Black Clouds surged towards us, like standing at the center of hell, dark clouds pressing in, forming a massive vortex with a radius of about ten meters around us.
I ran desperately forward, breaking through the ghostly shadows of the Black Clouds, but soon, an even darker and denser wave of black clouds roared towards me.
As that monstrous black cloud howled through my chest, I nearly screamed, feeling an overwhelming force press against my lungs, almost piercing them. But in an instant, the pain vanished, and it felt as if all my strength had been drained away.
Before I could comprehend what was happening, I collapsed to the ground with a thud.
At almost the same moment, the Black Vortex beneath my knees cracked like an Ice Layer, creating several fissures. I hurriedly rolled over, and as soon as my feet hit the ground, a sudden rush of chaotic energy slammed into my back, causing a sharp pain in my lungs that made me cough up blood.
Just then, I heard a series of cracking sounds. Turning around, I saw that the fissures I had previously broken open had now expanded into a massive Spider Web, with black clouds continuously surging up from the cracks below. The direction of the spreading fissures was getting closer to me; within three seconds, they would surely swallow me whole.
I glanced at my senior sister in my arms. We couldn't both perish here; at least one of us had to return to report to our master. But given the current situation, leaving her alone wouldn't guarantee her survival either. It was either we both lived or we both died.
"Alright then, I'll fight with everything I've got!" I shouted, enduring the excruciating pain as I got back on my feet and pushed myself forward with all my might. The crackling sounds behind me were almost on my heels; I dared not look back, completely losing my mind. Each step felt like treading on void-like cotton; I had no idea which step might suddenly lead to nothingness.
But before that could happen, I couldn’t afford to think about anything else. My mind was tightly wound like a string, while everything else was blank. My legs were instinctively reacting in pure survival mode.
There’s a saying: when the King of Hell calls you at midnight to die, who would dare let you live until dawn?
Suddenly, my foot wobbled beneath me, causing my heart to skip a beat. Looking down, I saw a fissure as wide as an arm right next to my left foot. Before my right foot could mechanically land, the fissure suddenly widened and a large hand made of black smoke reached out from below, grabbing my ankle and pulling me into the Ground Fissure.
I had never imagined what hell would be like; someone like me should end up in paradise after death. Thus, I had thought about what paradise might look like—a grand bathhouse shrouded in mist where one could soak comfortably. Ideally, there would be a beautiful girl there to help massage shoulders and knead legs.
“Damn it, what are you grinning about? Open your eyes!” Suddenly, my senior sister's voice whipped past my ear like the wind.
I jolted awake, feeling a chill rush up both sides of my body, sending goosebumps all over me. As I opened my eyes, I saw nothing but darkness. It took me a second to realize that my senior sister and I were in a standard Free Fall Motion.
The Ground Fissure! Right, I had just fallen into the Ground Fissure!
I hadn’t expected it to be so deep below the Ground Fissure, as if it were leading straight to the Earth's Core. At the rate of normal free fall, in three seconds, we must have dropped at least thirty meters.
Just then, a beam of light suddenly shone from my chest; my senior sister had turned on her flashlight and excitedly shouted, “Quick, grab onto the wall over there!”
Without needing her reminder, I saw it too—the wall was about a meter to our left.
I quickly drew my staff. Thankfully, this thing had been pulled from Wang Meng by Cold Bench. I thrust it toward the wall with all my might, producing a sharp screech as the tip of the Three-edged Sword scraped against the surface, sending sparks flying. Finally, after two seconds, it came to a sudden halt, wedged against a protrusion on the wall.
I let out a sigh of relief in my heart; my left arm felt like it was being torn apart. I couldn’t hold this position for long, especially with two people hanging on it. We needed to act.
I signaled to my senior sister to climb over first. She wrapped her arms around my waist; her movements were more agile than mine. A meter might be challenging for an ordinary girl, but for her, it was a piece of cake.
Suddenly remembering her injury, I turned to ask if she was okay, but by the time I looked back, she had already climbed onto the wall. Just then, my staff made a loud “zzzz” sound and slipped out from between the wall cracks. I felt myself drop suddenly and let out a gasp as my heart raced wildly.
“Damn!” Fortunately, my senior sister caught the staff just in time; we were now hanging in mid-air with just a staff's length between us.
As I was still recovering from the shock, I suddenly felt warmth on my face—drops of blood seemed to fall onto me. Looking up, I saw that my senior sister was gripping the Mitsubishi Sword tightly; her hand had been cut by the blade and blood was flowing down along the staff.
The technique to close the Three-edged Sword was located just four centimeters above my left hand at the Horse Eye. I raised my right arm and reached desperately several times but couldn’t touch the Horse Eye. I shouted to my senior sister, “Let go for now… I have a way to get us out.”
My senior sister's right arm was pressed against a protrusion on the wall, while her left arm was being pulled down by the Mitsubishi Sword and me. One foot was braced against the stone wall, and the other dangled in mid-air, her body contorted in a twisted arc, clearly straining to hold on. She said, "Stop talking nonsense... I'm pulling you up, hurry!"
I knew that if we kept stalling like this, neither of us would survive. But letting go was something my senior sister couldn't do, just as I couldn't abandon her. In those final moments, knowing she had this determination was enough for me.
With that thought, I loosened my grip on the staff with my left hand. As my senior sister shouted at me, I began to sink rapidly. But in the next moment, my backside suddenly collided with something hard, and my body was flung backward, landing with a thud on the ground.
Hearing the noise, my senior sister quickly called my name. I looked around and realized I wasn't dead, so I hurriedly responded. My mind raced with a thousand thoughts; all the shock, fear, and disbelief transformed into a wave of joy.
People really are instinctively afraid of death!
I pulled out my flashlight and was relieved it hadn't broken. Just as I tried to sit up, a sharp pain shot through my spine as if it had snapped.
My senior sister asked anxiously, "What happened?"
I waved the flashlight upward. "I'm fine, I'm fine..." When I saw her hanging about ten meters above me at an angle, I cursed under my breath; if I had known we were so close to the ground, I might as well have jumped down together.
I pushed myself off the ground and slowly sat up. Suddenly sweeping the flashlight around, I froze—less than three centimeters in front of me sat a desiccated Gan Shi, its hollow eye sockets eerily staring at me. (To be continued.)
