This was the price from back then, and now it’s estimated to have multiplied several times. If Yun had known that this Necklace was so valuable, she wouldn’t have left it in the warehouse for so many years. She thought it was worth just over a thousand, but she had underestimated him.
That evening, Deng Ting and Yun Zheng arrived. As soon as they entered the house, they were greeted by the spotless living room and the well-behaved Yun standing before them. The two of them sat down with serious expressions, and Yun eagerly went to pour them some water. “Mom, Dad, I just bought this flower tea today; you should try it.”
Yun Zheng took the cup but didn’t drink from it. He set it down and got straight to the point. “Alright, we don’t want to hear you say anything nice about him. No matter what your reasons were for breaking up, that’s all in the past now. You two are not suited for each other, so don’t contact each other again.”
This was the first time Yun Zheng spoke without any room for negotiation. It left Yun at a loss for words, her throat tightening.
Deng Ting nudged him with his elbow, signaling him to let Hao Hao speak. “Hao Hao, come sit,” Deng Ting beckoned her over. Yun reached out and shook hands with her before sitting down beside her.
“Don’t blame your dad for being blunt; it’s just the truth. I used to think that Jiang’s boy wasn’t bad, but since you two broke up, it shows you’re not meant to be together. If you’re not compatible, there’s no need for any entanglement.”
“Mom, we had misunderstandings before,” Yun interjected.
Yun Zheng turned to her and asked, “What misunderstandings? What kind of misunderstanding could last for so many years?”
Deng Ting sighed and shot him a glance. “Why are you so impatient?”
Yun Zheng huffed and crossed his arms, falling silent.
“Has that misunderstanding been resolved now?”
Yun nodded. Deng Ting looked at her softly and asked, “Have you forgiven him?”
Yun lowered her gaze, her long lashes casting shadows over her eyes.
Seeing her silence, Yun Zheng couldn’t hold back any longer. “If you haven’t forgiven him, then there’s really nothing more to say. Hao Hao, we shouldn’t be too picky; finding someone with four legs is hard enough; there are plenty of two-legged ones around.”
Yun couldn’t help but laugh at his words. “Dad, let me finish what I was saying!”
Deng Ting chimed in, “Exactly! Can you try to be a little less impulsive?”
Yun Zheng sighed in exasperation. “Aren’t I just worried? You saw how upset we were back then; we were almost hurt because of him! That’s something I’ll remember for a lifetime.”
A back injury can completely end a dancer's career, and Yun Zheng felt this deeply; it was a thorn in her heart.
“Dad, it wasn’t all for him back then. I didn’t adjust my mindset properly. I wanted to quickly move on from my breakup, throwing myself into work and forcing myself not to stop. I forgot to take care of myself. I’m sorry for making you worry.”
As Yun spoke, her eyes began to redden, feeling increasingly guilty towards her parents. She thought she had hidden her feelings well, but in reality, they had long been exposed; they were worried about her in silence.
“Mom understands you. It’s tough to deal with your first love and heartbreak. We should have guided you better back then.”
Yun Zheng rubbed her temples and sighed. “Hao Hao, we never pry into your relationships. When the time is right, you’ll naturally bring someone home. It’s Jiang Shiyu who’s the problem; after all these years, he still comes looking for you because he thinks you’re easy to manipulate.”
“It’s not like what people say online—going around in circles only to find that you’re still the good one, suitable for settling down. We won’t be the ones to pick up the pieces.”
Deng Ting clicked her tongue. “What have you been watching all day? Let Hao Hao explain the misunderstanding before you make any decisions.”
Yun Da summarized the situation regarding Jiang Shiyu and his parents but didn’t mention how they used their family status to threaten her.
“That’s quite something,” Deng Ting said, exchanging glances with Yun Zheng. It was their first time witnessing such a power struggle among wealthy families, comparable to a novel's plot.
“Back then, he couldn’t protect you; what makes him think he can now?” Hao Hao interjected but was cut off by Deng Ting.
“Alright, alright! So you want to play the villain now?”
“I’m not trying to be the villain! With his family situation, doesn’t Hao Hao have to live in fear?”
Deng Ting replied, “Didn’t you say he has several million? He must have won some battles.”
Fearing an argument would break out between them, Yun quickly interjected, “Mom and Dad, he has handled it well.”
Deng Ting turned to Yun Zheng. “Did you hear that? Can you let him finish speaking before jumping in? Why is your temper getting worse as you get older?”
Yun Zheng shared her thoughts: “I just don’t like him.”
“Hao Hao, don’t mind him. You two take your time; there’s no rush. Mom won’t stop you from spending time together. If it comes to marriage, both Mom and Dad agree that we don’t approve for now. We need to see more of him.”
Yun sighed in relief and nodded, lying in Deng Ting's embrace. “Thank you, Mom.”
Yun Zheng huffed in dissatisfaction from the side.
Yun smiled back at her daughter. “And thank you too, Dad.”
