Without waiting for her to explain, Deng Ting spoke decisively, "After a while, when your mother is less busy, we’ll go visit your boyfriend."
"Mom, what are you talking about?" Yun Li exclaimed in shock.
"We're not against you dating. If you truly like him and want a long-term relationship, your father and I need to see what kind of guy he is. If you're not serious about it, just pretend we didn’t say anything. You young people can have fun, but be careful and protect yourselves, okay?"
Yun Li paused, realizing the key point: they wouldn’t oppose her being with Jiang Shiyu. A smile crept onto her lips as she felt a bit embarrassed. "Then I need to discuss this with him. You can’t just show up out of the blue! That would be so scary."
"Alright, alright, just ask him now," Deng Ting insisted.
"Mom, he can't come tomorrow; he's studying at the Space Launch Center and won’t be back for another month."
"Space Launch Center? What a high achiever!" Guo Dongliang chimed in.
Deng Ting scoffed, "Look at you being so unambitious."
Despite her words, Deng Ting turned back and said, "That kid is so smart; our future children’s intelligence will be guaranteed."
Yun Li felt a mix of embarrassment and anger. "How can you talk like that? Mom, what are you two thinking?"
"I’m hanging up; I won’t talk to you anymore. I’ll ask him tomorrow."
"Okay, then get some rest," Deng Ting replied.
After hanging up the phone, Yun Li's heart was still racing with excitement. She exhaled deeply and then smiled brightly.
The next day, when Jiang Shiyu had some free time, they chatted on the phone for a while. As they were about to hang up, Yun Li hesitated before saying, "Um, my parents want to meet you."
During their video call, Jiang Shiyu's relaxed smile suddenly faded as he turned serious.
Seeing his abrupt change in demeanor made Yun Li think he was unwilling. "My parents don’t mean any harm; they just want to see you."
Jiang Shiyu’s tone became more formal. "Alright, let me prepare a bit when I get back."
"You don’t need to prepare much; it’s just a casual meal." Seeing that he didn’t seem opposed eased Yun Li’s tension a little.
It was still necessary to prepare; they had to choose a restaurant and not let their uncles and aunts feel neglected.
Yun Li chuckled softly, "It's not like we're getting engaged; there's no need for so much fuss. My parents are very laid-back."
Jiang Shiyu's eyes sparkled with amusement, "Even so, we should still prepare for an engagement."
Yun Li was pleasantly surprised that he would think that far ahead, feeling both happy and excited inside.
Nearby, Qin Nianchu and Chen Jin Xiu approached, their tones exaggeratedly dramatic. "Oh my, you're getting engaged! You really need to prepare!"
With that, the two of them began to act it out.
Chen Jin Xiu knelt on one knee, taking Qin Nianchu's hand and speaking in a high-pitched voice filled with affection, "My dear, will you marry me?"
Qin Nianchu dramatically covered her mouth, her eyes darting around as she pretended to wipe away nonexistent tears. "I would love to marry you!"
Yun Li was speechless and swatted their hands apart. "You two have gone too far; that's just mean!"
The two burst into laughter, rolling around in amusement.
Jiang Shiyu couldn't help but laugh at their bizarre antics. "You two should definitely come to my wedding; you'd be a hit on the Dolphin Show!"
Qin Nianchu crossed her arms defiantly. "Hmph! Are you treating us like monkeys?"
"Exactly," Chen Jin Xiu chimed in.
After hanging up the phone, Jiang Shiyu went to the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror.
He fiddled with his hair when suddenly Qin Nianzhe burst in, hands covering his lower half as he urgently exclaimed, "Bro, move aside! I can't hold it anymore!"
Jiang Shiyu continued talking to himself, "Do you think I should try a trendy hairstyle?"
"Oh come on!" Qin Nianzhe groaned. "You don't need a hairstyle; you're already incredibly handsome without one! You could pull off a bald look!"
Jiang Shiyu shot him a sidelong glance.
Qin Nianzhe quickly closed the door, fearing he might return. Finally free, he sighed in relief and felt utterly comfortable.
