Jiang Chen smiled but said nothing.
"By the way, Mr. Jiang, there will be a forum in early October in the capital for the film industry, where many directors will be attending. I can see that you genuinely love movies, and I hope you can support other talented directors as well," Director Zhang continued.

Many talented directors have had to bow to market pressures and make commercial films. If all we have at Huaxia Film are commercial films, then we’re finished. "Director Zhang, no need for such courtesy. As I said earlier, I'm willing to invest as long as there are good scripts and good directors," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
While Jiang Chen and Director Zhang were chatting, Director Zhang's assistant suddenly rushed in and whispered something in his ear.
Jiang Chen wasn't curious enough to listen in; he simply sat on the sofa and enjoyed his tea.
"Mr. Jiang, I apologize, but I need to excuse myself for a moment," Director Zhang said as he stood up apologetically.
"Director Zhang, please go ahead," Jiang Chen smiled.
Director Zhang left the room and returned after a few minutes.
"Mr. Jiang, I want to discuss something with you. I have a friend in the capital whose son is practically my nephew. This nephew's girlfriend is a newcomer in the film industry and wants a role in this movie. Her temperament fits that of the second female lead perfectly, and I'd like her to play that role if possible," Director Zhang said upon returning, somewhat hesitantly.
"That's fine; as long as she fits the role," Jiang Chen replied with a smile. In this society of connections, it was understandable to use backdoor channels within reason.
"Thank you, Mr. Jiang! I'll let her know," Director Zhang said gratefully. His friend was quite influential in the capital, so he had to give this favor.
Outside, Xiao Xin was waiting but showed no signs of joy on her face. She had come for the lead role, so when Director Zhang mentioned that it was already taken and could only arrange for her to play the second female lead at most, she felt very dissatisfied.
No matter how good the second female lead was, she was still just a supporting character.
