As they exited the High-Speed Rail Station, Yun Li's phone rang.
"Dad, I'm out," she answered cheerfully. "Where are you?"
"I'll be there soon. Just wait at the main entrance."
"Okay," Yun Li said, hanging up. She turned to Jiang Shiyu and asked, "My dad is coming to pick me up. Are you taking a taxi back by yourself?"
Jiang Shiyu nodded, returning her suitcase to her and pulling out his phone to call a taxi. Noticing him focused on his screen, Yun Li bit her lip, feeling a bit conflicted before speaking up. "When we head back, we'll pass through Shanggu District. Do you want to come with us?"
Jiang Shiyu paused, his finger hovering over the screen as he looked deeply into her eyes. Feeling nervous, Yun Li quickly added, "If it’s inconvenient for you, it’s fine."
He canceled the taxi request with a casual smile. "I was actually worried about bothering you. Would it be okay?"
Yun Li shook her head. "No, it’s fine. It’s on the way anyway."
Just then, a deep male voice called out from a distance.
Yun Li's eyes lit up as she looked over. "Dad!"
Her smile widened, revealing her neat white teeth—a genuine smile filled with warmth, not the shy demeanor she often showed around him.
Yun Zheng glanced at Jiang Shiyu beside Yun Li and asked, "Is this your classmate?"
Yun Li chuckled playfully. "No, he’s a friend from Jinghua Hangda."
Upon hearing Jinghua Hangda, Yun Zheng's eyes brightened with admiration. "A high achiever!"
Jiang Shiyu politely introduced himself. "Uncle, I’m Jiang Shiyu." His voice was steady and formal, shedding the casual demeanor he usually carried.
"Dad, he lives in Shanggu District," Yun Li explained. "I thought since we’ll be passing by there, we could give him a ride."
"Sure!" Yun Zheng replied readily. "By the way, how do you two know each other?"
Before Jiang Shiyu could respond, Yun Li interrupted playfully, "Dad, let’s hurry back! I’m starving!"
It was the first time Jiang Shiyu had heard her sound so cute and needy; usually quiet and aloof during the day, she was gentle even when joking with friends.
In a good mood, Yun Zheng said to them both, "Alright then, let’s get in the car."
Yun Li still hadn’t completely let go of her worries. Once they got into the car, Yun Zheng began asking questions about everything.
Jiang Shiyu and Yun Zheng hit it off, chatting non-stop throughout the ride. Before long, they arrived at Fuxing Road, where old colonial villas stood in abundance, each more dazzling than the last. The trees were lush, their thick branches reaching upward, casting intricate shadows on the ground. This area was home to the wealthy, suggesting that Jiang Shiyu’s family was far from ordinary.
They stopped in front of an old villa on Fuxing Road. The large gate swung open to reveal an elderly gentleman standing at the entrance. He appeared robust and healthy, dressed simply yet exuding an air of nobility.
As Jiang Shiyu got out of the car, Yun Zheng told Yun Li to stay inside while he went to help Jiang Shiyu with her luggage. Yun Li obediently nodded as Jiang Shiyu grabbed her suitcase, and the old man approached them.
“A Yu, you must be exhausted from the high-speed rail,” he said with a warm smile, showing concern for her.
Jiang Shiyu shook her head and replied, “Grandpa, this is my friend’s dad. He gave me a ride home.”
The grandfather turned to Yun Zheng and extended his hand for a shake. “Thank you for bringing my granddaughter home.”
Yun Zheng recognized him and spoke with some excitement, “You are Mr. Jiang Zesheng!”
“You know me?” the old man asked.
“I’ve seen your interviews,” Yun Zheng replied.
“Is that so? Come in, let’s talk inside!” Grandpa Jiang said enthusiastically.
Jiang Shiyu sighed helplessly, “Grandpa, he needs to get back for dinner. Don’t keep him.”
“Oh! Then we’ll have to arrange another time,” Grandpa Jiang said with a hint of regret. He then turned to Jiang Shiyu and asked, “Where’s your friend?”
