You have been watching my every move from the shadows, yet you dare not show yourself in front of me. Why is that? Do you still have feelings for me?
Jiang Shiyu only answered the last part of her question: "Yes, I do."
Then what was the reason for our breakup? She pressed on.
Jiang Shiyu clenched his fists and closed his eyes. After a long pause, he said, "Hao Hao, I will explain it to you later."
Yun felt her heart sink. She turned away, tears streaming down her face, quickly wiping them away. "I don't need it anymore."
Jiang Shiyu, I don’t want to like you anymore, she said calmly.
He had been there all these years, claiming to know about her struggles while remaining an outsider watching her suffer. In truth, she had sensed it from the beginning; she knew Jiang Shiyu had his reasons. What she couldn’t understand was why he was unwilling to face challenges together with her.
Each of his attitudes had shattered her heart time and again, extinguishing any lingering hope. She became uncertain and trapped in a cycle of anxiety that only deepened over time.
It wasn’t until she accidentally spotted Jiang Shiyu following her abroad that her suspicions seemed to find an answer. She began to wait for him to come forward and explain everything.
But as the years passed without any explanation, she felt it was no longer worth it. Now, she didn’t care what reasons he had; he had kept silent for eight years without revealing a single word while she endured the pain for eight long years.
How many eight-year spans can one afford to waste in life?
Jiang Shiyu's heart trembled violently as something within him surged forward uncontrollably. He rushed forward, trying to grab her arm, but Yun sidestepped him, turning away with tear-filled eyes, resolute yet weary. "Jiang Shiyu, don’t follow me anymore. Let’s not meet again."
"I don’t hate you. The resentment I felt before has vanished at this moment."
"I still want you to be well—truly well—just as your life and career have thrived in these years without me. You’ve achieved all your dreams."
"I am insignificant."
Jiang Shiyu shook his head and stepped closer, gripping Yun's shoulders. His voice trembled involuntarily. "Without you, I can’t be okay."
"Hao Hao, you still like me, right? I still have a chance?" His eyes were bloodshot and filled with pain, revealing a vulnerability that belied his usual pride. In that moment, he cast aside his dignity in search of an impossible answer.
Yun looked into his eyes, her heart aching with every breath. "I don't like you anymore."
"You’re lying." Anger, unwillingness, and fear all coalesced in that moment.
Yun struggled to push him away. "Let go of me, Jiang Shiyu. Let go."
At that moment, Jiang Shiyu could not accept that Yun wanted to sever all ties with him, to never see her again. He couldn't bear to imagine such a scene.
He held her tightly, inhaling her unique fragrance, feeling her presence still there.
Only then could he find some peace; the fear of losing her would lessen just a bit.
Suddenly, Yun stopped struggling. The two of them stood in place for a long time.
As their tumultuous emotions calmed, she spoke coolly. "Jiang Shiyu, do you remember when we traveled to Liangzhou together? In Libo County, there were so many people at Yueyaba that we couldn't even squeeze in."
"I really wanted to take pictures to capture the moment, but I ended up giving up."
"I said I didn’t want to wait because there were still many beautiful sights left to explore."
"Our relationship had already ended eight years ago; you let it go yourself. I don’t want to wait any longer."
"You’re not worth me giving up on other better people. I’ve missed the beauty along this journey for eight years; I don’t want to make the same mistake again."
At that moment, it felt as if her heart had stopped beating. The blood in her veins felt frozen. It was early spring, and the warm sun was dispelling the chill, yet the coldness that had nowhere to hide surged from him, seeking a new refuge.
As the tension eased, Yun stepped out of his embrace and entered the bedroom, closing the door behind her. The hotel suite was spacious, but it couldn’t compare to the emptiness in his heart.
Jiang Shiyu fled back to the country from Paris overnight and sat alone in a bar drinking.
The owner watched him closely, fearing he would get drunk again.
It wasn’t until Chi Zhi Yu arrived that the owner finally left.
