Hearing Old Lu's words, Mo Wen's previously sullen face finally brightened. Old Lu had not concealed anything from him, and most importantly, the effects of the body tempering were better than he had anticipated.
Mo Wen emerged from the hot spring, now having reached a minor success in the Golden Body Realm. As he continued to cultivate, he gradually adapted to the various changes brought about by the Yin Yang Principle within him. The pain he once felt had lessened significantly; he could now cultivate without any discomfort. His body no longer bled or emitted foul odors. He had grown accustomed to soaking in the hot spring after his training sessions, and Xiao Hei often joined him. This little creature seemed to enjoy bathing so much that even when Mo Wen was not around, it would come over and sometimes soak for an entire day.
Recently, however, Mo Wen felt a sense of unease, as if something bad was about to happen. This feeling intensified with his cultivation, prompting him to seek Old Lu's advice.
"Old Lu, I've been feeling increasingly restless lately, to the point where it's hard for me to focus on my cultivation. Do you know why this is happening?"
"Well, I’ve sensed it too. Let’s talk about the Ninth Level Golden Body now. Do you know why most cultivators only pursue the Eighth Level Golden Body and avoid the Ninth Level?"
"You mentioned it before; they believe there’s no need to cultivate the Ninth Level Golden Body," Mo Wen replied, puzzled as to why Old Lu was asking him again.
"That is indeed one reason. Once one achieves minor perfection in the Golden Body, they can enter the next realm. But do you know why cultivating the Ninth Level Golden Body carries the risk of failure?"
"I don't know; please enlighten me, Old Lu."
"That's because there is a chasm between the Eighth Level Golden Body and the Ninth Level Golden Body. To achieve the Ninth Level Golden Body, one must undergo Heavenly Tribulation for tempering. You should now understand why I initially refrained from mentioning Heavenly Tribulation to you."
"I understand now; you were worried that I might give up on cultivating the Ninth Level Golden Body out of fear of Heavenly Tribulation." Hearing this from Mo Wen, Old Lu felt relieved.
"Since you understand, I can spare myself some effort in explaining things. Now let’s discuss Heavenly Tribulation. It is undoubtedly a manifestation of the will of heaven and earth. Heavenly Tribulation is divided into Law of Heavenly Tribulation and Life and Death Tribulation. Originally, Life and Death Tribulation also belonged to a type of Law tribulation but is so unique that it only appears in specific realms; thus, it is categorized separately. The known Laws of Heavenly Tribulation include Thunder Law, Fire Law, and Wind Law—what people refer to as Heavenly Tribulation typically pertains to these three Laws, with Thunderfire tribulations being common while Feng Jie is relatively rare. As for why Heavenly Tribulations exist, there are two prevailing theories in the world. Some believe that we cultivators are acting against heaven’s will; thus, when heaven senses a challenge, it unleashes Heavenly Tribulation to eliminate challengers—that's one theory. The other theory posits that Heavenly Tribulation serves as a test from heaven’s will for cultivators; it seems to sift out exceptional cultivators through these trials and reward those who pass."
"So which theory does Old Lu find more reasonable?"
"I think the second theory is more plausible. The first only sees destruction beneath Heavenly Tribulation while ignoring its benefits after overcoming it. However, this isn't crucial for you; you've already faced the Thunderfire test generated by your own Law. Overcoming this Heavenly Tribulation shouldn't pose too much of a problem for you." After hearing Old Lu's explanation, Mo Wen gained a clearer understanding of the Heavenly Tribulation he was about to face.
