Ao Bing suddenly lifted his head, his gaze sharp as a bolt of lightning, locking directly onto Nezha behind the bookshelf. The two exchanged glances, and the air seemed to freeze.
"Nezha?" Ao Bing asked in surprise, his voice soft yet strikingly clear in the quiet library.
"Hey..." Nezha awkwardly waved his hand as he stepped out from behind the shelf. "What a coincidence! I didn't expect to run into you here."
Ao Bing's eyes fell on the "Eastern Dragon Mythology Encyclopedia" in Nezha's hands, and he frowned slightly. "Are you interested in Dragon Legends?"
"Um, just... browsing," Nezha replied vaguely. "I have to meet up with the team this afternoon, so I’ll be heading out now. See you back at the dorm!"
With that, he returned the book to the shelf and quickly left the library, leaving Ao Bing looking puzzled.
The afternoon football practice was exceptionally intense, and Nezha threw himself into it, trying to shake off the lingering questions in his mind. He performed even better than usual, earning praise from the coach.
"You’re on fire today, Nezha!" the coach clapped him on the shoulder. "Keep this up, and we’ll definitely win next week’s match!"
Nezha grinned widely. "Of course!"
As practice wrapped up, dusk began to settle in. Teammates left the field in small groups, heading to a nearby barbecue stall for dinner. Nezha initially intended to join them but suddenly changed his mind.
"Sorry, I have something that came up and can’t go with you guys," he said to Chen Yang.
"Something else again?" Chen Yang looked at him skeptically. "It’s not a date, is it?"
"Stop overthinking!" Nezha rolled his eyes. "If there's something important, let's talk about it tomorrow!"
With that, he quickly left the court and headed towards the dormitory. His emotions were a mix of complexity and contradiction. On one hand, he was curious about Ao Bing's identity and the Dragon Legends; on the other hand, he feared that the truth might disrupt the fragile balance they had just established.
Upon returning to the dormitory, Nezha suddenly noticed that the entire building seemed to be engulfed in darkness. "A power outage?" he muttered to himself as he pulled out his phone and turned on the flashlight, cautiously making his way up the stairs.
As he reached the third floor, he suddenly heard a scream from above, followed by the sound of something heavy hitting the ground. Nezha immediately quickened his pace and rushed up to the fourth floor. At the end of the dimly lit corridor, he saw a figure lying on the ground, surrounded by scattered books and papers.
"Who's there?" Nezha raised his phone to illuminate that direction.
In the faint light, he recognized the person—Ao Bing. It seemed he had tripped over something in the darkness and was struggling to get back on his feet.
"Ao Bing!" Nezha hurried over, crouching down to support him. "Are you okay?"
Ao Bing looked up, surprise etched on his face. "Nezha? What are you doing here?"
"I'm heading back to my dorm," Nezha replied while helping Ao Bing pick up the scattered books. "What about you? How did you fall?"
"After the power went out, it was too dark in the corridor, and I didn't notice there was something on the floor..." Ao Bing explained, a hint of pain lacing his voice.
Nezha noticed Ao Bing seemed to be rubbing his ankle. "Did you get hurt?"
"It's nothing, just twisted it a bit." Ao Bing attempted to stand up but stumbled slightly, almost falling again. Fortunately, Nezha was quick enough to grab his arm.
"Don't be stubborn," Nezha said with a frown. "I'll carry you back to the dorm."
