I smiled reassuringly at everyone and began to explain, "Thank you all for your concern, but there's no need for us to intervene in this matter."
Someone asked, "What are you planning to do, Brother Ming? Give us a clear answer!"
I smiled faintly and replied, "Let's boost the popularity of that video!"
With some maneuvering at the company, the video's popularity skyrocketed. It quickly climbed to the top of the regional trending list and by evening, it had entered the provincial trending charts.
Perhaps sensing the enthusiasm from countless netizens, my mother posted several more videos overnight. With her current level of popularity, she no longer needed my help to promote them; the views just kept climbing. I initially didn't care, but when I saw one of the videos, I was utterly enraged.
She had crossed my line!
In the video, she portrayed my father as a blind man who abused her, while my grandmother—who had passed away before I was born—was depicted as a wicked mother-in-law who insulted her after giving birth to my sister. She painted herself as a complete victim, claiming that after both her husband and mother-in-law died, she often came to care for me and my sister and even begged for money on her knees when my sister fell ill.
In the video, she was tearfully declaring herself a great mother.
How dare she! Has she lost her mind?
I slammed my phone onto the ground in fury and rushed into the kitchen, grabbing a knife as I charged outside.
I was going to take down that malicious woman!
“Liu Ming! What are you doing?” A booming voice rang in my ears.
I turned to see uncle Wang! How did he get here?
Before I could react, he had pinned me to the ground, gritting his teeth as he shouted, “Calm down! You need to calm down! It's not worth it to go out there and confront her!”
“ uncle Wang! Let me go! I’m going to kill her!” I struggled and yelled, but instead of breaking free, he held me tighter.
uncle Wang pressed down on me and continued, “Think about your dad! Think about your sister! They want you to be okay!”
Those words struck me like thunder in my mind. I could almost see my sister smiling at me and saying, “Brother! You have to be okay!” After saying that, she turned and ran toward Dad. He took her little hand in his, they looked back at me with smiles before walking away into the distance.
Watching their figures fade away, I could no longer hold back my cries: “Dad! Sister! Don’t leave me behind!”
I reached out as if trying to grab them, but uncle Wang held me firmly in place. I pleaded with him in desperation: “ uncle Wang! Let me go! Please let me go!”
But it was as if he didn’t hear me; uncle Wang continued to hold me tight. I could only lie there helplessly as I watched Dad take my sister further away. She bounced along happily beside him, chatting away; they looked so joyful but never turned back to glance at me again.
Their figures gradually blurred until I stopped struggling altogether. When they finally disappeared from sight, I smiled.
uncle Wang finally released me. I lay on the ground for a long time without getting up, staring into the darkness ahead with a smile that resembled that of a madman.
Have I gone insane?
I’m not crazy!
But that woman has lost her mind! If she’s gone mad, then she should pay a heavy price!
uncle Wang stayed behind; not only did he remain, but he also called in a few colleagues to take turns watching over me because I had gone wild again. After being released back into the kitchen, I grabbed the knife again, and when it was snatched away from me, I looked for an axe.
When I saw the room filled with Public Security Officers, I finally gave up. I quietly returned to my room, picked up my phone from the floor, and nodded in satisfaction; it wasn’t broken.
I unlocked the screen, opened a background program, and posted a few messages before turning off the phone and lying down. Listening to uncle Wang ’s voice outside as he arranged for security patrols, I closed my eyes.
I’m sorry, uncle Wang; this time, I can only make use of you!
