The copper box was first discovered here, Nakamura's voice came from above. They had been digging air raid shelters when they accidentally uncovered this underground city. But what truly shocked them was
the monsters he controlled descending before us: this city's legacy dated back at least ten thousand years.
"Impossible!" Jiang Zhendong exclaimed. "How could there be such advanced city planning ten thousand years ago?"
"Unless," Miho pondered, "it wasn't built by humans."
The air suddenly grew heavy with tension. I looked again at those ancient runes and noticed a detail this time: the structure of certain symbols bore an astonishing resemblance to molecular formulas in modern science.
"They were studying blood," I said. "Not with modern technology, but through some ancient method."
"Exactly," Nakamura replied. "That's why we are searching for people with special blood types. This blood carries the codes of an ancient civilization. And through sacrifice—"
"You are trying to activate these codes," Li Yang interrupted him, "to recreate the power of that civilization."
Just then, the energy fluctuations in the vortex intensified sharply. We saw two forces beginning to form some kind of pattern, like chains dancing in the air.
"It's happening!" Nakamura shouted excitedly. "Genetic resonance!"
The runes began to glow, forming circles of light that extended downward. The ground cracked open, revealing a bottomless underground space.
By the light of the runes, we witnessed a breathtaking scene: massive buildings stood underground, resembling both pyramids and modern skyscrapers. All the structures were made of some unknown metal, their surfaces etched with runes identical to those on the copper box.
"Do you see?" Nakamura said. "This is their legacy. And now, it's time to awaken the sleeping ones."
But I noticed a warning on the last page of my father's notes: never fully open it; otherwise, they will awaken.
"Who are they?" I asked.
"You'll find out soon enough," Nakamura replied. "Look, the welcoming ceremony has begun."
The pyramid in the center of the underground city lit up, countless points of light climbing along its surface patterns. As the lights spread to the tip of the pyramid, a blinding beam shot skyward.
"This is bad!" Li Yang's face changed dramatically. "They are activating the gene bank!"

Before he could finish, a deafening roar erupted from the depths of the earth. We watched as the surface of the pyramid began to peel away, revealing a translucent structure within.
Through the crystal-like exterior, we witnessed a chilling scene: countless massive incubation pods arranged inside, each floating a humanoid being. Yet their forms were clearly not human.
"It's too late," Li Yang said. "They are awakening."
The incubation pods began to open one by one, and an indescribable whisper echoed in the underground space. I saw those beings open their eyes—pairs of eyes filled with intelligence yet hauntingly unsettling.
In this moment of impending doom, I suddenly remembered that my father's notebook had a hidden compartment containing a note. It bore only a brief message:
"To seal them away, one must reverse life and death."
