Since I can remember, his scandals have never ceased. My mother abandoned me to a nanny when I was four or five years old. She often traveled for work, had no time to care for me, and sometimes even despised me.
Yun Li's pupils contracted in shock, overwhelmed by the revelation. Soon, a sharp pain spread through her heart, as if someone had gently scraped a piece off from the outside, causing a piercing ache, with blood slowly seeping out. Tears welled up in her eyes.
He often brought women home, and my mother would dismiss them like beggars, giving them a large sum of money to leave. From a young age, I was taught to be obedient and adhere to family rules; every detail mattered, even how to eat, sleep, and drink—all had to be done with the Shi Family's decorum. Even when mistresses showed up at our door, I had to put on a dignified smile and handle the situation gracefully because if it got out, it would bring shame to the Shi Family.
A hot tear fell from Yun Li's eye, while Jiang Shiyu remained unfazed, wiping her tears away. I had seen my grandfather hit my mother; no matter how swollen her face became, she had to bow her head and not utter a word of complaint. This is why I despised everything about the Shi Family and loathed Jiang Hao.
I chased away all the etiquette instructors the Shi Family sent over. I played the role of a rebellious and eccentric child, resisting it all. Yun Li cried uncontrollably, gasping for breath as her hands wiped away her tears haphazardly. She couldn't bear to think about how desperate and suffocating his past must have been. She felt such deep sympathy for him that she wished she could bear his burdens.
Jiang Shiyu maintained his usual nonchalance as if these matters did not concern him at all. He still wore that carefree expression, seemingly unaffected by it all. Perhaps he had grown accustomed to it; those memories no longer hurt him.
Jiang Hao wanted to take me to America to study finance so that I could become his puppet in the company later on. Upon hearing this, Yun Li's hands tightened around the fabric of his shirt at his chest.
Jiang Shiyu comforted her by gently stroking her back. "Don't worry," he said. "If he wants to move against me, he has to get past my grandfather first." He had failed, but Ms. Shi had succeeded halfway.
As Jiang Shiyu wiped her tears again and saw the girl crying like a faucet overflowing with water, he stood up to grab some tissue for her.
Grandfather wants me to take over the Shi Family, so he is doing everything he can to drag me to England. You see, their relationship isn't great usually, but on this matter, they are surprisingly united. Jiang Shiyu even made a joke about it.
"What about you? Did they hit you?" Yun Li asked, her voice thick with a nasal tone, sounding weak and rough.
At that moment, Jiang Shiyu's expression turned serious. "With your throat in that condition, you shouldn't talk."
Yun Li sniffed, her nose completely blocked, but she felt some clear mucus trickling out. She turned away to grab a tissue, feeling embarrassed as she wiped her nose.
Yun Li tried to get off his lap, but Jiang Shiyu held her waist firmly, not letting her go.
With red-rimmed eyes and a crumpled tissue in hand, Yun Li gestured that she wanted to throw it away.
Jiang Shiyu took it from her and casually tossed it on the ground. "She kept me locked up for two days, cut off from the outside world. But I was well-fed and taken care of; don’t worry!" He gently stroked her cheek.
He smiled softly. "Still, my Hao Hao cares about me."
Yun Li wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned against him, pressing her whole body close. At that moment, her concern overshadowed everything else; she didn’t care about feeling shy anymore.
A wave of pain spread through her chest, causing tears to spill down her cheeks as she held him tightly, as if declaring that she would treat him well in the future, cherish him, and love him with all her heart.
Wearing a thin gauzy garment while Jiang Shiyu was in a black short-sleeve shirt, their body warmth intertwined as if they had merged into one.
Jiang Shiyu's strong hand rested on her lower back while his chin rested on her delicate shoulder. "From now on, I will treat you well, cherish you, love you, and protect you from harm. I want you by my side forever."
Her speech was still shaky from crying too hard; she hadn’t recovered yet. Her voice sounded both pitiful and somewhat amusing at the same time.
After saying this, she couldn’t help but let more tears fall.
"Okay now," he said with a shift in tone. "Why do you cry so much? Stop crying; I’ll make you something delicious."
Yun Li shook her head; all she wanted right now was to stay with him in silence.
