Jiang Shiyu didn't go back; Yun wandered outside for a long time before returning to the Jiang residence.
In the afternoon, several people chatted leisurely in the garden. The old man was particularly happy today; the lively atmosphere and the company of others were what Old Jiang had always wished for.
Yun's mood remained low, and Old Jiang noticed it. He turned to her and asked, "Hao Hao, are you feeling bored?"
Yun Zheng straightened up at the sound of his voice and instinctively replied, "No."
Old Jiang smiled and said, "Do you like reading? I have many books here for you to enjoy."
Yun nodded, "I do."
Old Jiang stood up and led her to the study. Upon entering, Yun was taken aback by the sight of so many books—various literary works from both domestic and international authors.
Jiang Zesheng chuckled, "Feel free to read whatever you like. If you find any rare books that you love, Grandpa will gift them to you."
"Thank you, Grandpa Jiang. I just want to browse," Yun replied, her gaze sweeping over the shelves filled with an overwhelming number of titles.
Jiang Zesheng sat down in a chair, watching her with increasing fondness, thinking how nice it would be if she were his granddaughter.
"Hao Hao, did you just talk to that boy A Yu?" he asked suddenly.
Yun paused, turning to look at Jiang Zesheng in surprise.
"Don't be nervous; I know all about your past with him," he reassured her. "I discovered it by chance. That boy has no intention of hiding it since he started dating you; he's been boasting about having a girlfriend named Yun, with the nickname Hao Hao."
"Jiang Ci," who was his uncle's son, has been pestering everyone to meet you. You should have met him when he came looking for A Yu during summer vacation."
"I've met him a few times; Jiang Ci is quite nice," she said.
"I felt regret when I saw you two together before, and I also felt sorry for you. That boy is spoiled and has a bad temper; it must have been hard for you being with him."
Yun shook her head. "He's actually quite good."
"I didn't expect him to come home today; don't take it to heart, Hao Hao."
"Grandpa, it's been so long since all that happened; I've already moved on."
Old Jiang nodded, though he was unclear about the details. He had heard that the two were having a difficult time. Jiang Shiyu didn’t want him to get involved; after all, he was retired and lacked the energy to manage such matters. He only offered one piece of advice: don’t do anything you might regret.
He didn’t show up until dinner time. At the dining table, Yun Zheng asked where Jiang Shiyu had gone. Old Jiang replied, “That brat is probably out messing around again. No matter where he is, he won’t starve.”
After dinner, the family left. Just as their car pulled away, Jiang Shiyu returned home. Seeing him, Old Jiang said, “There’s still food at home; let’s eat together.”
Jiang Shiyu nodded, but remained silent at the table while Old Jiang sipped his soup and observed him. “Hao Hao has already moved on; you should too! Stop dwelling on the past,” Old Jiang advised.
Jiang Shiyu stared blankly at his food, not responding. He picked at his meal for a bit before heading upstairs.
The next day, He Lin Cheng arrived, and Yun took him to meet Yu Meng. Yu Meng and He Lin Cheng knew each other from a previous competition. They took him around Jiangzhou to visit local attractions and some old shops that didn’t require waiting in line.
By noon, Yu Meng mentioned she had something to attend to and couldn’t accompany them anymore, so the trio became a duo.
Yun led He Lin Cheng to her favorite old shop for lunch. The decor wasn’t great, but there were plenty of seats inside, and it was bustling with customers at lunchtime. They found a window seat and sat down as a server came over to tidy up the table.
Suddenly, a familiar voice called out to Yun, “Hao Hao! What are you doing here?” She looked up to see her parents walking in hand in hand, glancing over at her and He Lin Cheng.
Deng Ting's eyes lit up while Yun Zheng wore a stern expression. Deng Ting nudged Yun Zheng’s arm and approached them with a grin. “Are you two on a date?”
Yun stood up, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Mom, what date? We're just having a meal together."
He Lin Cheng stood up politely and greeted, "Hello, Uncle and Auntie. I am Yun's senior and also her partner."
