"I don't want to be a Cook; I want to become a master and beat those bad guys until they can't get up," Mo Wen declared. 0

The Old Man replied, "I think being a Cook is quite good. You have the potential for it, and with someone like me, a world-renowned master, guiding you, if you learn my true teachings, you can also become a famous Cook... Fighting isn't fun at all." 0

"I still want to be a master..." Mo Wen insisted. He aspired to be a master, at least as skilled as Old Lu. However, he knew nothing about what it meant to be a master. Old Lu hadn't told him what kind of realm one needed to reach to be considered a master; he only mentioned that there are always stronger individuals and that one must remain humble and cautious, or else they would end up beaten badly. 0

"Old Lu, do you think I'm ready to enter the next realm?" Mo Wen shifted the topic from becoming a Cook to asking Old Lu about the next realm. 0

"Well, your Refining Body is complete, so you can indeed consider moving on to the next realm. Today, I'm feeling pleased, so I'll give you some guidance. Do you know what the next realm is?" Old Lu asked. 0

"I only know that after Refining Body comes Refining Qi. As for what Refining Qi entails and its significance, I have no idea. Please enlighten me, Old Lu," Mo Wen said as he sat cross-legged on a tree stump and shook his head. 0

"Refining Qi is about drawing the ambient energy into your body to make it stronger. This energy is called Lingqi, which is the purest form of energy in this world. Lingqi exists everywhere in nature; you can even absorb it while breathing," Old Lu explained. 0

"Then doesn't that mean everyone can absorb Lingqi? Why do we need to refine Qi then?" Mo Wen asked, puzzled. 0

"Although Lingqi is scattered throughout the world, ordinary people can only absorb a small amount into their bodies. For instance, right now you have some Lingqi inside you, but it's very little and doesn't last long enough for you to feel any significant effects. Refining Qi involves using Lingqi to transform your body. The Refining Qi Realm has three stages: Drawing Qi, Refining Qi, and Transformation of Qi. The name of the second stage comes from Refining Qi itself. Drawing Qi means guiding Lingqi into your body; Refining Qi means refining the Lingqi you've drawn in so that it becomes usable energy that strengthens your vitality; Transformation of Qi means retaining this refined energy in your body to slow its loss. If you can't retain it, your body will suffer from insufficient vitality. To keep the energy inside, you must open the three Dantians. That's all there is to the Refining Qi Realm; it's actually quite simple. If you get the first step right, the rest will follow smoothly..." 0

"Does that mean if I succeed in Refining Qi, I can consider myself a master?" Mo Wen asked excitedly. Having often gone hunting in the mountains, he felt discouraged but was eager to hunt Demon Beasts. To him, being able to hunt Demon Beasts meant he should be considered a master. He didn't care much about what level of Demon Beast it was; first and foremost was his ability to kill them. He believed that as long as he kept getting stronger, he would eventually be able to defeat higher-level Demon Beasts. 0

"You’re thinking too much," Old Lu said dismissively. 0

"Succeeding in Refining Qi only makes you a slightly stronger ordinary person; among martial artists, it means you've gained internal energy. What martial artists refer to as internal energy is actually transformed qi," Old Lu waved his hand dismissively. "I didn't tell you before, but the Refining Body Realm you're currently in is a small realm within a larger stage called the Warrior Stage. People in this stage are known as martial artists. The Martial Realm includes four realms: Refining Body, Refining Qi, Refining Spirit, and Unity. You've just completed Refining Body and think you're already a master? That kind of thinking is dangerous; one misstep could lead to dire consequences..." Old Lu glanced at Mo Wen, who had visibly deflated at his words. 0
