My name is Zhu Jingsi, and I am fifty-one years old, a true farmer at heart. I have never traveled far in my life, and people often say that I am old and have a bad temper, but I have never done anything wrong. 0

Yet now, I have become a murderer, and I killed my own son and his entire family. 0

When I was younger, my wife and I farmed in the village, living a life of toil from dawn till dusk. We worked tirelessly to ensure that our two sons could have a better life. My eldest son was honest, just like me; my youngest son, Zhu Wenbin, was clever, taking after his mother. 0

I knew in my heart that one should not show favoritism and should treat both sons equally, but I couldn't help but favor my youngest son a little more. 0

“Dad, I ranked first in the class again!” Zhu Wenbin had always been sharp-witted and excelled in his studies, which filled me with hope for his future. 0

“Good job! You truly are my son!” I secretly slipped him some change to buy snacks, making him jump with joy. 0

Back then, I dreamed of the day when my sons would start families of their own, allowing me and my wife to enjoy our old age surrounded by grandchildren. What a simple wish! 0

As time passed, both of my sons grew up and started dating. Over the years, I managed to earn some money from planting fruit trees and saved up enough to buy two apartments in the county town. 0

As the saying goes, when children grow up, they must separate; when trees grow tall, they must branch out. I had to face the issue of dividing the family property between my two sons. 0

In 2005, when my eldest son got married, I gave him the apartment on North Street in the county town. It was a newly built building with decent conditions, although it was somewhat remote. My eldest grumbled about it but reluctantly accepted my decision. 0

I knew I was being selfish; I wanted to keep the better-located house on Nan Street for my youngest son. 0

In 2008, when my youngest son Zhu Wenbin got married, I gave him the old house on Nan Street. 0

I patted his shoulder and said, “Although this house on Nan Street is older, it has a great location right by the bustling market; it will be convenient for doing business in the future.” 0

Zhu Wenbin was very happy; he understood that the Nan Street house was worth more. “Thank you, Dad! You and Mom can live with us; I will definitely take good care of you both.” 0

I felt comforted; at least my affection for him wasn’t wasted. So my wife and I moved from the village to live with our youngest son. 0

Life has been relatively peaceful. 0

Although my daughter-in-law can be a bit difficult, I am the head of the family, and they don't dare to be too disrespectful towards me. As for the conflicts between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law, which family doesn't have them? It's not worth mentioning. 0

One day in 2009, Zhu Wenbin came home with a dark expression. 0

“Dad, do you know how much Oldest Son’s house is worth now?” he asked me. 0

I shook my head. “I haven't inquired about it. How much could it be worth?” 0

“It has tripled in value!” 0

He slammed his hand on the table. “North Street has been developed, and house prices are skyrocketing. What about my old house on Nan Street? It hasn’t increased a penny! Why did you give the good house to the eldest?” 0

I was taken aback. “What are you talking about? How was I supposed to know that North Street would be developed? I thought Nan Street had a good location, so I specifically allocated it to you...” 0

“Ha, good location?” 0

Zhu Wenbin sneered. “You’ve always favored him, from childhood until now!” 0

That hurt my feelings deeply. Over the years, I have devoted myself to him, even risking resentment from my eldest son to keep the good house on Nan Street for him. And now, he turns around and accuses me. 0

Furious, I picked up the cup on the table and threw it at him. 0

That day, we parted ways in anger. 0
