In the room, only three people remained. The man pulled the blanket over his naked body, lying there leisurely, though his eyes revealed a hint of fatigue. 0

"I'm so sorry..." 0

Yue Ran clenched her fists, feeling deeply guilty. "I have a cousin who was deceived by a fortune-teller on Tongzheng Street. She told me that the person set up a stall under a locust tree, and I thought it was you. We intended to come and apologize today, but it turns out you are the person my grandfather mentioned..." 0

The corners of the man's mouth curled into a faint smile. "It's not your fault. The officials and spirits are often intertwined; it's unavoidable. My name is Liu Langrun. You came to find me regarding Yue Hongzhi, didn't you?" 0

Thinking about how she had harmed someone for no reason and now had to seek help, Yue Ran didn't mind calling her grandfather by his name directly. "Yes. Master Liu, my grandfather went with the archaeological team from Nanjing Academy to develop the Yue Gong No. 1 tomb half a month ago. Yesterday, the pit collapsed, and he was buried inside and lost consciousness. He once told Da De that if anything happened, I should come to Tongzheng Street to find someone with the surname Liu. He also said... he has something better for you." 0

"Yue Hongzhi came to see me before," Liu Langrun said softly, then fell silent. 0

Yue Ran interpreted his silence as reluctance. With her grandfather's life uncertain and knowing he had insisted she seek him out before leaving, there must be a reason for it. Besides asking for his help, she couldn't think of any other way. 0

She gritted her teeth and knelt down, bowing her head deeply before him. "Please—Master Liu. My grandfather raised me himself; I don't want him to suffer an untimely fate." 0

Liu Langrun let out a barely audible sigh. "The day your grandfather came to see me, I cast his fortune. The officials and spirits showed danger ahead; leaving would bring disaster, even worse than death, yet he still insisted on going. I can help now if you wish, but I want something in return: the Yue Family must give me one thing." 0

"Master Liu, what do you want?" It seemed that her grandfather had set out precisely because Liu had not agreed to something; what could the Yue Family possess that was more important to him than his own life? 0

"I want you." 0

"What?!" Liu Langrun seemed to sense the girl in front of him widen her eyes in shock. He smiled but did not utter the two words he had left unsaid. 0

Autumn had arrived, and the morning air was thick with fog, while a layer of translucent frost coated the leaves of the flowers and grass. 0

Yue Ran, dressed in the standard blue uniform and black skirt of a female student, was splattered with black mud, her face smeared and her hands clutching a basket filled with ingredients as she made her way into the house. Recent events had made it clear to her that his declaration of "I want you," which had sent her heart racing like a rabbit, was merely a request for her to take care of his daily needs until he fully recovered from his injuries. 0

Liu Langrun lay in a rocking chair, holding some rice bran. A sparrow flew down to peck at the food, and a gentle smile spread across his face, as warm as melting ice. "You're back?" he asked. 0

Yue Ran shot him a glare, only to find him with his eyes closed, leisurely resting in the chair. The soft autumn morning light bathed his face, making it appear as translucent as jade, yet as cold as stone. 0

"Ouch!" As she noticed him distracted and forgot about the half-foot-high threshold at the door, Yue Ran stumbled and fell ungracefully. 0

"I almost forgot to tell you," Liu Langrun said with a teasing smile at the corner of his mouth. "With the sun and moon in conjunction and wood clashing, be careful not to get hit by the doorframe or trip over the threshold." 0

Tears streaming down her face, Yue Ran picked herself up and finally believed that this person was either a deity or a transformed monster! 0
