If it weren't for your cousin's husband being on a business trip these days, I would definitely have him lend you his Mercedes-Benz as your wedding car," Aunt Huang Lin said, always mentioning her son-in-law's successful career and affluent background.
"Aunt, my cousin's car is already very nice," Huang Lin replied with a smile. She was quite easygoing; if she were a vain person, she wouldn't have chosen Wang Shun Yuan.
Wang Shun Yuan stood to the side, feeling embarrassed. He had no house or car at the moment, which indeed made Huang Lin lose face in front of her relatives. But there was nothing he could do; all he could do was silently resent his own inadequacy.
The group got into the car and sped off towards Immortal Lotus Garden.
An hour later, they arrived at the entrance of Immortal Lotus Garden. Such a high-end community naturally did not allow just any vehicle to enter. They parked in a nearby lot and gathered at the entrance.
"Hey, where's your friend? She didn't bail on you at the last minute, did she?" Chen Renjing mocked when she saw no one waiting for them.
Huang Lin's relatives wore gloomy expressions, thinking that Jiang Chen was an unreliable friend. Everyone had arrived, yet her absence made it clear that they did not take Jiang Chen seriously.
"She had something to do this afternoon, so I didn't ask her to come. But she has already sent someone with the keys and should be here soon," Jiang Chen replied with a smile. Qin Xiaoya had a meeting at her company that afternoon; as the president, she naturally had to attend. Since Jiang Chen's matter wasn't urgent, he hadn't insisted on her coming personally.
"Haha, I think her excuse is just that—an excuse. She probably doesn't want to see you. You’ve been played and don’t even realize it. By the time it gets dark, she likely won't show up with the keys either. Today has been a waste of time. Lin Lin, we should just go back to the hotel; if we delay any longer, we won't have time to decorate your wedding room," Chen Renjing said dismissively.
"Forget it, let's go back," Huang Lin's mother shook her head and said with disappointment. Standing at the entrance of such a high-end community felt embarrassing for all of them.
"Mom, Chen Renjing, let's wait a bit longer. We just got here. Jiang Chen said he would send the keys; he will definitely come through for us," Huang Lin tried to reassure them.
"Daughter, we can't just stand here like this with so many people around. Besides, if this young man's friend is taking so long to arrive, it shows they don't take him seriously either. Even if we borrow the place, they might hold some resentment about it. I think it would be better to just get married at the hotel; it's less hassle," Huang Lin's mother suggested.
"Let's go back; I don't want to stand here in the sun. Several passersby have been looking at us like we're fools. I can't afford to lose face like this; I really shouldn't have trusted this guy's word. Would anyone just lend out a place like Immortal Lotus Garden?" Uncle Huang Lin complained. They all considered themselves respectable people and didn't want to be seen as spectacles under the sun.
The group continued to grumble.
It was afternoon now; although it was October, the weather in Beijing was still somewhat warm. The entrance of the high-end community typically had fewer people around, so when such a large group suddenly appeared, they became particularly conspicuous. The security guards couldn't help but stretch their necks in vigilance.
"How about we wait another ten minutes? If no one shows up with the keys by then, we’ll head back," Huang Lin said helplessly, trying to give Jiang Chen some face.
