As evening fell, Nezha returned to the dormitory, carrying a large bag. Ao Bing was sitting at his desk, doing homework. Upon hearing the door open, he glanced up briefly before returning to his work, as if nothing had happened.
Nezha walked over to his bed, opened the bag, and began pulling out its contents: a portable Bluetooth speaker, several cans of beer, a pile of snacks, and a game controller.
"What are you doing?" Ao Bing finally couldn't help but ask, his eyes fixed on the cans of beer.
"Getting ready to enjoy a wonderful night!" Nezha grinned widely, deliberately placing the speaker in plain sight. "What's the problem?"
"The dorm rules prohibit drinking," Ao Bing pointed at the cans of beer. "And we need to keep the noise down at night; no loud devices allowed."
"Don't be so uptight, Ice Block Face!" Nezha opened a can of beer and took a big gulp, letting out a satisfied sigh on purpose. "Relaxing once in a while won't kill anyone!"
Ao Bing's brow furrowed even tighter. "Please don't call me 'Ice Block Face.' I have my own name. And rules are rules; they aren't meant to be broken."
"Oh? Is that so?" Nezha challenged Ao Bing with a smirk before picking up the speaker, cranking the volume to maximum, and hitting play.
In an instant, deafening heavy metal rock music filled the entire dormitory, making the walls tremble. Ao Bing was startled by the sudden blast and instinctively covered his ears.
"How about that? Pretty intense, right?" Nezha shouted over the music, his voice nearly drowned out. "This is what it feels like to be alive!"
Ao Bing stood up and walked over to Nezha, reaching out to turn off the speaker. "Please stop this behavior immediately. You're not only disturbing me but also affecting everyone in the building!"
Nezha grabbed Ao Bing's wrist, preventing him from touching the speaker. "Don't touch my stuff!"
The two locked eyes, and the atmosphere instantly became tense. Ao Bing's wrist was slightly pale under Nezha's tight grip, but his gaze remained calm, now infused with an extra layer of determination.
"Let go," Ao Bing said calmly, his voice low yet carrying an undeniable authority.
Nezha was momentarily taken aback by the tone, instinctively loosening his grip. Ao Bing withdrew his wrist and gently rubbed it before saying coolly, "If you continue like this, I will have no choice but to report to the Dormitory Office."
"Report?" Nezha scoffed. "Do you really enjoy snitching?"
"This isn't snitching," Ao Bing corrected him. "It's about maintaining a normal living order."
"Order my foot!" Nezha spat, the music still blaring loudly. "You people only know about rules. Is it really that interesting? Living so stifled is worse than not living at all!"
Ao Bing stared at Nezha for a moment, an emotion in his eyes that Nezha couldn't decipher—perhaps disappointment, perhaps helplessness, or maybe a deep understanding. Then he turned and walked to his desk, gathering his books and stationery.
"What are you doing?" Nezha asked, raising his voice over the deafening music.
"Since you insist on this, I won’t stop you," Ao Bing replied calmly as he packed the necessary study materials into his backpack. "But please allow me to maintain my own way of studying and living. I'm going to the library."
With that, Ao Bing slung his bag over his shoulder and walked toward the door. Before opening it, he glanced back at Nezha. "I hope when I return, this place will be quiet again."
Then he gently opened the door and stepped outside, the sound of the closing door barely audible over the loud music.
