Old Lu had already rolled up his sleeves and was ready to take action, but upon seeing Mo Wen seemingly lost in thought, he paused.
For Mo Wen, Old Lu was like a mentor, even though they had no formal master-disciple relationship. Their bond resembled that of friends. Over the years, Old Lu was the only living person Mo Wen had encountered; he had saved him and guided him in his cultivation, which fostered a sense of dependence in Mo Wen.
That night, Mo Wen sat motionless on a tree stump while Old Lu did not disturb him. Even Xiao Hei lay on its own stump, refraining from bothering Mo Wen. Throughout the night, Mo Wen pondered many things: his origins, who he truly was, and why he found himself in this place. Perhaps Old Lu knew something, but why wouldn’t he share it? Was it because of Mo Wen's weakness? Or was there some deeper secret behind it all? Remembering the dream he had and its circumstances, despite Old Lu's insistence that it was just a dream—one that many Ghoulwood could induce to lead people astray—Mo Wen still found it strange. Was it a memory from before his amnesia? Now, feeling powerless to act, he could only watch helplessly as his mother died at the hands of that monster in his dream. Ultimately, it all came down to his own weakness. The strong must empower themselves; he needed to grow stronger quickly. If he wanted to become powerful, he had to train himself. As Old Lu said, only through battle can one grow stronger. Since Old Lu had allowed him to venture out with Xiao Hei alone, it meant that if he was careful, he could safely navigate through the Cloud Mist Forest. If it were truly a deadly situation, Old Lu would have taken him out long ago instead of waiting until now. With these thoughts clarified, Mo Wen felt a sense of relief wash over him.
“Old Lu, I’ve made up my mind. You were right; even fledglings must learn to fly solo. If I want to grow stronger, I need to experience challenges rather than rely on your protection for my cultivation. Your shelter has made me complacent and dependent on you, which is indeed detrimental. I will follow your guidance and will walk out of this forest alive,” Mo Wen declared, his previous weariness replaced by a resolute gaze as if he had transformed into a different person.
“It pleases this old man to see you come to such clarity after just one night,” Old Lu replied with satisfaction.
“However, before I leave, there are still matters I need your guidance on,” Mo Wen said with a respectful bow.
“Speak then; let this old man see what you require,” Old Lu encouraged.
“It concerns the next Realm and some basic knowledge…” Mo Wen proceeded to ask Old Lu about everything he wanted to understand. Old Lu answered each question thoroughly and even more elaborately than before, avoiding any mention of higher Realms this time.
The next Realm was the Qi Binding Realm. In the Refining Qi Realm Warrior stage, the absorbed and refined Qi is stored within the acupoints or in the lower Dan Tian. Before reaching the Qi Binding Realm, whether for martial artists or cultivators, the Qi in the Dan Tian exists like a chaotic mist—merely gathered together without any structure. The Qi Binding Realm is where this Qi becomes denser and transforms from a gaseous state into a solid form. Within the Dan Tian, a core forms known as the Dan Core. Although cultivators at the Qi Binding Realm cannot yet condense spiritual energy into pills within their Dan Tian, the originally gaseous state gets compressed significantly; thus, the amount of Qi within a Qi Binding Realm cultivator increases severalfold while their Dan Tian further expands.
