"Two bowls of Beef Noodle Soup, please."
Sitting on a wooden bench, the restaurant had a simple decor, yet it was bustling with customers. There was a drinking fountain at the entrance for patrons to use, and each table had a pack of tissues.
The Beef Noodle Soup was smooth, with a rich and flavorful broth, and the beef had a layer of tendon that Hao Hao enjoyed. Was it really possible to find such high-quality food in a random place?
Jiang Shiyu took a sip of the soup and felt warmth spreading through his body; the taste was indeed delightful.
In August, the air in Liangzhou wasn't overly hot; instead, there was a cool breeze that made the sunlight feel warm and comfortable rather than harsh.
The two of them headed to a famous attraction in the area, said to be a playground for Liangzhou locals since childhood. There were quite a few monkeys around.
Jiang Shiyu rented a car to drive there, parking at the foot of the mountain. Outside the park, there were many food stalls, and people were gradually filling the spacious square. The ticket price was surprisingly low.
Yun Li exclaimed once again, "Such a tall and beautiful mountain with animals to see, and it only costs this much? What a bargain!"
Jiang Shiyu held her hand and looked down at her. "Our Hao Hao has great taste; he picked a treasure of a travel destination."
When they initially planned their summer trip, they had taken out a map to decide where to go. Yun Li pointed at Liangzhou, known for its karst landscape, saying she wanted to see if it was truly filled with mountains everywhere.
Yun Cheng happened to be nearby as well.
The mountains and forests surrounding them provided Yun Li with sensory stimulation; what she read in books turned out to be true—there was no flat ground for miles; perhaps they were standing on a mountaintop.
Most of the paths here were uphill, and after about ten minutes, both of them felt their legs growing sore.
Moreover, the monkeys they encountered along the way surprised and frightened Yun Li. The further they went in, the more monkeys appeared.
As they approached the zoo area, the hillside was filled with monkeys. Many of them boldly crossed the road without fear of humans.
Yun Li felt both scared and unable to resist watching the monkeys.
Jiang Shiyu looked down at Yun Li, who was clutching his shirt and hiding behind him. "Don't be afraid; they won't attack you."
Just then, a little monkey dashed out from behind and snatched Yun Li's bag away.
Yun Li instinctively gasped and immediately let go. Jiang Shiyu's expression darkened as he pulled Yun Li into his embrace. Although the bag was taken, no one was hurt; the monkey began rummaging through it, prompting other monkeys to join in as well.
Yun Li was astonished. Had this monkey really become a spirit?
The people around her, likely locals, seemed unfazed. Speaking in the dialect of Liangzhou, one of them said, "Don't be afraid. Once it finds food, it won't bother you. Just don't provoke it; monkeys hold grudges, so be careful it doesn't bite you."
Yun Li and Jiang Shiyu didn’t understand every word, but they got the gist. Sure enough, when they saw there was nothing inside, the monkeys scattered.
Jiang Shiyu grabbed her bag. It was unharmed, so she took out her ID and lipstick and tucked them into her pocket, leaving the bag behind. She didn’t want to risk another monkey coming to snatch it away.
Yun Li nodded. Her face had paled from the scare, but now it had returned to a more normal color. After all, the bag wasn’t expensive; she certainly didn’t want to be bitten by a monkey over it.
She surveyed the people around her—mostly locals, old and young alike—who either had nothing in their hands or were just holding a bottle of mineral water. Was it because monkeys didn’t drink mineral water?
The mountain air was cool. Tired from walking, Yun Li decided to take a break on a nearby bench while gazing at the branches and the tall, sturdy trees on the slope. The scenery here was quite beautiful, except for the abundance of monkeys.
Jiang Shiyu wrapped an arm around her shoulders and gently rubbed her back with her fingers. "It's fine; the locals said as long as we don’t provoke them, we’ll be okay. Let’s go to the zoo later!"
A zoo?
Yes, there was a zoo nearby, and she had heard there were quite a few different kinds of animals.
Yun Li marveled again at how this place was truly a hidden gem with everything one could imagine. She had thought that monkeys were all there was here, and she couldn’t help but laugh at her own assumptions.
After their stroll, Yun Li felt a bit tired but wanted to check out a temple that was said to be at the mountain's peak.
The temple wasn’t large but was bustling with worshippers. Nestled among the trees, its surroundings added an air of tranquility and ethereality. The thick scent of incense wafted through the air, carried by the mountain breeze into her nostrils.
