"Look! Brother Erniu, they are back!" The sharp-eyed young man spotted Mo Wen and Erniu approaching, with Erniu carrying a large silver tree that was about the size of a person. Upon seeing this, Old Village Chief and the others finally felt relieved.
"Alright, everyone disperse. We have matters to discuss with Erniu, so you all can head home and wait peacefully," Old Village Chief said at the entrance of the ancestral hall, sending everyone away. He then led Erniu and Mo Wen inside. The Bai Xu Tree that Erniu was carrying nearly smashed the door of the hall. Initially, Mo Wen had suggested cutting the tree into several sections for easier transport and to fit it into a storage bag. However, Erniu refused; to prevent it from regrowing, he ultimately uprooted the entire tree and brought it back. Once uprooted, the Bai Xu Tree began to shrink, eventually reducing to half its original size, indicating that its mother plant had died. The reason Erniu did this was mainly because he heard from Er Gou Brother that the entire Bai Xu could be used for medicine and had significant benefits for practitioners' Shen Hun. It was also an excellent auxiliary material for martial artists refining spirit and cultivators focusing their minds, with minimal side effects—truly a rare opportunity for a small village like Kao Shu.
The Village Chief and the Elders looked at Mo Wen and Erniu with puzzled expressions. Why did these two bring back a whole tree after going to eliminate the Bai Xu? Furthermore, it appeared to be uprooted entirely. Then, Erniu took out one hundred eighty White Fluff Fruits from his storage bag and placed them on the table in the hall. He also set down another storage bag containing some branches and leaves of the Bai Xu Tree. At first, Mo Wen was baffled by how Erniu didn’t spare even a single leaf, but after Erniu explained, he understood. Although Kao Shu Village was near Cloud Mist Forest and harvested plenty of medicinal materials each year, there were very few that benefited Shen Hun. As a result, the overall strength of the villagers was low. Now that they had the Bai Xu, which was beneficial for Shen Hun and of such high quality as Ghoulwood, he naturally wouldn’t let it go. The two began an intensive harvest before Erniu expressed his concern; they followed the river upstream to check for any other Bai Xu Trees.
"Erniu, please tell us what happened," Village Chief finally couldn’t hold back any longer after seeing the tree in the yard and the items on the table. Erniu then recounted everything about their search for Bai Xu to Village Chief and the elders.
"...Thanks to Er Gou Brother this time, or I would have been harmed by this Bai Xu, let alone these gains."
"You truly are a benefactor of Kao Shu Village!" Village Chief exclaimed as he prepared to bow deeply to Mo Wen, with a group of elders and Erniu following suit.
"Senior! What are you doing? As a junior in the village, how could I not help when needed? Besides, since I call Erniu brother, his matters are my matters too. What I did is within my capabilities and is only right," Mo Wen hurriedly responded with a bow.
"Young brother, you saved Erniu in the forest and now saved our entire village; you deserve this honor. If you refuse this gesture of gratitude, all of us old bones in Kao Shu Village will be pointed at by others," Village Chief insisted. Ultimately, Mo Wen awkwardly accepted their gratitude and returned it; his reasoning was simple enough that none of the elders could refuse: "Doctrine Party dictates such courtesy."
As for the Bai Xu Tree and White Fluff Fruits, after some back-and-forth refusals, Mo Wen ended up accepting ten fruits. He then called for a healer from the village and handed him several Chi Jing that he had refined multiple times along with a simple prescription for him to prepare for those unconscious children; as for others who were not severely affected, they would recover after resting for a few days. After chatting with the elders in the ancestral hall for a while longer, Mo Wen took his leave and returned to his room to rest.
