The time in our second year of high school flew by quickly, filled with intense studying and sweet romance. Before we knew it, we had arrived at the last semester of our second year.
The emotions of parting began to quietly permeate the air. Senior year meant heavier academic burdens, fiercer competition, and… different choices for the future.
Lu Xingyan's grades had always been among the top in our class, with aspirations for a prestigious university in the country, and even the possibility of studying abroad. As for me, although my grades had improved significantly, I still fell short in comparison to him. My goal was to attend a decent art academy in our city.
We both tacitly avoided discussing the future too much, choosing instead to cherish every moment we spent together in the present.
On the last weekend before the final exams, we didn’t go to the library as usual; instead, we visited the rooftop where we first "bared our hearts" to each other.
The sunset was still beautiful, painting the sky in vibrant shades of orange and red. A gentle breeze blew, bringing with it the unique warmth of a summer evening mixed with the scent of fresh grass.
We leaned against the railing side by side, gazing into the distance just as we had when we first met here.
“Time really flies,” I couldn’t help but sigh. “It feels like just yesterday we started school, and I accidentally hit you with my book.”
Lu Xingyan looked down at me, his eyes filled with a tender smile. “Yeah, that left quite an impression.”
“At that time, I thought you were really fierce, like a big iceberg,” I stuck out my tongue. “I never expected…”
“Never expected what?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Never expected that an iceberg could melt and actually be… quite warm,” I said softly, my cheeks warming up a bit.
He chuckled lightly and reached out to gently ruffle my hair, his gesture natural and affectionate. “Only warm towards you.”
In that moment, my heart was instantly filled with warmth from his words.
After a brief silence, I couldn’t help but speak up again. “Lu Xingyan, senior year… you’ll be really busy, right?”
He turned his head to look at me seriously. “Yes. So will you.”
“Then…”
“Don’t worry,” he interrupted me, taking my hand tightly in his. “We’ll work hard together.”
His gaze was firm and sincere, infusing me with boundless strength.
“I know that the road ahead may hold many challenges. We might end up in different cities or even… different countries.” He looked into my eyes, his tone unusually solemn. “But Xia Zhi, please believe me.”
“Believe what?”
“Believe that my feelings for you won’t change because of distance or time.” Each word was clear and powerful. “No matter where we are in the future, I will strive to return to your side. Or perhaps, we will go to the same place together.”
Tears unexpectedly welled up in my eyes—not from sadness but from deep emotion.
This boy who is not good at expressing himself gave me the most firm promise with the simplest words. I nodded vigorously, sniffed, and said with a smile: "Okay, I believe you. Let's work hard together!" Under the setting sun, he leaned over and kissed my forehead gently. The warm touch, like an eternal brand, is deeply engraved in my heart. I know that High School Life is about to come to an end, and our Campus Chapter is about to turn over. But this is not the end, but a new starting point for us to run towards the future together. From that Opening Day full of "disasters" to the current heart-to-heart agreement, Lu Xingyan is like a dazzling star, accidentally crashing into my plain Youthful Night Sky, lighting up my entire summer and illuminating my future path. The future is still long, but I know that as long as we hold each other's hands and hold this sweet agreement that belongs only to us, we will be able to overcome all obstacles and eventually meet again in a wider world and walk side by side. The story of Xia Zhi and Lu Xingyan is not finished yet and will be continued.
