Lin Yuan and Zhou Haoran stood back to back in the center of the corridor, facing Han Lingyun and her dozen or so Black-Clad Experts. The air was thick with tension, as if a fight was about to erupt at any moment.
"Lin Yuan, you truly disappoint me," Han Lingyun sneered. "Since you refuse to obediently be my little guinea pig, don't blame me for being ruthless."
Lin Yuan grinned, revealing a set of white teeth. " lord Han, are you planning to personally come down here to teach me a lesson? I'm quite looking forward to it."
A flicker of anger flashed in Han Lingyun's eyes, but she quickly regained her composure. With an elegant gesture, she raised her hand and waved lightly. "Capture them, just don't kill them."
As soon as her words fell, the Black-Clad Experts surged forward like arrows released from a bow. Lin Yuan and Zhou Haoran exchanged a glance and moved simultaneously.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Zhou Haoran's tranquilizer gun fired continuously, each shot hitting its target with precision. However, these experts seemed to have an astonishing resistance to the sedative; although their movements slowed, they continued to press forward relentlessly.
Using his Time Manipulator ability, Lin Yuan darted between his enemies like a wraith. Each strike he delivered was precise, but these experts' physical attributes far exceeded those of ordinary people; even when struck in vital areas, they quickly regained their fighting spirit.
"Did these guys take steroids or something?" Zhou Haoran grumbled while shooting. "How can they not go down?"
Lin Yuan sidestepped a punch aimed at him and countered with an elbow strike that sent the attacker staggering back. "It seems Han Lingyun has conducted quite a few experiments on them. These guys can no longer be considered normal."
At that moment, Han Lingyun suddenly let out a cold laugh. "Did you think this was all there is?"
She abruptly raised the sword in her hand, and a blinding light erupted from the blade. The surrounding air felt thick and heavy, and Lin Yuan and Zhou Haoran immediately sensed an overwhelming pressure bearing down on them.
"This is... Spiritual Pressure?" Lin Yuan exclaimed in surprise as he looked at Han Lingyun. "You can actually control such a vast area of Lingqi?"
Han Lingyun smiled proudly. "What do you think? Surprised? This is my latest research achievement. Within this range, I am a god!"
Before her words could fully settle in the air, the sword in her hand transformed into a streak of light and shot toward Lin Yuan. He attempted to activate his Time Manipulator but found that under this immense Spiritual Pressure, his Golden Finger had inexplicably malfunctioned!
"Watch out!" Zhou Haoran shouted as he suddenly pushed Lin Yuan aside.
"Thud!" The sword pierced through Zhou Haoran's shoulder, instantly staining his clothes with blood.
"Zhou Haoran!" Lin Yuan cried out in alarm as he rushed to support his staggering friend.
Han Lingyun coldly watched the scene unfold, a cruel smile curling at the corners of her mouth. "How touching. But your struggles end here."
She slowly approached Lin Yuan and Zhou Haoran, the tip of her sword scraping against the ground with a piercing sound. Lin Yuan gritted his teeth, scanning the area for any possible escape routes.
At that critical moment, a familiar voice suddenly rang in his ears. "Lin Yuan, catch!"
Instinctively, Lin Yuan reached out, and a small device fell into his palm. He focused his gaze and realized it was a miniature energy generator!
"Su Jiu'er?" Lin Yuan exclaimed in surprise, looking towards the source of the voice. There stood Su Jiu'er at the corner of the corridor, making a "shh" gesture.
Han Lingyun had clearly noticed Su Jiu'er as well. She coldly remarked, "Su Jiu'er, what do you mean by this? Are you betraying me too?"
Su Jiu'er stepped forward slowly, her expression complex. "Sister Han, we’ve taken a wrong turn. This kind of cruel experiment is not what science should represent."
Han Lingyun's anger flared at her words. "What do you know? Sacrifices are inevitable for the advancement of science!"
In that moment of distraction, Lin Yuan suddenly activated the energy generator in his hand. A powerful wave of energy erupted instantly, breaking through Han Lingyun's Spiritual Pressure.
"Now's our chance!" Lin Yuan shouted as the Time Manipulator regained its function. He instantly appeared behind Han Lingyun and struck down with a knife-hand blow aimed at her neck.
However, Han Lingyun's reaction speed was far beyond Lin Yuan's expectations. It was as if she had eyes in the back of her head; she effortlessly dodged this lethal strike.
"Naive," Han Lingyun sneered as her sword lunged toward Lin Yuan's heart like a venomous snake.
At the critical moment, Lin Yuan activated the Material Decomposition feature of the Time Manipulator. Han Lingyun's sword suddenly transformed into a burst of light and vanished into thin air.
"This... how is this possible?" Han Lingyun stared incredulously at her empty hand.
Seizing the opportunity, Lin Yuan lunged forward and delivered a heavy punch to Han Lingyun's abdomen. She let out a muffled groan and staggered back several steps.
"You think you're the only one with trump cards?" Lin Yuan scoffed. "The game is over, Han Lingyun."
However, Han Lingyun suddenly laughed out loud, "End? No, this is just the beginning!"
She tore open her clothing, revealing a strange tattoo on her chest. The tattoo seemed to come alive, emitting a blinding light.
"This is... an ancient rune?" Su Jiu'er exclaimed, "Sister Han, have you lost your mind? That thing will consume your life!"
Han Lingyun laughed maniacally, "For power, what is this little price to pay? Lin Yuan, let me show you true power!"
As her words fell, the entire base began to shake violently. The metal plates on the walls started to twist and deform, and the ground cracked open with menacing fissures. Han Lingyun's body slowly floated up, enveloped in a bizarre black glow.
"This is bad!" Lin Yuan's expression changed drastically. "She’s going to detonate the entire Energy Core of the base!"
Su Jiu'er hurriedly ran to Zhou Haoran's side, helping him stop the bleeding. "Lin Yuan, we must stop her! Otherwise, the whole city will suffer!"
Lin Yuan took a deep breath, a look of determination flashing in his eyes. "I understand. You all retreat first; I’ll handle her."
"But..." Su Jiu'er wanted to say more but was interrupted by Lin Yuan.
"Trust me." Lin Yuan flashed a confident smile. "I’m the protagonist with the Golden Finger."
Su Jiu'er glanced at Lin Yuan and finally nodded. "Alright, we’ll wait for you outside. You must come back alive!"
With that, she supported Zhou Haoran and quickly left the Core Area of the base.
Lin Yuan turned around to face Han Lingyun, who was now completely shrouded in dark power. At this moment, Han Lingyun was unrecognizable as a human; she resembled a swirling mass of black mist.
"Lin Yuan... die!" Han Lingyun's voice became distorted and terrifying as black tendrils extended from her body, lunging toward Lin Yuan.
Lin Yuan activated the Time Manipulator, skillfully weaving between the tendrils. While dodging the attacks, he observed Han Lingyun’s transformations, searching for possible weaknesses.
Suddenly, he noticed that the rune on Han Lingyun's chest was flickering continuously. With each flicker, her power surged even more.
"Now I understand!" Lin Yuan's mind stirred. "That rune is the source of her power!"
With this thought, Lin Yuan no longer hesitated and charged towards Han Lingyun. Black tendrils rained down upon him, but under the influence of the Time Manipulator, Lin Yuan always managed to evade deadly attacks at the last moment.
"Are you crazy?" Han Lingyun sneered. "Are you seeking death?"
Lin Yuan ignored her taunts, focusing intently on the rune. When he was just a step away from Han Lingyun, he suddenly activated the Material Decomposition function!
"No!" Han Lingyun let out a piercing scream.
The rune instantly transformed into a burst of light and dissipated into the air. Without its source of power, the dark energy within Han Lingyun began to spiral out of control. Her body swelled violently, as if it would explode at any moment.
Lin Yuan knew this was his last chance. He took a deep breath and fully activated the Time Reversal Function of the Time Manipulator.
Time seemed to come to a standstill. Lin Yuan felt his consciousness rapidly rewind, the scenes before him playing out like a rewinding film. Han Lingyun's body gradually returned to its human form, and the dark energy slowly receded.
When everything returned to normal, Lin Yuan found himself standing in front of Han Lingyun. At that moment, she was still in the pose of tearing her clothes open, the rune on her chest flickering with an eerie glow.
Before Han Lingyun could react, Lin Yuan lunged forward and grabbed the rune!
"Ah!" Han Lingyun let out a chilling scream as her body flew backward like a kite with its string cut, crashing heavily against the wall.
At that moment, the entire base began to tremble violently. Metal plates from the ceiling clattered down, and the ground cracked open with gaping fissures.
Lin Yuan knew that the base was about to collapse. He glanced at Han Lingyun, who lay on the ground, barely conscious. After a moment's hesitation, he turned and ran towards the exit.
Just as he was about to burst through the base's main door, he suddenly heard a faint call from behind him: "Lin... Lin Yuan..."
He turned back to see Han Lingyun reaching out to him with her last ounce of strength. Her eyes were filled with reluctance and confusion, as if she wanted to say something.
However, before she could utter a word, a massive metal plate fell from above and crashed down upon her.
Lin Yuan paused for a moment, then shook his head and dashed out of the crumbling base.
As he reached a safe distance, the entire structure collapsed with a deafening roar, sending up a cloud of dust.
Su Jiu'er and Zhou Haoran were anxiously waiting outside. When they saw Lin Yuan emerge unscathed, both let out a sigh of relief.
"Lin Yuan!" Su Jiu'er exclaimed joyfully, "I'm so glad you're okay!"
Zhou Haoran smiled weakly, "I knew you were tough."
Lin Yuan gazed at the fallen base, a complex expression crossing his face. "Yeah, I survived. But..."
He didn't finish his sentence, aware that behind Han Lingyun's death lay an even greater secret.
Just then, a piercing siren echoed from a distance.
"Oh no!" Su Jiu'er’s expression changed. "It's the Qi Yun Investigation Bureau! We need to get out of here fast!"
Lin Yuan nodded and helped Zhou Haoran up. "Let's go; I know a safe place."
The three quickly vanished into the night, leaving behind the wreckage of the base and countless unresolved mysteries.
