Yun Li woke up that morning and immediately tried to contact Jiang Shiyu. By ten o'clock, there was still no response from him.
Yun Li stared at her phone, her thoughts drifting away. What could he be doing? Why hadn’t he replied yet?
She lay on the sofa, resting her chin on the backrest, and opened the chat window to send a message to Jiang Shiyu. "Are you there? What are you up to?" She attached a cute emoji.
After a minute, she glanced at her phone again—still nothing. A wave of disappointment washed over her. This had never happened before.
When dinner time came, Yun Li was distracted, her eyes frequently darting toward her phone. Deng Ting and Yun Zheng exchanged glances; Yun Zheng served her some food and asked, "Hao Hao, what's wrong? Is the food not to your liking?"
Yun Li shook her head. Her father’s cooking was always delicious.
"Is it something with your studies then? If there's anything bothering you, you can talk to us. We might be able to find a solution together."
Yun Li shook her head again. "No, I'm just thinking about the Dunhuang Dance routine."
She quickly finished the remaining rice in her bowl, set down her chopsticks, and said, "Mom, Dad, I’m done eating. You take your time; I’ll head upstairs first."
Without waiting for a response, she dashed upstairs to Wu Fang's room. She changed into her dance outfit and did some warm-up exercises while still wondering what Jiang Shiyu could be doing.
After warming up, she laid out her mat and prepared for practice. As she took off running for a side flip, her mind was elsewhere. She lost focus and stumbled, landing with a thud on the mat, hitting her head against it.
She let out a muffled groan as stars danced in front of her eyes; her head felt fuzzy. After a few seconds of recovery, she stood up, relieved that she had laid out the mat—otherwise, she might have really hurt herself.
Taking a few deep breaths, she thought to herself: since he wasn’t reaching out, why not go find him instead?
During practice, she reminded herself not to be distracted; otherwise, all her efforts would be in vain.
With that resolve in mind, Yun Li pushed aside all other thoughts and focused on her training.
The next morning, she grabbed her bag and set off.
"Yun Li, you're heading to school so early? Aren't you going to stay at home a bit longer?" Yun Zheng asked.
Yun Li had already prepared her excuse. "Our assignment is a group project, and I promised her we would practice at school."
"Alright then!"
Yun Zheng and Deng Ting accompanied Yun Li to the airport, watching her pass through security.
"Old Yun, is your daughter in a relationship?"
Yun Zheng sighed, his face filled with worry. It certainly seemed that way. "I can't just sit back and let this happen. I need to go check on her."
As he spoke, Yun Zheng headed to buy a plane ticket.
Deng Ting stopped him. "Hey, hey, hey! What are you doing? She's almost ten; it's normal for her to have a crush. Besides, who doesn’t date in college?"
Yun Zheng was still uneasy. "Ten years old is still just a little girl; how is that normal? Wait a minute... what if she plans to get married right after graduation?"
"No, no, no! Absolutely not! I have to see for myself!"
Deng Ting was exasperated. "What are you thinking? Our daughter has her own plans. You shouldn't go; it would only cause trouble!"
Deng Ting firmly pulled Yun Zheng away from the airport.
On the plane, Yun Li looked at the chat window filled only with her own messages and felt a wave of sadness wash over her.
Still nothing.
An uneasy feeling crept into her heart.
Is he breaking up with me?
But he’s not that kind of person; he always sees things through to the end. Even if they were to break up, he would be clear about it—there wouldn’t be any ambiguity.
After landing, Yun Li turned off airplane mode and immediately checked WeChat.
Still nothing.
She first dropped her luggage off at the dormitory before heading to Jinghua Hangda.
On the way, she tried to contact Qin Nianzhe.
Qin Nianzhe wasn’t at school, and neither were the other two, so she had no idea if Jiang Shiyu was in the dormitory.
Yun Li entered Jinghua Hangda and headed to the boys' dormitory number three, looking for the dormitory supervisor. The supervisor checked the records and informed her that no one had come to the dormitory.
As Yun Li walked out of Jinghua Hangda, she encountered Fang Yang at the entrance, surrounded by several boys. Yun Li intended to pass by, but Fang Yang blocked her way.
