"I want to make it clear that I will not allow you to manipulate me. My feelings and my life do not permit your interference. After fighting against you for so many years, I can continue to stand my ground," he declared.
The old man sneered dismissively, "You can fight, but what about her? Is she willing to take risks with you?"
Jiang Shiyu stood up and cast him a sidelong glance, a smirk playing at the corners of her mouth, bold and defiant. "Do you even know what love is, you heartless old man?"
Infuriated, the old man rose to his feet, slamming his palm on the zitan wood table. "You insolent brat!"
Jiang Shiyu leisurely walked towards the exit. "Old man, I'm not here to give you face today. This is my final visit."
With that, she left him fuming, his face a kaleidoscope of purple, red, and green.
Yun Li had been exhausted from rehearsals lately; as soon as she returned to the dormitory, she fell asleep. Mid-November marked the competition time at the Hangzhou Grand Theatre.
On the flight to Hangzhou, Yun Li told Jiang Shiyu to turn off her phone. Upon arriving in Hangzhou, those who had never been there were unusually excited. Yun Li joined everyone for a brief outing before returning to the hotel.
Everyone was preparing for the competition the next day. As Yun Li organized her position, she felt a sense of urgency despite having practiced hundreds or even thousands of times. She needed to find her rhythm again; stepping outside for some fresh air helped clear her mind before she returned to practice.
The next day, they were ready to head to the Grand Theatre. Once on-site, they began their makeup routines in a bustling area filled with activity. Contestants started familiarizing themselves with their movements and even styled their own hair.
Judges sat in the audience—renowned dancers from the industry. The dance drama they were performing was set against the backdrop of gentle Southern women’s lives in Jiangnan, featuring beautiful melodies and delicate expressions that conveyed deep emotions; even a mere silhouette could evoke tenderness and elegance.
The performance lasted seven minutes and thirty-six seconds. With rich stage experience, Yun Li was more than capable of handling such competitions; she had been immersed in performing since childhood and had always received praise from teachers for being born for the stage.
The team's ability to convey emotional shifts was strong, and their formations were impeccably synchronized, exuding an unspoken momentum. Even as gentle Southern women, they possessed an independent spirit.
After the competition, everyone secretly breathed a sigh of relief. There were a total of thirteen performances.
Yun Li took out her phone and messaged Jiang Shiyu. After more than ten minutes, she received a reply: "Just got out of class. How did the competition go?"
"It was okay. I feel like we performed much better than usual today," Yun Li replied.
"When will the results be announced?"
Yun Li responded, "It'll take some time."
After all the performances were over, Yun Li was taken by her teacher to meet one of the judges. The teacher introduced her, saying, "This is Yun Li, the talented kid I told you about."
Teacher Ma, a man in his forties dressed in a gray suit, looked at Yun Li with approving eyes. "I've heard you mentioned her before; it's nice to finally meet you."
Yun Li politely greeted him, "Hello, Teacher Ma."
"Hello! Your Dance Drama performance was impressive. I have high hopes for you all. Keep up the good work, young people!"
After chatting for a while, they parted ways. The scores had already been recorded when the Dance Drama ended, but the results would not be announced until a month later.
Yun Li was pulled along to hang out and relax. The three girls enjoyed their time on the street, eating and drinking happily. Suddenly, a short and thin man appeared and snatched one of the girls' bags.
