Jiang Shiyu suddenly turned her head and looked over, beckoning her to come closer. She reached out her hand toward Yun Li.
Yun Li walked over, and Jiang Shiyu wrapped her arm around Yun Li's shoulders, introducing her to Chi Zhi Yu. "This is my girlfriend, Yun Li."
Chi Zhi Yu's sharp phoenix eyes softened slightly as he looked at Yun Li, his tone now laced with a teasing contrast to before. "Such a girl is wasted on you."
As Jiang Shiyu kicked at him playfully, Chi Zhi Yu easily dodged to the side. This guy, Chi Zhi Yu, didn't have much else to say; knowing his name was enough. The two were in their usual banter mode.
Chi Zhi Yu smirked, "You really hold a grudge."
"Of course, I learned it from you," Jiang Shiyu replied jokingly.
Yun Li observed their interaction, feeling the easy and natural rapport between them; their relationship was anything but ordinary.
Everyone enjoyed drinks and barbecue, then moved on to an outdoor dance party where lively music echoed throughout the villa. Despite the festive atmosphere, everyone was dressed neatly; it was just a gathering of friends.
After everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, they entered the villa, where the third floor had a dedicated recreational area.
The girls sat on the sofa watching TV or playing poker, while the boys gathered around to play board games. With the heating on inside, everyone had taken off their jackets.
Yun Li, Shu Ran, Qin Nianzhe, and Yu Meng were playing cards together. Peng Qingyu and Xu Nian had gone off to play video games.
Jiang Shiyu and Cheng Zhou were engaged in a board game, competing fiercely with each other.
Chi Zhi Yu, who had been watching earlier, stepped out onto the balcony for a smoke, followed by Qin Nianchu.
A few minutes later, Qin Nianchu rushed back inside from the balcony in tears, grabbing her jacket.
Qin Nianzhe looked unfazed by it all and tossed out a card before diving back into his own troubles.
"I'll go check," Yun Li said as she set down her cards but was stopped by Qin Nianzhe.
"No need; this happens often. She'll adjust after a while," he reassured her.
Shu Ran organized her cards and asked curiously, "What's wrong with her?"
Qin Nianzhe felt that this was no longer a secret, and he had nothing to hide. Brother Chi was straightforward in his speech, completely rejecting her. Nianchu felt sad for a moment but soon continued to chase after him.
Should she really be doing this?
No one wanted to play with Qin Nianzhe, so he continued to play a pair of threes, while Yu Meng played a pair of fives. When it was Shu Ran's turn, she threw out a pair and wondered why that person was so arrogant. How could such a beautiful girl pursue him, and he still say hurtful things?
Qin Nianzhe sighed; Brother Chi had long since locked his heart away. Nianchu was just being stubborn and couldn't figure it out herself.
Yun Li still felt a bit uneasy, so she asked Xu Nian to take her place while she went outside to check things out.
Outside, in Zheng Yuan, Qin Nianchu was squatting by a small tree branch, poking at the loose soil with tears welling up in her eyes and her pupils slightly red.
Yun Li squatted down beside her and handed her a piece of paper. "Do you want to wipe your eyes?"
Qin Nianchu took it and wiped her eyes, saying, "I'm used to it already."
After accompanying Qin Nianchu for a while, Yun Li finally asked, "Nianchu, do you like Chi Zhi Yu?"
Qin Nianchu nodded, her gaze firm. "Yes, he is the first boy I have ever liked."
Yun Li understood her feelings; she had secretly cried like this before when she saw him with other girls or heard him agreeing to others' invitations. This feeling was almost the same as being rejected.
Qin Nianchu lowered her head, her voice muffled. "But what can I do about it? He won't like me."
Yun Li immediately replied, "How can you be sure he won't like you in the future? Over time, he might be moved by you."
Qin Nianchu forced a bitter smile and shook her head. "No, he won't be moved by anyone; the person who could move him is no longer here."
Yun Li's pupils trembled as she shrank back. Did that mean what she thought it meant?
Qin Nianchu looked at her and nodded. He and Jiang Shiyu shared the same goal of becoming aerospace engineers.
