A chill ran through Qin Si as she recognized the voice. It was Lord Leonard!
She immediately understood the implication of Luna's earlier words; behind the seemingly innocent actions of the Little One lay a keen insight.
Holding her breath, she quietly opened the door just a crack.
Leonard strode into the room with purpose, something clutched in his hand and hidden behind his back, a look of unnatural pride on his face.
Aelia reclined on the soft couch, her complexion pale, a lingering sadness clouding her features.
"What are you hiding?" Aelia's voice sounded weak yet carried an undeniable authority. "Show me."
Leonard hesitated, his gaze flickering as he shifted the item further behind him.
"It's nothing, just a little trinket. You wouldn’t be interested in it..."
"What is it?!" Aelia suddenly sat up straight, her tone sharpening, her eyes piercing like a blade directed at Leonard. "Leonard, what are you hiding from me?!"
Startled by her sudden intensity, Leonard instinctively took a half step back before reluctantly revealing what he had concealed.
It was a uniquely designed magical scepter, crafted entirely from deep-sea cold iron. Embedded in its shaft was a large Crimson Flame Crystal that emitted an unsettling magical fluctuation.
Surrounding the Crimson Flame Crystal were intricate runes that flickered with an eerie light in the dim illumination.
"What is this?" Aelia's breath quickened as she fixed her gaze on the scepter, as if trying to see through it. "Where did you get this?"
“It was… it was a gift from Vivian,” Leonard stammered, his eyes flickering, unable to meet Aelia’s gaze.
“She said it’s a unique magical token she crafted just for me.” He paused and added, “This thing is very precious, and I’m afraid you might… accidentally break it.”
Aelia felt a surge of anger rising from her chest to the top of her head. She abruptly stood up and snatched the Scepter from Leonard's hand, examining it closely.
The Scepter felt icy to the touch, emanating a faint Han Qi, contrasting sharply with the searing heat of the Crimson Flame Crystal. This conflicting sensation only heightened her agitation.
“Vivian? Again with Vivian!” Aelia’s voice trembled, almost squeezing the words out through clenched teeth. “Leonard, what exactly do you want?! Are you flaunting that woman’s things in front of me?!”
“I… I’m not flaunting!” Leonard replied, somewhat guilty but trying to maintain his composure. “I just… wanted you to see it.” He rubbed his hands together, looking uneasy. “Vivian put a lot of effort into getting this; she said it could enhance my Magical Power…”
“Enhance your Magical Power?!” Aelia laughed in rage, slamming the Scepter down onto the floor. “Leonard, can’t you see it yet?! She’s approaching you for your magical resources! And you’re foolishly letting her deceive you!”
The Scepter hit the ground with a sharp clang that echoed painfully in the silent room.
“You… you’re talking nonsense!” Leonard’s face flushed red as he shouted in anger and embarrassment. “Vivian truly loves me! She would even…”
“Even what?” Aelia pressed on, her gaze sharp as she locked eyes with him. “Even use her body to please you? Even go to great lengths to sow discord between us?! Leonard, wake up! You’ve been completely enchanted by her, losing even your basic judgment!”
“Enough!” Leonard interrupted her abruptly, his tone filled with impatience. “Aelia, I don’t want to hear any more of this! I’ve made my decision; I’m going to marry Vivian! And I’ll be giving her control over part of the magical resources from the Glorious Demon Fortress!”
“You’ve lost your mind!” Aelia stared at him in disbelief, as if seeing this man for the first time. “Leonard, you’re digging your own grave! Do you even realize what you’re doing?!”
“I know!” Leonard replied without hesitation, his tone firm. “I know better than anyone what I’m doing! Aelia, it’s over between us! I no longer love you!”
Aelia felt a wave of darkness wash over her, as if something had shattered within her chest.
She staggered back a few steps, barely managing to steady herself by gripping the table.
“Leonard…” Her voice was hoarse, tinged with an unmistakable despair. “Are you really going to do this to me?”
“I’m sorry, Aelia.” Leonard turned his head away, unable to meet her sorrowful gaze. “I have to do this.” With that, he turned and strode out of the room without a backward glance.
The door slammed shut with a loud bang, leaving Aelia alone in the room.
She slumped helplessly into a chair, tears streaming silently down her face, her heart filled with bitterness and despair.
Qin Si stood outside the door, listening intently, her heart heavy with mixed emotions.
Gently, she pushed the door open and walked over to Aelia, offering her a cup of hot tea.
“Madam…” she said softly in comfort. “Please don’t be too sad…”
Aelia took the cup but didn’t drink from it; she simply held it tightly in her hands as if it were her only lifeline.
“Qin Si,” she lifted her head, her eyes vacant. “Do you think I did something wrong?”
Qin Si looked at her with concern, gently shaking his head. "My lady, you did nothing wrong..."
Suddenly, a hurried sound of footsteps came from outside the door, followed by a familiar voice:
"Vivian, my love, how are you?"
Leonard rushed to Vivian's residence.
As he pushed the door open, a rich Cedar Fragrance enveloped him, sweet to the point of being overwhelming, yet it brought him immense comfort.
Vivian was leaning against the bed, her face pale and her hand wrapped in thick bandages, looking pitiful.
"Vivian, my love!" Leonard dashed to her side, holding her uninjured hand with concern. "What happened? Is your injury serious?"
Vivian smiled weakly and softly replied, "It's nothing, just a minor injury. It’s not a big deal." She lifted her bandaged hand and gently caressed Leonard's Luna. "For you, this little injury is nothing. As long as you’re happy, I’m willing to do anything."
Leonard's eyes grew misty as he tightly embraced Vivian, pressing a passionate kiss on her forehead.
"Vivian, you’re such a fool! Is it worth it for me?"
"It is worth it, of course!" Vivian's voice trembled slightly. "For you, I would give anything, even my life..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Leonard's kiss descended upon her—fervent and urgent—as if he wanted to pour all his love into that single kiss.
Vivian responded warmly to him, and the room was filled with an ambiguous atmosphere.
After a long moment, their lips parted.
Leonard gently caressed Vivian's Luna. "Vivian, you have suffered. You must have put in a lot of effort to create that Scepter, right?"
Vivian smiled shyly. "As long as you like it, everything is worth it." She paused and added, "Actually, I got a bit hurt while collecting the Crimson Flame Crystal..." As she spoke, she lifted her sleeve to reveal a gruesome wound on her arm.
Leonard gasped in concern, gently touching the injury. "Vivian, you are so foolish! You actually..."
"Shh..." Vivian placed her finger on his lips to stop him from continuing. "Don't say anything. As long as you're happy, that's enough."
Leonard was overwhelmed with emotion. He pulled out a delicate box from his pocket and opened it to reveal a Magic Gem that sparkled with brilliant light.
"Vivian, this is something I specially prepared for you. I hope you like it."
Vivian's eyes lit up as she excitedly took the box. "Wow, it's so beautiful! Thank you, Leonard, I really love it."
Seeing her joyful expression filled Leonard with a sense of satisfaction.
He embraced Vivian once more, whispering softly, "Vivian, I love you. I will always love you..."
Vivian held him tightly and whispered in his ear, "I love you too, Leonard..."
The two of them were immersed in sweet affection, completely forgetting the time, the place, and also… a woman who was heartbroken over his betrayal.
At that moment, a light cough from outside the door broke the enchanting atmosphere in the room.
Leonard frowned slightly in displeasure and turned to look at the doorway, where Qin Si stood with a serious expression.
“Lord of the Fortress,” Qin Si's voice was low and solemn, “Is this really appropriate?”
Leonard waved his hand impatiently. “What’s inappropriate about it? I love Vivian, and I want to be with her. What’s wrong with that?”
Qin Si sighed. “Lord of the Fortress, don’t forget that your wife is your legitimate spouse, while Miss Vivian… she is just a…”
“Enough!” Leonard interrupted her sharply. “I don’t want to hear any more of this! I’ve made my decision; I will marry Vivian, and no one can stop me!”
Qin Si wanted to say something else but was cut off by Leonard’s impatience.
“Get out! I don’t want to see you anymore!”
Qin Si shook her head helplessly and turned to leave the room. Leonard watched her retreating figure and scoffed.
“Hmph, such a stickler for rules!” He snorted and pulled Vivian back into his embrace. “Vivian, don’t mind her; we are truly in love, and no one can tear us apart!”
Vivian nestled in his arms and softly said, “Leonard…”
Leonard smiled proudly, "Of course! Whoever treats me well, I will treat them well in return. It's that simple!" He was completely unaware of the crisis his words would bring to the Glorious Demon Fortress.
"Tomorrow, I will announce to everyone that Vivian will become the new mistress of the Glorious Demon Fortress!" Leonard's voice was firm and confident, but also… foolish.
He did not realize that his current pride would soon turn into deep regret.
"Leonard..." Vivian's soft voice emerged, laced with hesitation. "Is this really okay?"
Leonard pulled her closer, "Of course it is! What could be wrong? I make the decisions here!" He paused for a moment and added, "Tomorrow, I will also allocate a portion of the magical resources from Magic Castle for you to manage..."
A glimmer of something almost imperceptible flashed in Vivian's eyes, and a smirk of satisfaction tugged at her lips before she quickly masked it with a worried expression. "But… what about her…?"
Leonard interrupted impatiently, "Don't mention her! It's over between us!"
He stood up and walked to the window, gazing out at the starry night sky, filled with dreams and expectations.
He could almost see a happy future with Vivian, completely oblivious to the enormous crisis that was quietly approaching…
Suddenly, a commotion erupted outside the door, and a Knight rushed in, flustered.
"My Lord of the Fortress, something's wrong…"
