As he was lost in thought, another message arrived, this time from the Team Captain:
"Hey man, don’t pay attention to those rumors. We all support you and look forward to your return. The team needs you."
This message was like a ray of light in the darkness, bringing a touch of warmth to Nezha. It turned out that not everyone rejected him; there were still those willing to stand by his side.
The evaluation on the third day took place in a tense atmosphere. The Evaluation Team had added some new faces, seemingly including higher-level experts. Their equipment was more sophisticated, and their questions sharper.
"Based on our preliminary observations," an older expert said seriously, "your abilities indeed carry certain risks. We recommend extending the evaluation period while enhancing control measures to ensure your powers do not spiral out of control."
Nezha felt a chill run through him. "How long will it be extended?"
"It depends on the situation; it could be a month or even longer."
This decision struck him like a bolt from the blue. Nezha had hoped to return to normal life in two weeks, but now it seemed that this timeline could stretch indefinitely. He felt a deep sense of despair and helplessness.
Back in the Observation Room, Nezha could no longer maintain his composure. He sat on the edge of the bed, his hands clasped over his head, feeling as if the entire world was collapsing around him. The campus life he had painstakingly built, his friendships, and even the budding romance he had just begun to explore—all of it might vanish because of this turmoil.
"What have I done wrong?" Nezha asked himself. "Is having these abilities a mistake?"
No one could provide an answer. Outside, dusk deepened, and the campus lights flickered on one by one, accompanied by the distant sounds of students laughing. That was normal, ordinary college life, while Nezha felt forever isolated from that world.
In this moment of despair, he noticed that the ruby on his Time-Space Bracelet suddenly flickered once, then twice, followed by a continuous soft glow. This was an unprecedented phenomenon, as if it were conveying some kind of message.
"Ao Bing?" Nezha whispered softly, hoping for a response.
The bracelet showed no change, but that faint light remained, like a spark of hope in the darkness. Nezha suddenly remembered Ao Bing's words—that no matter what happened, he would stand by his side. This thought brought him some comfort.
Even though they could not meet at this moment, he believed that Ao Bing's heart was with him. This love and trust became his only support in the dark.
As night deepened and silence enveloped him, Nezha lay in bed reflecting on everything that had transpired in these few days—from a joyous New Year’s Eve to now being under isolation observation—life could change so dramatically. He did not know what tomorrow would bring or if he could return to normalcy or even see Ao Bing again.
But one thing was certain—he needed to confront his identity and face all the consequences brought by the label "Demon Orb." Avoidance was not a solution; only by confronting reality could he find a way out.
With this determination in mind, Nezha closed his eyes. In the final moment before drifting into sleep, he felt as if the Time-Space Bracelet had warmed slightly, as if responding to his resolve.
Perhaps somewhere far away, Ao Bing was gazing at the same starry sky, missing him and believing in him.
This thought made Nezha's lips curve into a faint smile as he sank into sleep with a glimmer of hope. In his dreams, he was no longer the isolated "Demon Orb," but just an ordinary college student walking side by side with his beloved.
