In order to quickly gain knowledge about the Chimera from Old Lu, Mo Wen was determined and spent a sleepless night pondering. Just before dawn, he finally came up with two dishes. As soon as the sun rose, he took Xiao Hei into the mountains to gather ingredients for his cooking. It seemed that Old Lu had been waiting for Mo Wen's new dishes, as he only emerged from his little wooden cabin when Mo Wen finished cooking, just in time for the dishes to be placed on the tree stump. 0

"Old Lu, could you tell me about the Chimera?" Mo Wen asked, gesturing towards the dishes he had just prepared. 0

"Weren't we supposed to talk another day? Why the rush?" Old Lu replied, trying to suppress his drool while feigning indifference. However, his eyes were fixed on the tree stump, particularly on the two new dishes. 0

"I think it's better to seize the day. If you don't tell me, I can't relax. If I can't relax, I won't be able to cultivate, and if I can't cultivate..." Mo Wen said thoughtfully, observing Old Lu's demeanor. 0

"Alright, seeing as you're so eager to learn, I'll tell you about it today. But..." 0

"Old Xie Lu, there's no need to rush. You can eat first and then share," Mo Wen interjected. 0

"Well, that's more like it. Let Old Man finish eating before I explain it to you," Old Lu said before darting over to the tree stump. 0

"Uh... now that Old Man is looking at this meal, I'll tell you about the Chimera..." Old Lu began after a hearty burp. 0

Although humans occupied five continents, they only inhabited a small portion of them. To minimize losses, people clustered in towns that were heavily fortified with high walls and armor. Even though human activity had gradually expanded to establish small towns and scattered villages, the protection of their living areas remained paramount. The overlapping high walls symbolized their fear of attacks, which significantly restricted human development. The root cause of this situation was the Chimera. 0

In this world, Chimeras were a unique existence; they had bizarre forms—some resembled beasts, others looked like humans, and some appeared just like flowers and trees in the mountains. There was no consensus on how Chimeras came into being; some believed they were born from the primal chaos of this world and were an integral part of it. Others thought that excessive killing disrupted the original cycle of reincarnation, causing various beings' souls to fail to reincarnate in time and thus giving rise to Chimeras. Their main argument was based on the fact that most Chimeras had strange or even formless shapes and fed on living souls. 0

Of course, some believed that Chimeras were a means of invasion from another world and were controlled by some unknown beings. However, this view was less accepted compared to the first two theories because historical records showed that although this world had faced invasions over thousands of years, there was no evidence indicating that Chimeras were under the control of those invaders; rather, those invaders also fell victim to Chimera attacks. Some insisted on this belief, arguing that such circumstances arose because the invaders who controlled Chimeras had yet to arrive. Ultimately, regardless of which speculation one subscribed to, none had conclusive evidence proving their viewpoint correct. 0

Regardless of how Chimeras originated, their threat to known races was a very real issue. Due to Chimeras, all known races could only gather in specific areas while outside those zones lay desolate wilderness and forests. "Don't go out after dark; there are Chimeras outside," became one of the most common warnings parents gave their children. 0
