The mountain gate stood tall, shrouded in ethereal mist, just as it always had. However, when the news of Yue Kunlun and his companions returning bloodied spread, the peaceful atmosphere was shattered in an instant.
Among the group, only Yue Kunlun and Su Qingying could barely stand; the rest of the Core Disciples were all injured, with two being carried back on stretchers, their breaths faint and their lives hanging by a thread. The most shocking revelation was that the bloodied figure bound by dark ice chains was none other than Ling Cang—the once spirited Qilin Zi!
"What happened? How could Senior Brother Ling be in such a state?"
"Weren't senior Yue and the others supposed to be treasure hunting in the Starfall Ruins? Did they encounter an incredibly fearsome enemy?"
"No, look at the chains binding Senior Brother Ling; those are... Demon Suppression Chain s?!"
"What?!"
The crowd erupted into chaos.
Yue Kunlun wore a mask of appropriate sorrow and fear. Ignoring the murmurs around him, he hurriedly led everyone, along with the imprisoned Ling Cang, straight to the sect's assembly hall to seek an audience with the Sect Master and the elders.
Inside Tian Yan Hall, the atmosphere was tense. The Sect Master sat high above, his expression as cold as water. Below him sat several of the most powerful elders in the sect, some casting subtle looks of approval towards Yue Kunlun.
"Yue Kunlun, what exactly happened within the secret realm? Why is Ling Cang so gravely injured, and why did you bring him back bound by Demon Suppression Chain s?" an elder with white hair and a reputation for fairness spoke first.
Yue Kunlun fell to his knees with a thud, his voice choked with grief and anger. "Reporting to the Sect Master and esteemed elders! I... I am guilty! I failed to see Ling Cang's treacherous ambitions, leading to several fellow disciples meeting a tragic end at his hands, and our sect's treasured artifacts being taken away in collusion with demonic creatures! If we hadn't fought desperately..."
He could not finish his sentence, overwhelmed by sorrow.
"What?!" The room erupted in shock at his words.
"Yue Kunlun, clarify your statement! Ling Cang colluded with demons? He harmed fellow disciples? What is going on?" another Enforcement Elder demanded sharply.
"Yes, yes!" Yue Kunlun seemed to regain his composure and began to narrate the prearranged "truth" with difficulty.
In his account, Ling Cang discovered a powerful ancient Demon Artifact deep within the secret realm. Blinded by greed, he secretly allied himself with formidable demonic creatures to hoard the treasure for himself. When they noticed Ling Cang's strange behavior and attempted to dissuade him, he went mad and ruthlessly killed two fellow disciples on the spot while severely injuring all of them.
"What evidence do you have?" asked the Transmission Elder in a low voice.
"The evidence is here!" With a wave of his hand, several surviving disciples stepped forward to present "proof"—pieces of damaged artifacts stained with Demonic Qi from their battle, along with a small vial of Demon Spirit Powder that Ling Cang used to communicate with demonic creatures.
They also displayed their own injuries and pointed out the bodies of two fellow disciples marked with clear signs of Demon Skill s.
"We fought desperately to finally subdue him," Yue Kunlun added sorrowfully. "But that demon was cunning; it took advantage of the chaos to escape with some treasures. We were unable to capture everything. Please punish us, Sect Master and elders!"
This account, combined with witnesses and physical evidence along with their bloodied state from battle, appeared highly convincing.
The atmosphere in the hall grew unbearably oppressive. Several elders who had been friendly with Yue Kunlun began to speak out vehemently against Ling Cang, condemning him as having a "heart of a wolf and lungs of a dog," deserving of death many times over.
The Sect Leader's gaze was like lightning, sweeping over the faces of everyone below, finally landing on Ling Cang, who was suppressed by a special restriction, unable to speak and only able to emit muffled sounds filled with bloodshot eyes and frenzied hatred.
At this moment, Ling Cang was drenched in blood, his eyes filled with rage and madness. The spiritual energy within him rampaged under the weight of his injuries and the restrictions, exuding a chaotic and dangerous aura. To outsiders, it seemed he was on the verge of losing control, showing signs of being tainted by Demonic Qi.
Inside the hall, several elders led by Elder Liu, who had connections with the the Yue Family, began to discuss among themselves: "The evidence is conclusive; the Demonic Qi is overwhelming. This child cannot be spared!" "Colluding with demonic forces and harming fellow disciples—how can the sect's thousand-year reputation be destroyed in an instant?" Their voices were not loud, but they clearly reached everyone's ears.
“Su Qingying,” the Sect Leader's voice carried a hint of fatigue, “you speak. Is what Yue Kunlun said true?”
All eyes instantly focused on Su Qingying. Her delicate body trembled, her face as pale as paper. She hesitated for a moment, tears rolling down her cheeks like broken pearls. She glanced at Ling Cang, who was bound in chains and in a pitiful state, then quickly lowered her head, her voice barely above a whisper: “I… I was terrified at that time… I can’t remember many details, but… but senior Yue and the others did indeed fight with Senior Brother Ling…”
Her ambiguous words effectively confirmed Yue Kunlun's claims!
Upon hearing this, Ling Cang's body trembled violently; the last glimmer of light in his eyes extinguished completely, leaving only silence and mockery behind. Enough! Everything was enough!
“Since that is the case…” The Sect Leader closed his eyes; when he opened them again, they were filled with authority and resolve. “As a core disciple of the sect, Ling Cang has shown ingratitude by colluding with demonic forces and harming fellow disciples. The evidence is irrefutable; he cannot be tolerated!”
“According to the sect’s ironclad laws, he shall face the utmost punishment—his soul scattered! However, considering his past contributions to the sect and as a warning to future generations…” The Sect Leader paused, scanning those below him. “His cultivation shall be completely abolished, his foundation shattered, and he shall be cast into Abyss of Demon Suppression!”
“The Sect Leader is wise!” The elders from Yue Kunlun’s faction immediately echoed loudly. The others either remained silent or sighed.
Soon, news spread throughout the entire Tian Yan Sword Sect. Countless disciples rushed to the execution platform.
Ling Cang was dragged to the center of the platform by two enforcement disciples. He raised his head and scanned the familiar and unfamiliar faces below—curiosity, pity, schadenfreude, and… Yue Kunlun’s triumphant gaze hidden among the crowd.
Suddenly, he felt an urge to laugh—to laugh at the injustice of this world, to laugh at the malice of humanity, to laugh at his own foolishness.
The Enforcement Elder stepped onto the platform and loudly proclaimed Ling Cang’s “crimes” and judgment.
Then he extended his withered hand and pressed it against Ling Cang’s Dantian.
“Ah—!”
An indescribable agony surged through his entire body! The immense spiritual power he had painstakingly cultivated burst forth like a flood released from a dam, dissipating wildly!
Immediately afterward, several streams of strange gray energy shot from the elder’s fingertips into Ling Cang’s body, destroying everything along his meridians!
The eight extraordinary meridians and twelve regular meridians… shattered inch by inch!
His foundation collapsed completely!
Ling Cang's body convulsed violently as he emitted inaudible gasps; darkness clouded his vision. The cultivation he once took pride in—the foundation that supported all his glory and pride—was utterly destroyed in that moment!
He had become a cripple! A cripple even inferior to an ordinary mortal!
When everything came to an end, Ling Cang collapsed onto the ground, leaving only his eyes fixed intensely on the direction of Yue Kunlun.
"Take him away! Throw him into Abyss of Demon Suppression!" The Enforcement Elder waved his hand expressionlessly.
Two disciples stepped forward and dragged the barely alive Ling Cang toward the abyss entrance located in the forbidden area of the sect's back mountain, as if they were hauling a dead dog.
Abyss of Demon Suppression, a place said to seal the Ancient Demon Lord and Countless Evil Souls and Vengeful Spirits, had been a one-way passage for centuries—no one ever returned!
At the entrance, fierce winds howled, and the cries of ghosts and wolves echoed endlessly. The pitch-black abyss seemed like the gaping maw of a giant beast, ready to devour everything.
"Ling Cang, go in peace. Your era has come to an end," said Yue Kunlun.
Ling Cang did not look at him; he merely etched the faces filled with delight and hypocrisy deep into the very core of his soul.
The enforcement disciples worked together to throw Ling Cang's body into that endless darkness!
He plummeted rapidly! The howling winds and wailing ghosts filled his ears! Before him lay an all-consuming darkness!
Hatred! A tidal wave of resentment!
Yue Kunlun! Su Qingying! Tian Yan Sword Sect! All those who betrayed me, slandered me, and destroyed me!
I, Ling Cang, will surely rise as a vengeful spirit from this hellish abyss!
I will crush you all… into dust!
