Lin Yuan, Su Jiu'er, and Zhou Haoran cautiously navigated through the dense jungle, the roars of wild beasts and the chirping of insects echoing in their ears. Following the guidance of the Indigenous Leader, they finally discovered Han Lingyun's secret base—a modern building concealed within the mountain walls in a dimly lit valley.
"It seems that old man wasn't lying to us," Zhou Haoran whispered, excitement gleaming in his eyes.
Lin Yuan frowned as he surveyed their surroundings, feeling that everything was proceeding too smoothly. "Don't let your guard down," he warned. "That crazy woman Han Lingyun must have set traps inside."
Su Jiu'er nodded, her slender fingers gently brushing over the Ancient Compass hanging at her chest. "I sense a strange Spiritual Energy Fluctuation," she murmured, "as if something is interfering with my perception."
At her words, Lin Yuan clenched his fists. He knew that entering the building meant facing unknown dangers. But to uncover Han Lingyun's conspiracy, they had no choice.
"Alright," he took a deep breath, "let's stick to the plan. Zhou Haoran, you handle monitoring and communications; Su Jiu'er, use the compass to lead the way; I'll cover our rear."
The three exchanged silent nods before stealthily infiltrating the base. With Zhou Haoran's high-tech equipment, they easily avoided most surveillance cameras and patrolling guards. However, just as they were about to approach the Core Area, Su Jiu'er suddenly stopped, her face paling.
"What’s wrong?" Lin Yuan asked alertly.
Su Jiu'er bit her lip, her brow furrowed. "I sense a strong Spiritual Energy Fluctuation," she said softly, "not far ahead. But... this Lingqi feels unusual; it seems artificially distorted."
Lin Yuan's heart sank as he realized what this meant. "Han Lingyun might have discovered us," he said grimly. "We need to move faster."
Just then, Zhou Haoran suddenly exclaimed, "Oh no! Our warning system has been compromised!"
Before he could finish his sentence, chaos erupted throughout the base. A piercing alarm blared all around them, the ground began to shake violently, and countless Laser Beams shot from the ceiling and walls, weaving into a deadly net.
"Damn it!" Lin Yuan cursed as he quickly activated the Time Manipulator. In his perception, time seemed to slow down. He grabbed Su Jiu'er and Zhou Haoran's hands, guiding them to dodge the lethal lasers.
However, even with the Time Manipulator's help, they were forced apart. Lin Yuan watched helplessly as Su Jiu'er was swept away by an eerie force of spiritual energy, disappearing around a corner; meanwhile, Zhou Haoran was surrounded by a group of heavily armed guards.
"Lin Yuan! Go!" Zhou Haoran shouted as he activated his High-Tech Protective Suit. "I can handle this!"
Lin Yuan gritted his teeth, filled with reluctance. But he knew that finding Han Lingyun and stopping her plot was now paramount. With a heavy heart, he turned and sprinted towards the Core Area.
As Lin Yuan dodged the Laser Beams and Mechanism Traps, his clothes were torn in several places, blood dripping down his arms. But he couldn't afford to pay attention to that; he was fully focused on searching for Han Lingyun's whereabouts.
Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a partially open door. Instinctively, he darted inside and found himself in a concealed chamber. In the center of the room stood a massive computer, its screen flashing with dense streams of data.
Lin Yuan quickly scanned the information on the screen, his expression growing increasingly grim. These were all pieces of evidence linking Han Lingyun with the higher-ups of the Qi Gong Association, along with detailed records of her illegal Lingqi experiments. The most appalling were a series of inhumane experiments conducted on living subjects.
"Oh my God..." Lin Yuan murmured, filled with anger and disgust.
At that moment, a cold voice rang out behind him: "Well, it seems our little mouse has stumbled upon something he shouldn't have."
Lin Yuan spun around abruptly to see Han Lingyun standing at the doorway, a mocking smile on her face. Behind her stood two imposing figures—Zhao Yunyi and Lv Fengyue.
"You lunatics!" Lin Yuan shouted furiously. "How can you do such things to innocent people?!"
Han Lingyun laughed disdainfully. "Ignorant fool. Sacrifices are necessary in the pursuit of ultimate power. These test subjects volunteered; they dedicated themselves to scientific progress."
"That's nonsense!" Lin Yuan retorted sharply. "You're just toying with lives!"
Han Lingyun shrugged indifferently. "Say what you will. However, since you've seen this, don't blame me for being rude." She turned to the two behind her. "Capture him; I want to teach him a lesson myself."
At her command, Zhao Yunyi and Lv Fengyue lunged at Lin Yuan. He quickly activated the Time Manipulator, trying to evade them. However, to his shock, Zhao Yunyi was using a technique strikingly similar to his own!
"How is that possible?!" Lin Yuan exclaimed.
Han Lingyun smirked triumphantly. "Surprised? This is one of the results of our experiments. Zhao Yunyi can now replicate anyone's abilities."
Lin Yuan gritted his teeth and braced himself against Zhao Yunyi's assault. Meanwhile, Lv Fengyue began to unleash her Lingqi manipulation abilities; the air around them warped as countless illusions appeared before Lin Yuan's eyes.
"Damn it..." Lin Yuan cursed under his breath, feeling his judgment slipping away under the interference.
In that critical moment, Lin Yuan suddenly recalled the mysterious old man and the Cloth Bag he had given him. He quickly pulled out a stone engraved with strange runes from his pocket and crushed it with a fierce grip.
A powerful wave of energy instantly spread out, dispelling the illusion created by Lv Fengyue. Seizing the opportunity, Lin Yuan activated the Time Manipulator again, this time expanding the area of suspended time to encompass the entire room.
In that brief moment of stillness, Lin Yuan quickly devised a plan. He noticed a control panel in the corner of the room, likely the core of the entire base's mechanisms.
As time resumed its flow, Lin Yuan dashed toward the control panel. Han Lingyun, witnessing this, shouted urgently, "Stop him!"
But it was too late. Lin Yuan summoned all his strength and smashed another rune stone against the control panel. With a deafening boom, the room plunged into darkness, and the alarms and mechanisms fell silent.
Taking advantage of this moment, Lin Yuan swiftly escaped from the secret chamber. He knew he had to find Su Jiu'er and Zhou Haoran quickly and flee this cursed place.
However, just as he was about to turn the corner of the hallway, a familiar figure blocked his path.
"Lin Yuan, you have disappointed me greatly," a gentle yet icy voice echoed.
Lin Yuan's eyes widened in disbelief as he stammered, "Su... Su Jiu'er? How could you...?"
Su Jiu'er smiled, but there was no warmth in her expression. "I'm sorry, my dear. I've been waiting for this opportunity." She slowly raised the Ancient Compass in her hand. "Now, it's time for you to accept the truth."
Lin Yuan felt a wave of dizziness wash over him as his consciousness began to fade. Just before succumbing to darkness, he faintly heard Han Lingyun's triumphant laughter: "The real show is just beginning, my dear little mouse."
