Nezha suddenly realized that his words had hurt his father and quickly explained, "Dad, that's not what I meant. I just..."
"Enough!" Li Jing slammed the table. "You’ve never given me a moment's peace! You got into fights as a child, and now that you’re grown, you’re still aimless. Even your work is just a whim! Do you think the world revolves around you? Everyone must take responsibility for their choices, and the choices you’re making now will lead to regrets for a lifetime!"
"Jing, don’t be like this," Lady Yin hurriedly intervened. "We can discuss things calmly; there’s no need to hurt each other."
Li Jing took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions. "Nezha, it’s not that I don’t respect your choices; I just don’t want you to take the wrong path. I’ve seen too many people regret impulsive decisions made in their youth. The opportunity with East Sea Group is rare; at least give it a try. If it doesn’t suit you, it’s not too late to change."
Nezha lowered his head, not wanting to continue the topic. He understood that his father meant well, but his father's idea of "good" was far from the life he wanted. He didn’t want everything arranged for him; he didn’t want a life that was predictable and monotonous. He craved freedom and wanted to pursue his dreams, no matter how unrealistic they seemed.
"I want to go for a walk," Nezha said as he stood up, avoiding his father's gaze. "Just to clear my head."
Without waiting for his parents' response, Nezha quickly walked out of the house. The morning air was fresh and cool, and there weren’t many people on the street yet; only the occasional car broke the tranquility. Nezha wandered aimlessly, his thoughts tangled like a mess of strings.
His father's words were harsh but not without merit. This society was indeed fiercely competitive; without a skill, it was hard to find one’s footing. Aside from playing football, he didn’t seem to have any particularly outstanding abilities. Even if he pursued a career as a Football Coach, he had no idea what the future held or if he could support himself.
On the other hand, Ao Bing's words echoed in his mind: follow your heart and do what you truly want to do. Life is short; don’t waste it on paths dictated by others' expectations.
The two voices intertwined in Nezha's mind, leaving him feeling more lost and pressured than ever.
As he walked, Nezha arrived at a park near his neighborhood. This park was a place he often visited as a child, with slides, swings, sandpits, and a small lawn where he had kicked a ball for the first time.
Now, there were some elderly people exercising and young people walking their dogs in the park. Nezha found a quiet bench to sit on and gazed into the distance, lost in thought.
"Young man, why the long face so early in the morning? Have you run into some trouble?" A kind voice interrupted Nezha's thoughts.
Nezha looked up to see an elderly man with gray hair, holding a Tai Chi Sword, clearly just finished with his morning practice.
"Nothing much, Grandpa. Just... feeling a bit lost," Nezha forced a smile, not wanting to worry the stranger.
The old man sat down beside Nezha and said kindly, "It's normal for young people to feel lost. Why don't you share what's on your mind? Perhaps this old body of mine can offer some advice."
Nezha hesitated for a moment, but seeing the genuine look in the old man's eyes, he decided to voice his confusion. "My father wants me to work for a big company after graduation, saying it's for my future. But I prefer football and want to become a Football Coach. I don't know whether to listen to my father or pursue my own dreams."
