I pondered over Jiang Ping's words from earlier. Clearly, there was some kind of inconvenient secret hidden within this house, but did I have the right and necessity to uncover it? As a mother, Jiang Ping's actions and words reflected her love for her daughter. Could she really harm her own child? Perhaps she was facing an insurmountable dilemma? But if that were the case, what power did I have to help them? 0

I sat in silence for a moment, unsure whether to change the subject to lighten the mood or to simply take my leave. 0

Just then, the doorbell rang unexpectedly. 0

Could it be Gao Jun? I wondered. However, since I was not the host, it felt inappropriate for me to get up and answer the door. I could only express my inquiry to Jiang Ping with my eyes. 0

Jiang Ping nodded at me, responding with a "Coming!" as she walked toward the door. 0

When the door opened, I was taken aback to see a man in a police uniform standing there. 0

"Hello. I'm from the District Public Security Bureau's Criminal Investigation Team. I would like to ask you about something. May I come in?" The man said as he showed his credentials to Jiang Ping. 0

Jiang Ping seemed surprised as well. She took the credentials and examined them closely. "Oh... Officer Lan... Please, come in," she said, stepping aside to let the officer in while casting a puzzled glance at me. I returned her look with equal confusion. 0

I stood up and said, "Well, I'll be on my way then." 0

"Wait a moment," Officer Lan stopped me. "Are you also a resident of this building?" 0

"Yes, I live in room 321 across the hall. What's going on?" My voice trembled slightly; could he be here about that incident? 0

"Could you spare me a little more time and sit down for a bit?" Officer Lan smiled at my anxious demeanor. "Don't be nervous; I just want to gather some information. I need to speak with all the residents of this building. Since you're here, it makes sense to ask you both at once. This way, it reduces my workload and improves efficiency. How about it? Would you please cooperate with me?" 0

I smiled as well, nodding my head before sitting back down. Perhaps it was the imposing police uniform that gave me a sense of security, allowing my mood to relax slightly. 0

"Alright, I'll be straightforward. Let's not waste any time," the Lan Officer said as he sat down across from us, his expression turning serious. "Last night, or possibly early this morning, a homicide occurred in your neighborhood. Are you aware of this?" 0

"Homicide?" Both Jiang Ping and I were taken aback. 0

Jiang Ping glanced at me and then shook his head. "No, we haven't gone out today." 0

The Lan Officer pulled a photo from his pocket and handed it to us. "This was taken at the scene. Please take a look." 0

I hesitated for a moment, not moving. Jiang Ping took the photo and I stole a glance from the corner of my eye; it didn't seem too gruesome, which gave me the courage to look at it directly. 0

The man in the photo was face down, appearing as if he had tried to crawl forward. Due to the puddles of rainwater on the ground, there were no obvious signs of blood. 0

I vaguely felt that this figure looked somewhat familiar, but I couldn't recall where I had seen it before. 0

"The deceased is a middle-aged man, approximately six feet tall. We are currently investigating his identity. Do you know anyone who fits this description?" the Lan Officer asked. 0

Suddenly, something stirred in my heart, and I instinctively turned to look at Jiang Ping. 0
