Mo Wen knew that the waves coming this way would grow larger and more intense, but he was not worried that he and Xiao Hei's Cave would be submerged by lava. Before excavating the Cave, he had thoroughly investigated the area. The previous waves that had submerged his Cave had not engulfed the island, so although the retreating waves were fierce, they were only a fraction as powerful as before and could not possibly submerge the island.
Watching the surging Lava Sea, Mo Wen felt his mood lift significantly, and the sense of suffocation in his chest began to dissipate. He turned to head back to the Cave to start his research. Just as he lifted his foot, a large wave crashed onto the island with a loud "thud!" Mo Wen frowned; the previously dissipated gloom surged back into his heart. Although this sudden sound caught him off guard, he quickly discerned that it came from nearby. He hurried back to the Cave to check the sensing Magic Circle, which showed no signs of disturbance. Now he could confirm that the sound was unrelated to Xiao Hei. The reason he had set up the sensing Magic Circle was primarily to ensure Xiao Hei's safety, and secondly because he suspected that any disturbances were caused by Xiao Hei's transformation.
It seemed that he could not focus on his work until he clarified the source of that bell-like sound. After weighing his options, he moved a Pillow outside the Cave, sat cross-legged on it, and closed his eyes to listen intently to the sounds around him. He remained in this position for two days; aside from the increasingly urgent Feng Sheng bell sound, nothing else occurred. Feeling the wind picking up, Mo Wen began to feel anxious. At this rate of change in wind speed, he would not be able to stay outside for much longer; with his small stature, he would be unable to withstand the fierce winds. The Demon Beasts that had been blown away were many times heavier than him.
He moved the Pillow to the entrance of the Cave so that even if a strong wind hit, he could return inside as quickly as possible or at least be blown into the Cave. Continuing to listen carefully to the surrounding noises, he also extended his senses to monitor changes in the lava at the Foot of the Mountain.
The wind grew stronger, and debris carried by it struck against the stone walls nearby, creating small craters. Strangely enough, there were no significant waves on the sea's surface. Mo Wen realized he could no longer stay outside and reluctantly got up to return to the Cave. He removed most of the Magic Circles, leaving only essential protections in place, and sat cross-legged inside while continuing to pay attention to external movements. His intuition told him that clues he sought were likely close at hand. At that moment, a massive Lava wave approached the island.
"Thud!" Rocks began to fall from the Cave walls as if it were about to collapse entirely. Mo Wen, sitting on the ground, paid little attention to this; instead, he felt as though his entire head was shaking from the heavy impact sounds. Shaking his head in surprise, he realized that this time he finally understood where those sounds originated from—the dull bell-like noise came from beneath him as massive Lava waves crashed against the island's stone walls. The walls of the Cave continued to shed stones; hurriedly, he got up and set up more Magic Circles.
"Why does it make such strange sounds?" After tidying up the disarrayed Cave and sitting at the Stone Table, Mo Wen began talking to himself. Since arriving on this island, he had conducted a meticulous inspection because he intended for Xiao Hei to reside here; therefore, he had been extremely careful and had found no abnormalities. He had experienced loud crashing sounds from waves hitting mountains before—this noise was entirely different—and when observing outside of the Cave earlier, there had been waves striking against the island without producing any "thud" sounds.
