The contrast between reality and memories deepened my pain and despair.
Lu Jing Shen, how long will you be deceived by Su Wan? When will you finally see her true colors?
As I stepped out of the hospital, a light rain began to fall, and there were hardly any pedestrians on the street.
The rain grew heavier, the cold droplets hitting my face, yet I felt nothing.
My body was growing weaker, darkness clouding my vision, and the wound on my knee began to throb painfully.
Suddenly, a wave of dizziness washed over me. My vision blurred, and I lost control of my body, collapsing to the ground.
The cold rain soaked through my clothes in an instant, the biting chill making me shiver uncontrollably.
As my consciousness faded, I felt myself sinking into an endless abyss.
In my dazed state, I heard someone calling my name; it seemed to be a passerby.
They helped me up and took me to a nearby hospital.
With the last of my strength, I grabbed my phone, trembling as I found Lu Jing Shen's number and sent him a message: "Jing Shen, it hurts so much... please save me..."
Those few words drained all my energy.
I longed for him to see this message, to come and rescue me, even if it was just to look at me one last time.
The phone screen dimmed, and there was no reply.
Time passed slowly, and my consciousness grew increasingly hazy, everything around me becoming distant and blurred.
"Will he come?" I asked myself weakly.
"Even if just to pity me, a glance would be enough..." In the end, I still did not receive a reply.
Darkness fell completely, and I sank into endless silence.
When the phone rang, Lu Jing Shen was already irritated, his tie loosened. Su Wan nestled in his arms, calling him "Brother Jing Shen" in a way that melted his heart.
He grabbed his phone and glanced at it; an unfamiliar number made him even angrier. "Who is it?" he snapped.
"Is this Mr. Lu Jing Shen? This is City Hospital. Your wife, Ms. Su Qingqian, has just passed away."
Passed away? Wife? Su Qingqian? Lu Jing Shen froze, his mind buzzing as he struggled to process the information.
Su Qingqian? Dead? What kind of joke was this!
"You're mistaken," he frowned, impatience lacing his tone, but upon closer inspection, there was an unrecognized hint of panic in his voice. "She was fine; how could she possibly be dead?"
"Mr. Lu, we did our best. Ms. Su was in the late stages of cancer; by the time she arrived... it was already too late."
There was a pause on the other end. "I'm very sorry for your loss."
Sorry for my loss? Lu Jing Shen nearly laughed out loud. What loss? What sorrow could he possibly feel for Su Qingqian?
Su Wan shifted in his arms and asked softly, "Brother Jing Shen, who is it?"
Lu Jing Shen ignored her, his eyes glued to his phone as if he were trying to bore a hole through it.
What was this woman up to now? Late-stage cancer? Faking her death? Revenge?
It had to be revenge! Revenge for his indifference towards her, revenge for his favoritism towards Su Wan.
This was all she could do—cause a scene even in death!
"Ha, revenge on me?" Lu Jing Shen scoffed into the phone, his voice icy. "Sure, Su Qingqian, you really went to great lengths for this. Faking your death? Do you think I would believe that?"
With that, he hung up with a sharp click and tossed the phone aside.
Noticing his grim expression, Su Wan cautiously asked, "Brother Jing Shen, what's wrong? Who called?"
Lu Jing Shen remained silent, his brow furrowing deeper as irritation bubbled within him. That woman, Su Qingqian, though annoying… would she really joke about her own life?
What if… what if it were true?
No way! Absolutely impossible! How could she die? She loved him so much; how could she bear to leave him like that?
But… what if?
The thought sprouted in his mind like wild grass, growing uncontrollably.
No, he had to go see for himself what that woman was up to.
"Brother Jing Shen?" Su Wan called out again, her voice tinged with a hint of grievance.
Lu Jing Shen finally came to his senses and glanced at her, his tone softening slightly. "It's nothing, just a prank call."
"Really?" Su Wan was skeptical, a hint of curiosity flashing in her eyes.
"Really." Lu Jing Shen sounded a bit impatient as he stood up and grabbed his coat. "I have some work at the company. I need to go."
"Hey, Brother Jing Shen..." Su Wan wanted to say something more, but Lu Jing Shen had already strode out, slamming the door behind him.
Su Wan stared at the closed door, her expression darkening, her eyes shifting between hope and despair.
And I, from the perspective of a ghost, watched it all with cold indifference.
Lu Jing Shen, are you finally feeling flustered?
But it’s too late. Everything is too late.
I watched his hurried figure disappear, feeling not a single ripple in my heart.
Revenge? Ha, my death is the greatest revenge against you.
Letting you live forever in regret and pain is what I truly wish to see.
