I was lost in thought when Jiang Ping sat down beside me. "Alright. Now tell me, what's on your mind? The moment I opened the door, I noticed something was off with you. Hmm, did you have a fight with Gao Jun?" 0

"N-no, not at all..." I bit my lip and finally mustered the courage to say, "I wanted to see your daughter, Tong Tong." 0

Jiang Ping paused for a moment, then gave a dry smile. "Oh really? You seem to care quite a bit about this child." 0

"Yeah, I saw her once on the balcony, and I... I really like her." 0

"Is that so? On the balcony? Hmm, you mentioned that before; it was the afternoon of the day before yesterday, right?" Jiang Ping said thoughtfully while looking into my eyes with a clear gaze, as if trying to see through my true feelings. 0

I felt a bit guilty under her scrutiny and nodded, my gaze awkwardly fixed on the floor. 0

Jiang Ping sighed and touched my arm. "Sister, I can see you're not a bad person. Today, I want to say a few things to you; please don't take it the wrong way." I looked up in surprise, not understanding why she would say that. 0

Jiang Ping paused for a moment before continuing, "Don't think I'm just carefree; I understand things well. Tell me honestly: have you heard any gossip about us?" 0

"No, Teacher Jiang, I..." 0

Jiang Ping grabbed my arm and shook her head, interrupting me. "If you genuinely care about our Tong Tong and just want to see her, I'd be very happy. But why lie to me and make up an excuse?" 0

I was taken aback, not understanding what Jiang Ping meant. It seemed there was indeed some secret hidden in this house, and she suspected I had come for that reason. But since I hadn’t clarified anything yet, I could only continue to play dumb. "Teacher Jiang, what do you mean? I don’t understand." 0

"Alright then, I'll be straightforward. You said you saw Tong Tong on your balcony the day before yesterday afternoon, but that's absolutely impossible; you're lying. You might have heard something about our Tong Tong out of curiosity and made up this excuse to come see her in person, right?" 0

The words left me utterly confused. I protested, "I didn't lie to you; I really saw her. Didn't you lock her in the house alone that day?" 0

Jiang Ping shook her head gently, as if speaking to herself, "No, it's impossible... You wouldn't have seen her." 0

"Can I see her now?" I gathered my courage again and made the request. Regardless of whether Jiang Ping's earlier words were intentional or not, I found myself at a disadvantage without realizing it. I decided to abandon her line of thought and instead get straight to the point. 0

"No," Jiang Ping replied firmly, shaking her head. "For whatever reason, it's not convenient right now." 0

"Why not?" I pressed on, disregarding my own rudeness. "Is she not home?" 0

"No, Tong Tong is in that room," Jiang Ping said, pointing to the small room on the west side, her tone somewhat harsh. "But you can't see her right now." 0

"I'm sorry. I know it's impolite to ask further, but I really want to know about Tong Tong, and I don't understand... why Gao Jun can see her? He even painted a portrait of her." The thought of that blood-stained painting rekindled my determination; I had to uncover the secrets here. I needed to help this girl! 0

Jiang Ping looked at me in confusion, seemingly unable to comprehend my words. After a moment, she sighed and said, "You don't need to come up with so many reasons... If you insist, then come back tonight. By then, you'll understand what's going on. I don't want you to misunderstand anything. I hope you truly care for Tong Tong as you claim." 0

At this point, there was no further depth to explore. Could I really force open that tightly shut door without the owner's consent? 0
