Old Lu dragged Mo Wen through the forest, claiming he was looking for opportunities for Mo Wen to train. However, such places were not easy to find, and the two continued on their way.
With Old Lu around, Mo Wen rarely had the chance to fight. Most Demon Beasts would flee at the mere hint of Old Lu's overwhelming aura, leaving only a few unruly ones for him to educate.
After successfully entering the Refining Spirit Realm, Mo Wen regained his confidence and no longer considered himself a failure in cultivation. However, due to the lack of suitable Refining Spirit materials, his progress was very slow. He could only hone his skills through various extreme environments like volcanoes, ice mountains, and Deep Water Pools.
Sitting cross-legged on a large stone by the river, he wasn't practicing but rather staring blankly at the Dahe River before him. After some time training, Old Lu brought him back to the small wooden cabin. According to Old Lu, he had reached a bottleneck; continuing to practice would be futile. It would be better to return and enjoy a life of drinking, eating meat, and sleeping—perhaps this would help him break through his limitations. Now he hoped for some fortuitous encounter that could accelerate his cultivation speed because he yearned for strength.
That night, Old Lu woke Mo Wen from his sleep.
"Mo, your opportunity has come," he said.
"What opportunity?" Mo Wen's eyes lit up at the mention of fortune. His time with Old Lu had been incredibly fruitful; as Old Lu put it, he was just short of scraping the ground clean.
"Let’s go; I’ll take you to Long Experience." With that, Old Lu lifted Mo Wen and set off.
An hour later, they stood atop a mountain peak. Old Lu had already retracted his aura long before and returned to his appearance as an old man on the street. Looking down into a nearby valley, they saw a peculiar grove of trees. Under the moonlight, it was clear that this grove was entirely different from its surroundings; all the trees were Blood Red—both their trunks and leaves exuding waves of Blood Light. After the Blood Light faded, Blood-colored Mist began to rise from within the grove, thickening and spreading outward while emitting a strong Blood Stench. This stench attracted nearby Beasts rushing into the valley to confront the mist. As soon as the mist touched a Beast, it seemed alive, enveloping it completely until it vanished as if swallowed whole. The sounds of Beast roars echoed from within the mist until gradually fading away; even the trees tainted by the mist turned Blood Red.
Mo Wen stared in astonishment at the scene in the valley; such a peculiar grove existed in this world! Sensing Mo Wen's surprise, Old Lu began to explain: "This is a Red Tree, a type of Chimera. It’s a stationary Chimera that hunts on nights of a full moon. Since it cannot move, its hunting is limited to a certain range; as long as you don’t enter its hunting area, you’ll be fine."
"So many Chimeras—it’s terrifying!" Mo Wen exclaimed.
"No, there’s only one Chimera here; you can tell just by looking."
The slaughter in the valley continued as the moon climbed higher in the sky. The roars gradually faded away while the blood mist began retreating toward the center of the grove. Rather than retreating, it seemed to be drawn toward a particularly vibrant tree at its center. This tree stood out vividly against its surroundings but was much shorter than its companions; if one didn’t observe closely or notice its bright color, they might easily overlook its presence.
