"Yun Li," she said, "be serious."
In three months, when the baby arrives, it will be November, and winter will still be upon us.
Listening intently, Yun Li pulled out her phone to search for baby names for November. The screen displayed names for Scorpio babies.
"Do you think Scorpios have bad personalities?" she asked.
Jiang Shiyu glanced down, snatching the phone from her hands. "No more phone for now," he said. "Why can't you come up with a nice name?"
After a moment of thought, Jiang Shiyu suggested, "How about we each come up with a character? We can combine them."
Yun Li agreed. "If it's a winter baby, let's call it Dumpling!" She hastily decided on the nickname for their little one.
Though Jiang Shiyu thought the name wasn't very appealing, he didn't argue; it was better than nothing.
"What do you think of the character 'Frost'?" Yun Li proposed.
Jiang Shiyu nodded in agreement.
"Can you take this seriously?" Yun Li complained.
Jiang Shiyu feigned innocence. "I am serious. What about 'Sunny'?"
This time he paused for two seconds before responding, "Sure."
"And what about 'Quiet'?"
"That's a lot! Are you trying to come up with a four-character name?"
Yun Li toyed with the buttons on his shirt and replied earnestly, "I'm just giving you some options."
She smoothed out the collar of his shirt and suddenly had a bright idea. "How about 'Sunny Winter' for a boy and 'Jing Shuang' for a girl?"
Jiang Shiyu yawned. "Sure, if you like it."
Yun Li felt he wasn't taking it seriously enough and frowned. "You're so dismissive."
Jiang Shiyu kissed her forehead. "Just choose what you like. If I had to pick, I'd go with 'Jiang Yun' or 'Yun Jiang,' or maybe 'Jiang Dong.'"
Unable to hold back her laughter, Yun Li replied, "I'll stick to naming it myself! I'm afraid Little Guy will think you're outdated."
Jiang Shiyu smirked. "Well, if it's outdated, at least it's from his dad. Having a name is good enough."
When Shu learned about the nickname, she was shocked.
"What era are we in? How can you still pick such an old-fashioned name?"
Yun Li pouted. "Isn't Dumpling a nice name?"
My daughter’s nickname is Cherry. How is your Little Maruko?
Jiang Shiyu chuckled, “So plain.”
Let’s just go with Dumpling.
That night, the more Yun Li thought about the name Dumpling, the stranger it felt to her. She got out of bed and pulled Jiang Shiyu along to come up with a new nickname.
Jiang Shiyu ruffled his hair, making it messy. He regretted mentioning it to Shu beforehand; it only complicated things.
He decided to take out his phone and search for names. The two of them spent the whole night but still couldn’t find a suitable one.
Bored, Jiang Shiyu flipped through the calendar, estimating when Little Guy would make his appearance. Looking at the calendar marked with Dongzhi, he glanced at Yun Li, who was deep in thought.
How about Dongzhi? Or maybe Lidong?
Yun Li pondered for a few seconds and said, “Let’s go with Dongzhi! It’s perfect since we eat dumplings on Dongzhi.”
He smiled; that made sense. Finally, they could get some sleep.
As he lay down with her, Yun Li started to fidget again, her hand slipping under the hem of his shirt.
Jiang Shiyu caught her hand and said in a hushed voice, “It’s late; we should sleep.”
Yun Li nudged him playfully, “No! The doctor said it’s fine.”
Jiang Shiyu firmly held her close without moving. Yun Li began to unbutton his shirt with her teeth, her lips brushing against his warm skin.
He lifted her chin and kissed her fiercely as if to punish her. “Don’t tease me.”
With a chance to slip her hand inside, she was eager.
Jiang Shiyu lowered his gaze, quietly watching her mischief unfold. His long fingers brushed aside her hair, gently caressing her earlobe.
Yun Li blushed and hugged him tightly, urging him to hurry.
Jiang Shiyu chuckled softly, rubbing the back of her head before kissing her forehead. His voice was low and hoarse, his eyes filled with desire. “Gentle? Or a bit rougher?”
Yun Li bit her lip and smiled mischievously. “Let’s see how it goes!” She wasn’t sure if she could handle the rougher approach.
An hour later, Jiang Shiyu put on pants while leaving his upper body bare as he headed to the bathroom.
Yun Li lay there breathless and satisfied. When Jiang Shiyu returned with a towel to clean her up before heading back into the bathroom for himself, she had waited so long that she dozed off.
Half an hour later, Jiang Shiyu finally emerged. Seeing the peaceful and content woman sleeping, he couldn’t help but smile.
He leaned in and pinched her cheek, whispering, "You seem quite satisfied, while I’m the one suffering."
During her pregnancy, they couldn't engage in too much intimacy, and what he desired was too much for Yun Li to handle. As a result, Jiang Shiyu would hastily finish each time, satisfying himself before heading to the bathroom to take care of his needs. This left him feeling unfulfilled for a long time.
It was in the evening when Yun Li began to feel something was off with her stomach. After taking a shower and preparing for bed, she suddenly sensed something wasn’t right. Jiang Shiyu, realizing this, immediately took her to the hospital. Deng Ting and Yun Zheng drove another car to bring everything they needed to the hospital.
Jiang Shiyu remained calm throughout the journey, but when he saw Yun Li enter the delivery room, he finally broke down. Dressed in a thin nightgown, he stood outside the delivery room, trembling and frozen in place. Yun Zheng and Deng Ting hurried over and draped a coat over him.
Feeling a wave of fear wash over him, Jiang Shiyu's lips turned pale as he stared at the door. The longer he looked, the drier his eyes became, and soon red veins appeared around them. Yun Zheng urged him, "A Yu, sit down and wait."
In a shaky voice, he replied, "Dad, I can't sit down; it's more reassuring to stand." Shu Chengzhou, Qin Nianchu, and Peng Qingyu also arrived. His grandfather was old and hadn’t told him about this.
Images of Yun Li sitting in the car flashed through Jiang Shiyu's mind—her frowning and sweating while bleeding. The more he thought about it, the greater his fear grew; it felt as if his legs were no longer his own, pinned down by something heavy like layers of cement.
Inside the delivery room, Yun Li followed the doctor's and nurses' instructions to push. Fortunately, her physical condition was good, and after two hours, she delivered successfully.
"The little guy is here!" a nurse called out. "Who is the family member of Yun Li?"
Jiang Shiyu didn’t see Yun Li move; he only turned his gaze when he heard them mention her family. Yun Zheng and Deng Ting stepped forward. "We are Yun Li's parents."
Jiang Shiyu shifted his stiff legs and asked the nurse anxiously, "How is my wife?"
The nurse smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry! Your wife is about to come out; it’s a boy! Congratulations!"
Jiang Shiyu only registered part of what she said and nodded blankly. When Yun Li finally emerged, he moved his feet to follow her bed.
Yun Li's forehead was drenched in sweat; her lips were pale and she looked exhausted. She glanced at him with red-rimmed eyes and forced a smile. "What’s wrong with you? You look more tired than I do after giving birth."
Jiang Shiyu pressed his lips together without replying; instead, he leaned in to kiss her forehead gently. "What do you want to eat? I can have Mother Wang make something."
Yun Li shook her head. "I just want to sleep."
"Alright then, sleep!"
Everyone else fell silent at her request for rest, happy not to disturb her. Jiang Shiyu took it upon himself to care for Yun Li; they hadn’t even had time to look at their little boy yet.
Yun Li asked him softly, "Is it a boy or a girl?"
Jiang Shiyu got up and looked at Deng Ting and Yun Zheng. "Mom, Dad, is it a boy or a girl?"
Deng Ting replied happily, "It's a boy! Our little Dongzhi is so handsome, just like his father."
Yun Zheng, however, said, "I think he looks like Hao Hao."
Grandpa chimed in cheerfully, "No, no, he looks like me!"
Yun Li, not daring to laugh too loudly, playfully scolded, "It's been so long, and you still don't know if it's a boy or a girl?"
Jiang Shiyu's eyes remained on her as he wiped her face and hands. "Do you want some soup?"
Yun Li nodded. "Yes, some chicken soup to regain my strength."
They would be discharged in four days. The house was bustling with activity as many relatives came to see Dongzhi. Yun Li wanted to hold him, but Jiang Shiyu wouldn't allow it.
"First, let’s make sure you’re healthy," he insisted.
Yun Li thought he was overreacting. "I’m perfectly fine now; I can hold him for a bit."
The other relatives laughed at the exchange.
"A Yu said, “Relax a bit; don’t be so tense. Hao Hao is healthy; holding him for a moment is fine.”
"We have good taste in choosing partners," Xiao Ying added. "When we look for boyfriends in the future, we should use this standard."
This was the first time Jiang Shiyu saw Hao Hao up close. He took the baby from his relatives' arms and looked at Little Guy, finding him somewhat unattractive.
He asked Yun Zheng and Deng Ting, "Mom, Dad, I didn’t grab the wrong one, did I?"
Everyone burst into laughter at his question.
"No mistake; newborns look like this," they assured him.
Jiang Shiyu handed Dongzhi over to Yun Li. As she looked at him, she felt an incredible sense of wonder—she had brought a person into the world.
Jiang Shiyu gazed down at the two of them, a smile unconsciously spreading across his lips as a strange feeling blossomed in his heart. It seemed that their family was now more complete than ever.
Deng Ting took a family photo of the three of them. Yun Li held Dongzhi while sitting in a wheelchair, wearing a colorful plush hat. Her complexion was rosy, her eyes still bright and sparkling, but there was now an added softness that belonged to motherhood.
Jiang Shiyu stood beside her with a gentle smile on his face, his hand resting on Yun Li's shoulder. With a click of the camera, the moment was captured forever.
