The words made the Old Director even sadder, his head drooping as he let out a soft whimper, his snow-white ears hanging low. Jiang Shiyu sat down by the bed and gently patted the Director's head. The Director licked his palm, looking both obedient and pitiful.
"Mom doesn't dislike you; she's just afraid of you. Be a little more well-behaved and don't get too close, okay?"
The Director was no ordinary Samoyed; he was quite perceptive and understood Jiang Shiyu's words, responding with a couple of soft barks. Jiang Shiyu led the Director to his doghouse to sleep.
Jiang Ci, with wide eyes and a serious expression, said, "Brother, I need to wake up early tomorrow. I want to go out with the Director to buy nice things for Sister."
Jiang Shiyu rarely retorted him this time. "You take the Director to the flower shop and bring back some flowers. Your sister-in-law likes flowers."
Jiang Ci nodded but then yawned, tears forming at the corners of his eyes as he stretched out his hand, speaking in a soft, sweet voice, "I'm sleepy. Brother, hold me while I sleep."
Jiang Shiyu shot him a cool glance and stood up. "Hao Hao, you can sleep by yourself. Call me if you need anything."
Jiang Ci pouted unhappily. "Then I'll go find Sister to hold me while I sleep."
With that, he tried to get out of bed to go to Yun Li's room. Jiang Shiyu clicked his tongue in disapproval and walked to the door, placing his hand on the switch. "You just scared her; don’t bother your sister-in-law."
Feeling dejected, Jiang Ci still obediently nodded. "Oh, okay! Goodnight, Brother."
"Mm."
The next morning at nine o'clock, Yun Li's biological clock rang on time. She slowly woke up, washed up, changed her clothes, and prepared to practice her morning exercises.
Carefully opening the door, she glanced around but saw no one. After stepping outside, she looked around again before heading into Wu Fang's room.
After practicing for an hour, she quickly took a shower and came out in casual clothes. They still hadn't returned; she wondered where they had gone.
Yun Li took out her phone to call Jiang Shiyu. After ringing for quite a while without an answer, she heard the sound of a key turning in the lock.
She immediately became alert.
Jiang Ci walked in first, holding a white plastic bag in his hand and flashing a bright smile at Yun Li. "Good morning, Sister!"
"Good morning!" Yun Li replied cheerfully.
Jiang Shiyu entered, carrying a lot of items, including vegetables and some daily necessities.
Jiang Ci set the things down and walked over to stand in front of her. "Sister, the Director and I went to buy a gift for you. Don't be afraid; the Director won't bite."
Yun Li peeked inside, wondering if the Director was at the door. She nodded in response.
Jiang Ci turned around and called out, "Director, come in quickly."
The Director slowly walked in and saw Yun Li staring wide-eyed at him, while her dog looked back at her. Yun Li felt her hair stand on end from nervousness.
She smiled, greeting the Director, who immediately responded with an angelic smile. Yun Li felt a little less tense as she was charmed by his demeanor.
It was then that she noticed he was carrying a bouquet of pink tulips on his back.
Her eyes lit up. "Did you buy these?"
Jiang Ci nodded. "Yes, the Director and I picked them out together. I'm sorry for scaring you yesterday, Sister. This is to make amends. Can you forgive me and the Director?"
With their big, innocent eyes gazing up at her, Jiang Ci and the Director made Yun Li's heart melt.
She reached out to pat Jiang Ci's head. "I’m not upset with you two. Thank you for the flowers; I really like them."
The Director tilted his head, wanting to be petted as well.
Yun Li shyly smiled but didn’t have the courage to do so.
The Director's ears drooped in disappointment.
