Xuan momentarily stunned, and he took a while to react. However, when he noticed the change, he did not immediately explain anything to Su Ru but instead looked towards the Qiu Wangyu hall.
Not long ago, the darkness had been as deep and heavy as ink, but now it seemed like an illusion; it had vanished. The flickering candlelight was still visible, illuminating the incense candles offered before the ancestral tablets of the Azure Cloud Sect. Everything appeared as peaceful and solemn as usual.
Dao Xuan let out a long sigh of relief, a hint of comfort and relaxation crossing his eyes. At that moment, Su Ru scolded him from the side, "Dao Xuan Shixiong, what are you doing? Why did you suddenly hug me like that?"
Dao Xuan glanced at her and couldn't help but feel a mix of amusement and exasperation. He shook his head and replied, "Who told you to lie on the ground like that? I thought something had happened to you."
Su Ru's face flushed as she said, "I came here to find you, but after searching for a long time without success, I saw that the scenery here was nice, so I sat down to look for a while. I didn't expect to get a bit tired and fall asleep without realizing it."
Dao Xuan paused for a moment and looked at Su Ru again. Then his brows furrowed slightly. Although Su Ru herself did not notice anything unusual, it seemed strange for an accomplished disciple of Azure Cloud Sect Zhu Feng to suddenly feel sleepy while enjoying the scenery.
He slowly turned around once more to look at Qiu Wangyu; the dim hall was silent and profound.
The flickering candlelight seemed like the gazes of the ancestors quietly watching him.
